Back when Olly Murs was the Season 6 runner-up on X Factor UK, I found his schtick dated and corny and wondered if he could be a viable pop star.

Well, look at him now! He’s really improved his performance skills and the R&Bish/Reggae thing he’s got going now is really working for Olly.

He’s in the US touring with with those UK sensations, One Direction. The Tonight Show is a solid gig. So good on him.

Watch Olly perform his single, “Heart Skips a Beat”.

I liked Olly on XFUK, and I like him now. He has a unique sound and I really hope he does well here. Simon set him up for success with the opening act position, so lets hope it works out.

BTW did everyone see Leno mispronounce his name? Olly must be fuming. As he should be.

I hope he could be back to the UK by the time the new season of the X-Factor starts. He’s great in the Xtra Factor!!

He’s going to be back for the live shows for Xtra Factor

First time I’ve ever watched or heard anything from him.  That song reminds me of something from the late 80′s/early 90′s and I like it.  I find his movements to be endearingly awkward but they work for him.  lol

His movements are pretty dorky, but the song isn’t bad. I’m sure opening for 1D will give him a nice boost here in the US

    How old is he?

  • Mateja Praznik

He is 28. He was 25 when he was on the X Factor – just a bit too old to qualify for the boys category, so he was with the overs.

Another example of a runner up being more famous than the winner that season. Where is Joe McElderry these days?

I’m surprised he was in the Overs Category. He seems so young and fresh

Thanks — I would have guessed more like 24 or 25

  • Mateja Praznik

Joe McElderry is working on his 4th album these days. It will be a new direction for him or so he says.

Olly actually started working on his 3rd album on May. I don’t know, maybe he will release it this fall, too?

The British Invasion is upon us….Simon is pretty smart with his choices.

I like the song it’s catchy he deserves to do well here. I don’t know if he will but it’s just as good as any other pop song, I love that beat. Though I must admit the part where he say’s skip skip skip skip skip…..seems awkward b/c there’s no pattern and feels drawn out too long. Anyway Olly just seems so joyful you wanna root for him.

I don’t think Olly should be fuming it’s an accident. Jay said it correct the first time I guess he just forgot. It happens if you lock things in your memory the wrong way it’s hard to break out of the habit of your own recollection as opposed to the correct way.

    Good Luck to him.

Olly Murs is a natural on stage and that song is so good. I hear the screaming girls. That’s a good sign. I hope he does well here, and I think he will! :)

I find him to be corny as hell… but for some reason, I like it. I didn’t enjoy it during Season 6, but I feel like he’s come into his own now.

    Awwww, he’s cute.

Olly has gotten better since his X Factor days.  He’s got a good personality, I really enjoyed watching him on Extra Factor last year.

Like the song – entertaining guy.

I don’t know this guy, but I was reading concert reviews about One Direction and over and over people said the opening act Olly Murs was really phenomenal. He wasn’t an opener at the show I saw.   He must be getting a lot of great exposure touring with 1D.

I just watched the video MJ posted and he’s very good.  Since I got coerced into another pair of One Direction tickets for Dec. 1st, I hope he is the opener.  He’s very entertaining.

What is his current UK single?  ”Heart Skips A Beat” isn’t the video that was played before all of the Westlife concerts I attended last month.  I did like Olly’s song that they played, but I never found out the name of it.  It was usually on right as we took our seats (after “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet”).

His biggest UK hit was “Dance With Me Tonight” and was his second single. It was massive in the UK. His third one was “Oh My Goodness” and it is at the end of its cycle now. Not sure about a fourth one.
The whole era has been extremely successful in the UK.

  • Mateja Praznik

His third UK single from second album was “Oh My Goodness”. There probably won’t be another one from this album.

First time watching/listening to him. I really like the song, and he’s adorkable!

Found it on youtube… “Oh My Goodness” is the one they played, thanks!

Sure his pants fit well but I don’t hear much to recommend in that song.
