Olly Murs released new music video for his debut US single!

Olly Murs is the latest X Factor UK alum to release music in the US. His debut single is “Heart Skips A Beat”. This song debuted at #1 in the UK last summer and featured Rizzle Kicks, English hip hop duo from Brighton. The US version features Chiddy Bang, alternative hip hop duo from Philadelphia.

So, was it worth it to replace Rizzle Kicks? I’m not sure. However, the new video features female soccer players, so maybe that will do the trick?

I’m not sure if the videos will work for you. I’m not from the US, so I had to get around the block to rip the US version.

The good news is that if Simon is smart, he’s gonna promote the hell out of all his X-Factor UK acts this year on X-Factor US, including Olly.

HUGE fan of this song, think it will do great in the US. But I don’t understand the new MV at all? :S

They got a new rapper for the US version. I guess to make it more local for US audiences.

Yeah I understand that, but it’s kinda bad lol

Yeah, I prefer the UK version. :P

This song is going to be big here in the US. I love it!

Oh Olly, how I love you <3 <3 Seriously, everything that I had hoped for Olly is all coming true, and well deserved, he has worked hard for his green. I wouldn't normally like this kind of tune, but it was so catchy, that I played the UK vid again. And that version is wayyyyy better than the US one, which the latter only makes him look corny, which can work in the UK, but not always in the US. I say promote the UK vid, since Olly looks more natural with the Rizzle Kicks (who are much better than Chiddy bang) and the UK vid fits the vibe of the song more.

I'm a little unsure a quirky dance hip hop tune like that, that is not as paint by numbers dance tune as some other pop songs in US, but I hope his brand of UK charm is a refreshing change to the US music atmosphere.

Good Luck Olly! I'm rooting for ya! :)

Really? You think so? God I hope so, because I am loving it the more I play it, too.

Well I do hope so! This song is so catchy. Simon should push this to radio.

When I sent the song to my friends, they enjoyed it and asked me about him. Good thing he’s opening for One Direction. He’ll definitely get a lot of promotion.

Wasn’t my favorite single but I have Ollys album and really like it….Hes got a great fun personality and wish him luck.  Is soccer supposed to be an Olympics reference?  Interesting how all those UK XF acts are suddenly launching in the US.  Rebecca Ferguson was lucky enough to get the iTunes single of the week – and I even saw a TV commercial the other day advertising her album at Target and she’s gotten some good TV performances on Live with Kelly and Today

I love this cheeky chappie!  Hope he makes it stateside.

I really really hope Olly gets featured on US X Factor. I fell in love with him on the UK version and was hoping he would come to the states eventually. Smart of him (and Simon) to build a UK base first though; now even if he initially bombs in the US (which I don’t think he will) he can continue to have a very successful career. If there was a way to hook Olly up with Bruno Mars, I think he’d be set in the US market.
If One Direction tickets weren’t $200, I would pop down to Chicago and see him in a heartbeat… He’s right up there with Leona as the best talent X Factor has produced. That being said, not feeling this Chiddy Bang fella. I want Rizzle Kicks back :(

I have no idea who these people are (and that includes the odd-looking guy in the red pants), but I’m liking it!

I love that all of these UK X-Factor acts are breaking it over here. It gives legitimacy to the X-Factor brand. :)

The XF UK acts are way cooler/hipper/trendier than the XF USA seems to be able to drum up. It’s like they have more flaws but more character.  Only Chris Rene from XF USA would seem to fit in this stable. And the songs & music vids these folks get to debut with are so much better produced. Finally, they seem to all get really well-supported launches. But given that the UK is only less than 1/10th(?) the population of the USA, I guess that’s not too hard.

I don’t know if this song is catchy enough to become a hit for an unknown artist. I did recently hear Olly’s “Dance With Me Tonight” on a UK Now CD and loved it. That one is a straight up Motown takeoff though. Not exactly hip…

The UK mv was way cooler. Song just average, but really liked the visuals in the original; they helped sell the song by infusing a bland song with a bit of an edge. Wonder what made them think the UK version wouldn’t work here?

Simon’s smart.  He’s got good song writers and young singers who can SING! and they’re fun to look at.  The British are coming!

I propose that Simon have a “British Invasion” concert tour with all his singers from the UK – Rebecca, Cher, Olly, et al.

It took me all day to realize that this thread wasn’t about the original version of this song.  The original song and video areso good, and didn’t need to be remade.  It’s not like Chiddy Bang are doing so well themselves, so why put them on the record. They can’t help Olly.

Of all the X Factor graduates, I like Olly Murs the most. I haven’t bought his album, but enjoy his songs when they come up on the radio. More than that, he’s got a very likeable personality, which sells the music in videos and he was great on the X Factor behind the scenes show last year.

Rebecca Ferguson is also doing really well: her album has been reasonably high on the I tunes charts over here for quite a while and was well received critically.

Not sure if they were on the same season with One Direction – I think Rebecca might have been, but Olly was earlier – but the show has had some good success stories from recent seasons, just not from the winners, oddly enough.

Please people, it’s football not soccer!

  • Mateja Praznik

Well yeah, but most visitors of this blog are American and their definition of football is different.

  • revcat

If we called soccer football in the USA we would have two completely different sports called football so soccer is soccer here and soccer is football elsewhere. Not exactly rocket science.

  • shell29

I also like the UK video better but the US version is OK too.  Olly’s cute, the song is cute and catchy IMO and I think with the right promo it could do pretty well stateside.   Good luck to him!

1D (3rd), Cher Lloyd (4th) and Rebecca Ferguson (2nd) are all from the same season.  Olly is from the year before that one.
