Talks between Paula Abdul and   the producers of the ABC TV show, Ugly Betty have collapsed. News of the talks had leaked online last week.

via LA Times:

ABC confirmed exclusively to Showtracker on Sunday that talks between Abdul and the network have fallen apart and she will not be guest-starring on “Ugly Betty,” as had been rumored.

The former “Idol” judge had been in talks to play a temp who befriends Becki Newton’s Amanda at Mode magazine. The episode had been scheduled to shoot in the coming week. That story leaked to the press early last week — much like Abdul’s “American Idol” negotiations — and it now seems that she may not be working with ABC at all.

ABC execs interviewed during last week’s Television Critics Association press tour seemed pretty eager to sign her on.   The execs were either posturing for the press, or perhaps ABC doesn’t think Paula is worth the money either.

TMZ reports that Paula didn’t want to do another ABC show, Dancing with the Stars, because she’s holding out for an offer from American Idol. Whether the parties are now willing to negotiate is unknown at this time…

Frankly, I’m sick of this. I hope they don’t take her back even if she begs for the original $5 mill. She’s just a liability at this point. Any “chemistry” on the judges panel is long gone as far as I’m concerned.

She should also fire her agent.

Pretty much how I feel at this point. Too much dramz.

I want her back on American Idol! :cry_wp: :glurps_tb:

I don’t want Paula to come back to American Idol. I’d like to see the direction of the show for season 9 sans Paula. I was really sick with the judges this past season….if it wasn’t for Adam, I probably wouldn’t have watched season 8.

I never valued Paula’s judges comments to the idols anyways (I don’t like Randy either) so her leaving is no loss to me.

I think they should hire Kellie Pickler as a judge. She’s funny, sweet and probably way more compassionate in real life than Pauler.

And while she doesn’t always sing on key, she’s arguable a way better vocalist than Paula.

Actually, PJ, that’s not a bad idea. I don’t mean the part about having Kellie as a permanent judge (I’d get sick of her pretty fast, I think.) But, it might be kind of cool if they used different past contestants as the fourth judge. JPL would be hilarious and snarky. Pickler would be kindly yet funny in her own Kellie-ish way. Bo Bice and Kim Locke would be serious but offer up some really constructive advise. It would be a kick to see some of the people I don’t think about much anymore back on the show in this position of “author-i-tay.”

Also, Paula and her agent over-estimated the American attention span. We’ve already moved on from “OMG!!! Paula’s not coming back???” to “I wonder if they’ll have the same dorky themes this year?”

    L.A. Times:

Two steps forward, two steps back: Turns out a role on “Ugly Betty” is not in Paula Abdul’s future.

Remind me what those “two steps forward” were? As far as I can recall, they’ve all been in the other direction lately.

Zsus, awesome idea. That makes a helluva lot more sense, actually. No doubt the kids who are trying to have actual music careers can’t afford the time to be a regular judge anyway. I wonder if it has even crossed the minds of TPTB. Prolly not. They are too focused on stars and not about what makes the show interesting.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzz………….

Paula called in all her favors and no one is following through. Two minutes of press and then it’s bye, bye Miss Paula and don’t call us we’ll call you. I really think she has some emotional issues that are too hot for others to handle.

  • hypnoticwhisper

Oh i love the idea of Kellie Pickler being a judge! She’s sweet, funny and charismatic.

I think they should get past contestants and be guest judges. Except for Corey Clark…. now that would be a real slap in the face

I just can’t find it in me to feel sorry for someone arguing over millions of dollars contracts. I’ve been over it since the first word about Paula leaving.

  • Susan M.

Um, Paula, Fire. New. Management. He’s gotten you “out of” HOW many multi-million dollar deals in the last two weeks? Don’t know what kind of percentage he’s going for, but you’d be better off with Bebe, from “Frasier.” Suck it up. Go back to the gazillion dollar cake job you love and we’ll all try to pretend this never happened.

  • madmike2276

Ok, memo to Paula, the public still loves you, but the negative press is eating away at that at an alarming rate. Ever since you got new management, we are hearing about all the deals that are NOT happening for you. These are not little deals either, these are career deals, and he/she/they and you, have been doing a lousy job lately. Time to get a manager who works for you who will get you the deals that will keep you employed, paid what you were worth, and protecting you from these stories. Your new management has failed on all 3 fronts.

First Gokey loses, then Bruno tanks, then she quits American Idol, now she’s persona non grata in Hollywood. It’s been a bad year for Paula.

It wasn’t Paula’s manager who twittered her out of a job. Who the hell is rude enough to answer a contract offer by twittering to her fans? Think maybe Idol took that as a big f**k you? You bet. They could have ignored Paula’s twitter but they jumped right on it. No one put Paula in this position but Paula. I’m sure reality has yet to set in that no matter how much ABC says they love her, they aren’t going to pay her what she was making on Idol, let alone Paula’s $10 million demand. All the managers in the world can’t put Paula’s career back together again.

Paula’s new agent is doing a bang-up job

  • jack5791

lol…did they not offer her enough money? She needs to fire her manager.

  • madmike2276

Lost in Idol, if you think for even one second that her manager did not have Paula’s post that twitter comments…I have a bridge to sell you.

  • lostinidol

Lost in Idol, if you think for even one second that her manager did not have Paula’s post that twitter comments’ ¦I have a bridge to sell you.

If you think for one second any manager tells Paula what to do then I understand how you came to have that bridge you are trying to dump off on me. Paula has been through several managers this year alone. That’s not the sign of someone who heeds the advice of others. Paula is also impulsive and the twittering queen. The mode and the message suggests Paula’s hand at work not her manager. Also, a manager has a career to protect like anyone else. His career success is determined by his ability to work with the network executives. Twittering this kind of response is highly unprofessional. He hurts his ability to negotiate for his other clients if he were to support this kind of rebuff. My bet, this was all Paula, but that probably didn’t stop Paula blaming him.
