Nigel Lythgoe Responds to Adam Lambert Rumors on Showbiz Tonight (VIDEO)

American Idol executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, appearing Monday on CNN Headline’s Showbiz Tonight responded to the rumor that Adam Lambert is being considered for a judges spot on the show.

The host asked Nigel if it were true that he was talking to Adam Lambert and Nigel replied:

“I can confirm with you that I have not been speaking to Adam Lambert, but there are going to be lots of names coming up now,” said Nigel. “It’s a bit like…when they were looking for judges for X Factor. Everybody’s name came up. It’s going to be the same with American Idol.”

“Everything’s still up in the air I have to say. Nothing is confirmed.”

Then Nigel quipped, “Hopefully, I’m going to push for Charlie Sheen and Jerry Lewis as judges on American Idol. I’m not sure how far I’ll get with that, but I think that would be fun!”

Adam Lambert told CapitolFM radio in the UK that he would jump at the chance to be an American Idol judge IF he were asked.

    This is true,  although Glamberts are even happier hearing his voice doesn’t matter if he’s singing or talking.

    It’s pretty sad that there are people out there who find joy in watching someone fail or not achieve his/her dreams. Why would it matter if Adam Lambert becomes a judge on Idol. If the people at Idol think he is a good fit then so be it. If he fails at it then you have a right to complain.

    With 20 years experience in the music/entertainment business, I think Adam would do great as a judge.

    I’m afraid to hope it isn’t true, but if it is true that he will be a judge, count me as one more who won’t watch, and THAT’S the honest-to-God truth.

     I think Adam would be a great judge, and he would be honest/real but kind. But I’m with you. I hope he doesn’t go for this gig and just keeps working on his music.

    Seeing and hearing him two nights a week would be more than I could handle. Don’t like him, don’t like seeing him, don’t like hearing him. Other things I can watch or do besides Idol.

    Was listening to tmz yesterday and they also mentioned Adam and others as possible judges. Harvey said he talked to Nigel. Talked about Freemantle changing their top people and wanting a new direction. They also said that Nigel doesn’t have a contract for next season. If that’s true, would he be involved in discussions on changes anyway?

    I do find it interesting how the “bubble” views this compared to the majority of media outlets.

    I am in London at the moment and tried (unsuccessfully) to buy Adam’s UK cd at several record stores. I also asked for directions to any record stores in the area and every single person who asked me “what” I was looking for said “Oh yeh, the guy on American Idol” or “the guy on US X Factor”, so they know who he is.

    Lot of good mediafor him this week including a huge picture on their entertainment page in the free Metro morning newspaper.

    I do – he’s a riot. Love his comments and he has a way with words. He was a breath of fresh air when he came aboard and he spoke the truth a few key times when Jennifer and Randy were piling on people who deserved to stay. He’s a bit of a loose cannon  and that’s always fun. Yes, he’s not tough enough, but there a very few Simon’s out there. (Thank-goodness.)

    I doubt I will ever forgive Jennifer for the way she treated Hayley but she’s a big attraction for the show, I think, so they may make it worth her while.

    I could see Carrie doing something like that if she wanted to settle down in one place, e.g. after she had a baby or something. Kelly just did duets so she’s into the idea. Who knows?

    Steven is pretty controversial at times.

    I think the producers put pressure on the judges too, which is why I like Steven. He will always go his own way in the end – a loose and uncontrollable cannon.

    No a fan of this at all personally, although I like him as an artist. He did a terrible job in Season 9. His band played too loudly for all of the contestants. Only Michael could be heard over them. Then Harry comes out to sing the next night and the band was so restrained. Go check it out.

    You think Jennifer was jealous of the young ones coming up.

    Has Steven been renewed for another season? I was hoping they’d get rid of Randy, but I haven’t heard any rumor so far. I think only JLo will be replaced.

    The S12 auditions have already started afaik, so when do the contestants start appearing before the judges? Won’t they need to announce the judges panel very soon?

     No. I just think he’s way overrated. I’m aware there are some who think the sun rises and sets in him, but though I will never understand it, I don’t ask why.  Kinda like broccoli. I love broccoli but not everyone does and I don’t need to know why they don’t.

    You are right,but I was alway’s nosey,I would want to know why they did’nt like broccoli,because I love it, also I was just thought maby he did something to you personally and that is why you dislike him. I could never  dislike someone I really did’nt know at all,even if I thought he was overated, that has nothing to do with him as a person and he really can’t help that,but that’s just me.
