From Mediaweek:

Fox stood well above the Tuesday competition, with a two-hour edition of American Idol averaging a hefty 28.84 million viewers and an 11.2 rating/27 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered the four competing networks combined. As for the initial 12 male performers, Jason Yeager and Leif Garrett look-alike Garrett Haley would we wise to start packing. The best of the bunch (and the early favorites): teen David Archuleta and 29-year old Michael Johns.

For a rough comparison, Season 6 final numbers for the Top 12 Guys: 29.5 million viewers and an 11.8 rating/30 share among adults 18-49.

Considering that overnights are usually lower than final ratings, looks like an increase is possible…

But I predict a major slide in ratings if the girls prove to be as boring a group as the boys were. The whole party line has been that we should please come back, there will be more backstory and better talent…and this is what they gave us.

There better be someone interesting in the girl’s group or people will give up much sooner than TPTB imagine.

It wasn’t all bad really. Although i do agree with bambambam, the girls better bring their A-game.

I don’t know bambambam. I’m already in love with Jason Castro and I plan to watch as long as he is on there.

On the other hand, thank God for TiVo. The 30 second skip came in handy last night.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m already in love with Jason Castro

Me too- He was the one that interested me the most. Lots of good singers, just not much that is interesting.

I seem to be in aggreance with everyone here.

Jason’s performance actually reminded me of Fantasia’s first semifinal performance (Something To Talk About). Offbeat, different, and completely enjoyable.
