Nicki Minaj Tweets: “Saves are Bullsh*t…Simply Be Gracious”

Uh oh. Nicki Minaj is pissed and her ire appears to be directed at newly eliminated American Idol contestant, Devin Velez. She took to twitter today to call him out.

Not sure why she’s telling him to be gracious, because she could have canned his butt before he even made it into the Top 20.

She also calls the save “bullshit” and insists that if she could not save her favorite, Curtis Finch Jr, nobody is gettin’ saved.  Could Nicki simply refuse to save ANYBODY this year? Hm. (Eta: Nicki told a reporter last night that she wants an all-female Top 5, making it likely she’s save a girl to achieve that. But sorry boys. You’re screwed.)

UPDATE:  Devin responded via twitter, but deleted it later

I’m guessing that Devin is throwing some shade on Nicki in his post Idol interviews, and it has gotten back to her. Indeed, in this interview, he calls her out for the way she treated the boys after their disastrous trio Wednesday night.

MARIAH told Devin that NOT SAVING HIM WAS THE WRONG DECISION! No wonder Nicki is pissed! Also, Nicki made it clear to this reporter that she only plans on saving a girl. She wants an all-female top 5. Devin snarked and called her “sexist.”

ETA:  From Devin’s conference call with reporters today:

Was he pointing fingers at Lazaro after the disastrous trio performance? Did Nicki over react a little bit? “Looking back at the video, I know where Nicki was coming from. I agree with the first half of her critique, when she said that it felt like it was Hollywood week, that it was a joke, that stuff like that should not happen, that she was going to pretend that she didn’t hear it. When she went crazy–when she was like ‘get off the stage, blah blah blah’ and it’s just like ‘whoa Miss Minaj, I need you to calm down please.’ We’re still human, we still have feelings. She doesn’t care sometimes. It’s all good, we still love Nicki. Hearing that, it still is a little cutting while on stage. But the way my mother raised me was when someone was saying bad things about you when they’re not true? Guess what, they’re not talking about you. When Nicki Minaj was saying that we were forgetting our lyrics and we were off-pitch–without pointing fingers–I wasn’t off pitch, nor did I forget my lyrics, therefore I didn’t take that to offence. But it still sucks to be up there, seeing your team get knocked down that hard. But what happened happened. We’re growing and I think it was a great wake up call. I don’t think that’s going to happen again on the show.”

Does Devin think Nicki’s tough critiquing this week was the result of Jimmy complaining that the judges were too soft? “Nicki Minaj is one of those characters where she has multiple personalities–she’s her own person. And it’s weird, because you never know what you’re going to get with Nicki Minaj. She could have been upset because the night before she was wearing the same colored dress as Mariah, or that she was on time. We never know. But I know that I love her as a judge…It’s when she gets into the exaggerative speaking, where it’s just like, ‘Ah, take it easy!’ You don’t wanna hurt somebody else’s feelings.  But yeah, she is who she is.”

What’s the drama for “Producers” !> keep doing it & the ratings will keep hunting you ..

  • jms

The drama this series has made my IQ drop by a million points and it is now near -900,000. UGGGGGH.

  • jms

Also, for some reason, I took Nicki’s comment about nobody being saved to be directed toward the males. She said the girls are just too good and that Curtis was the best MALE voice this season, which leads me to believe she meant that the save will be reserved for a female.

  • http://twitter.com/bluinjewin Landon Cox

    Spill that t Nicki

  • vdawg

Nicki making everthing about her wow. She needs to just leave now. They need to pay her off and send her on her way now. There will not be a save this year.

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

Lol. Well…Nicki certainly is keeping my interest in the show!

As for Devin, you could’ve just departed graciously and cordially!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

Coming from the same person that made the comment about basically that she wants all the girls top 5 so the competition could start

  • Kim

Do we really still think the judges decide the save?? lol

  • H.A.

OMFG. lol. Nicki belongs on X-Factor or The Voice. She’s too much for Idol and the Idol demo. They can’t and won’t handle her. She brings the entertainment but honestly Idol isn’t right for her.

  • http://twitter.com/TarheelShari Sharon S.

I’m sorry, I can’t stand this woman. Can she EVER just let something go? Is it really necessary to go on an overly defensive Twitter rant every frigging time someone says something she doesn’t like? She’s a multi-millionaire and a major star; Devin was just trying to get a toehold into the industry she currently has by the tail. Nicki, just be the bigger person and let.it.the.fuck.go. Just once. Please.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1638805698 Jason Scott

I adore Nicki so much. I agree with her Devin needs to be thankful they even put him through at all. He should stop talking.

  • dabney c

    Nicki belongs on Jerry Springer.

  • KrisKD

I really do not like her. Why is she wasting her time blasting a contestant on twitter? She is the star. She is the one with all the power. He is just a young man who will probably never do anything greater than AI.

  • bridgette12

Oh God Nicki, just stop. It ain’t about you, it’s about the contestants. Act like a professional and don’t get pissed about what an eliminated contestant said about you.

  • dabney c

lol, right. And do we really still think the judges put them through to the voting rounds? ha.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

Nicki sounds like she believes it’s really the judges’ decision to make and that the producers don’t get the final say. Please tell me she’s not that naive by now.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1638805698 Jason Scott

Well, Devin should let it go. Just saying.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Well, in all fairness it’s a live results show. If she says no and they save someone anyway, the shenanigans would be exposed.

  • brenoga

Actually, i got the feeling she was talking about not saving any more MALE contestants – the way she emphasized that curtis was the best MALE voice of the competition.

  • HopeForMusic

Some may find Nicki entertaining, but personally, if I want that kind of entertainment, I could just hang around the grade school playground. There is seriously something missing, or at least scrambled in her brain.

  • EB

    Ring ring, pot calling kettle.
Least gracious and humble celebrity out there telling a disappointed 18 year old kid (who was, among others, absolutely given the short end of the stick) to be gracious? What a laugh.

You get what you give, and being so disrespectful to these guys was going to catch up to her sooner or later.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I’m so over this woman. Maybe if I thought her schtick was funny I could be more forgiving of her shenanigans and utter lack of professionalism. But I don’t, so I can’t.

  • Brian

Interesting if she is saying she won’t use the save on anyone…was thinking it might be used on Amber or something next week.

  • Xentusk

Nicki is the lit stick of dynamite that Idol forgot to let go of before it blew :P

  • nncw

Nicki is like the Joan RIvers of AI. I don’t know whether she is serious or not, I hope not.

  • Angello Flyer

I can’t stand Nicki but I don’t think it was smart for Devin to piss of the judge who is going to decide your fate in the competition.

  • EB

I think this should be the last straw that shows people how wrong she is for this show, even if/when she can have a good critique here and there.

I don’t know that it matters at all if she is going to lash out at a contestant and try to beat them down if they dare cross her majesty. It is embarrassing, really.

  • Brian

Well, if Randy tries to say “we are unanimous and we are going to save Burnell (or Amber, whoever)” and she says “No, it is not unanimous, I disagree” it’s not like the show could really override her decision without some serious backlash. So ultimately, she can control it somewhat.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

And blocking the save from being used at all and calling it bs because she didn’t get her way with Curtis? Immature.

  • waynestrong

    Nicki, always keepin’ it trashy….

  • HopeForMusic

Yeah, it maybe wasn’t the smartest, but sometimes just to maintain some self-respect, you have to do what you feel is right. Devin thought she had gone too far,and said so. Smart or not, I’ll bet he’s still glad he did.

  • yclept

She is probably the only one in America who believed Curtis should even be considered for a save. Using it on the first eliminated contestant when the tour is already guaranteed would be a complete waste. Nicki is, frankly, one of the worst judges ever – she is the opposite of the comatose Brittany Spears, and that is not really a good thing. Idol needs to stop pandering to any specific demographic – sure, there are probably Nicki fans who never watched Idol before who are tuning in this year – but not so many of them that it makes a difference. Get good, buzzworthy contestants with a good judges panel and people will watch – not like they did a decade ago, but they will watch. Nicki should not be brought back next year.

  • EvenMoreron

Ok, can we clear up when the last week to use the save is? It has to be used before Top 5, no? I mean, let’s just say Lazaro gets voted off next week, and Burnell at Top 6, then the save wouldn’t be used at all if Nicki doesn’t wanna waste it on a guy. Doesn’t that leave an extra week?

  • EB

The safe choice would be not to call her out, but I’m glad he wasn’t afraid to and isn’t afraid of Queen of Entitlement Minaj. No one should have to kowtow to her snarky self like she thinks they should. I don’t mind at all if these contestants want to defend themselves, they have that right, especially when Nicki has been nasty and there is just cause for them to say something.

  • jms

I’m not really picking sides here, there was some truth to what Nicki was saying, but she presented it horribly to make the disappointed and somewhat robbed Devin look horrible. On the other hand, Devin would have been better off letting it go graciously rather than throwing jabs at Nicki in the first place.

I really like Nicki when she’s on point. But when she’s off, it’s like “OMG please stop”.

  • yclept

It likely won’t hurt Devin’s career, if there is one to come, one way or another.

  • dabney c

Yes, that’s what I’ve been posting in another thread here. The save has to be used before top 5, so if they’re going to save someone, it will have to be in the next 2 weeks – whether it’s a guy or a girl who is kicked off. If they don’t save anyone, then there’s one episode less in the schedule. So, either FOX airs a rerun of a couple of sitcoms to fill the time-slot, or they use the save and stretch the Idol season out to its scheduled maximum.
    .
If Lazaro doesn’t get voted off next week, he may end up having to be saved in top 6 (if he gets voted off that week). Hilarious and sad, no?

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

Wait a minute here. Isn’t there some inconsistency in this argument? If, according to Nicki, the save is bullshit and the competition is about pleasing the fans, then why is she so pissed off that they didn’t use the save for Curtis and is, therefore, intent on blocking its use for any other … male contestant? Shouldn’t she just be “resigned” to the fact that her personal favorite just did not appeal to the audience?

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Devin should be gracious. He doesn’t have the star power to make it in the industry anyways. The votes showed that.

  • Kitwana

Nicki is right about being gracious.

  • dabney c

I couldn’t agree more. Nicki DOES make me laugh sometimes. She can be very funny, and I live that kind of irreverent, bizarre humour. BUT, she’s also horribly inappropriate and sometimes unprofessional, and often bratty. As Dr. Phil would say – she’s a “right fighter” … always having to be right, always having to have the last word.

I mean, getting into it with Devin on twitter??? No, no, no, Nicki. Let the boy lick his wounds, even if he says something unfavourable about you in an interview. If you’re going to skewer these guys without mercy, give their egos a little room to fight back. Jeez.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

Well, I can’t wait to hear about Curtis opening on Nicki’s next tour.

  • EB

    Heh heh heh

  • harvestmoon

I can’t believe how quickly Nicki went from being my favorite new judge to being my least favorite.

  • Mateja Praznik

They don’t have to save anyone. They can have one non-elimination week.

  • Brian

Wouldn’t you have to guess, that if the save has to be used in the next two weeks, that it would be used if anyone other than Lazaro gets eliminated?

  • dabney c

Good point. A boring way to go with an extra week to fill, but they can do that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

Oh wow. I know its Nicki Minaj and she’s as unfiltered as it comes but I have issues with this. She’s making it clear that since she couldn’t save Curtis no other boy is getting saved. That seems very immature to me. That’s like when little kids play baseball and the one that looses takes the bat with him so the others can’t play.

When Lazaro and Burnell end up in last place Ryan should just skip the “sing for your life” part and have them sing their goodbye song then. No wonder Mariah was so sure that it wasn’t going to be unanimous. If I was in Lazaro’s or Burnell’s shoes I wonder if I would want to continue in the competition at this point.

Lastly, I don’t understand why Devin’s comments made her so mad. I don’t think he said anything that would warrant her response. She’s being immature and unprofessional.

  • chris99x

It sounds like she’s saying she won’t use it on any of the BOYS, because Curtis was (in her opinion) the best, so it wouldn’t make sense to save any of the other boys, either. I’m sure she’d use it on a girl.

  • czt

Idol appeals mostly to conservative, middle class americans. While Nikki has had a few good points/comments, overall, her trashy ness has and is turning off much of the viewing audience. Combine that with boring comments from Mariah, you easily have a big reason for viewer drop off. Dump Nikki now and bring back Paula for the rest of the season. Between the drama of a switch in the judging panel, and coming to the best singers of the season, watch ratings soar.

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

Omg! I just watched Devin’s interview, and I had no idea how much of a queen he is–throwing all of that ‘snarky’ shade and whatnot!

Why do I feel compelled to shout “read her, hunty!” *Snaps In A Zig Zag Formatin”

Anywho, this is unfortunate, because Devin was many favorite of the males. Hmmm…

  • EB

Agreed, and I can’t honesty see that anyone out there is truly offended by what he said, even if they feel he would have been better not to say it, except Nicki apparently.

  • cherelann

When the season first started I really liked Nicki even though I didn’t care for her music. Now I see her as an insecure troublemaker. She was given a perfect platform to make new fans and she blew it. An entourage takes lots of money to support and I don’t think she’ll be making the money to take care of them in 5 years…

  • Mateja Praznik

Paula? Isn’t the show boring enough?

  • dabney c

Yeah. If Lazaro gets voted off next week in top 7, they’ll let him go, and use the save on whoever gets booted in top 6 week. But if Lazaro doesn’t get eliminated in top 7, they’ll have to save whoever DOES get voted off because if they don’t, they’ll need to use it in top 6 week, and if it happens to be Lazaro voted off that week, he’ll be the one saved by default. UNLESS they implement a non-elimination week in Top 5, as Mateja suggested – to keep the total number of shows in line with the FOX calendar. [Yes, I’m thinking about this issue way too much, lol)

  • EB

The save is bullshit to Nicki because they didn’t use it on who SHE wanted to, therefore any time something does not go her way, it is BS and never worth anything again.

Nicki has the maturity of a 5 year old. It could be getting back at Mariah too because I think she was the hold-out on saving Curtis… she wanted to save Devin, Nicki wasn’t having it.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

They should have just ditched the save, given that they only started with 10 people instead of the usual 12/13. It feels completely different to save someone at 8th place if 5 people have already been eliminated than it does if only 2 are gone.

  • http://www.facebook.com/alissa.souk Alissa Souk

she’s such a bully. I hope she gets fired soon.

  • JosieX

If anyone looks at the way Devin has behaved and the way Nicki has behaved, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that it’s not the 18 year old that still needs to grow up.

I am done with Nicki. I had started to warm up to her during Hollywood, but that was short-lived. When she tore into those three boys when it was OBVIOUS that Devin tried to cover for Lazaro’s screw up, then sat there and laughed when they were stung into trying to defend themselves, I was done. Then to see her sitting there with the pouting b-face while Devin sang his last song…she just disgusts me now.

  • Ivan

You all do realize that she doesn’t actually care that much? She’s a smart girl. She’s creating controversy to get the show attention.

  • Myrrna

This season could really end up hurting Nicki’s career. She can’t sing so looking like a petulant brat could just encourage the people who made her (like a pre-fab house) to think she is too much trouble.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

At first I liked Nicki, but now I can’t stand her. She’s been so rude and nasty these past two/three weeks. Idol made a huge mistake hiring her.

  • taylor

“Shouldn’t she just be “resigned” to the fact that her personal favorite just did not appeal to the audience?”

That would be the logical thought process for a mature adult, which Nicki is not capable of.
Didn’t you know, this whole show is about her! Minaj should be able to say whatever pops in her head, act however she wants to act, show up late for auditions and live shows and always get her way about everything!

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

It’s interesting to see that even Ellen Degeneres tweeted that she wished the judges had used to save last night.

  • MV007

Is this serious? You do know she’s a rapper right? So her singing ability means absolutely nothing. And in her genre of music, her attitude is accepted and borderline encouraged. If Chris Brown doesn’t have a problem getting his music out there then Nicki Minaj and her petulance won’t either. And oh yea, she wasn’t made. She was discovered and Lil Wayne and Co. just let her do her thing and people bought it.

  • Guest

Singing, rapping, incessant autotuning… what is the difference these days, right?

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

If anything was going to hurt her career, it would be losing her “cred” by being on AI in the first place.

  • EB

Now I wish she was a judge again.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

While I don’t necessarily agree with the idea that her “petulance” will hurt her career, I don’t think that Nicki has a long career ahead of her. She’s too gimmicky and her electropop rap doesn’t stand the test of time. She has maybe 1 or 2 more successful records and that’s it. Even male rappers struggle with staying relevant after a few records. It’s even harder for female rappers, particularly those rapping on electropop tracks.

  • tigervixxxen

First of all the save WiLL be used unless Nigel is planning to have them all tap dance for a week. Second, I’m under no delusion that the judges decide who will and won’t get saved nor do they decide who makes it through to the top 20 or whatever.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

Mariah Carey tweeted this last night: “Ugh. In tears. Devin is a potential superstar, I can’t handle it.”

  • MV007

Thats a different argument though. And we could argue all day over that.

  • Mateja Praznik

    LOL, potential superstar.

  • hayes

Or whoever thought of hiring her in the first place. I said during the begining that hiring her was a mistake, and nothing she’s ever done or said on the show had made me think otherwise.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

Mariah could use some of her $18 million paycheck and underwrite Devin’s first album if she’s so inclined.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

Well no one contests that he has the vocal chops. He’s only 18 so I’m sure anything else that he might be lacking in terms of stage presence could be developed. I would think that a star like Mariah can recognize talent. If I were Devin I would try to release an album in Spanish, become huge in Latin America and then crossover to USA. I truly believe he has a shot if he does this.

  • vdawg

    As did Carrie :Underwood

  • czt

I think a lot of people really liked Paula. At least there would be some type of chemistry between the judges. It is ridiculous now how Mariah and Nikki turn their backs toward each other and roll their eyes when the other is talking.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

She needs to get off her high horse and realize that the world doesn’t revolve around her and that her opinion isn’t always right. Plus talking crap about contestants on TWITTER, a freaking social network, makes her look more unprofessional than she already is.

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

I’m assuming there were more than those 2 question on the conference call but I guess 2 men in black suits could have come in and dragged him out lol

  • alonzo7

I have now started muting Nicki-she is so biased and blatant about it. I want a girl to win but feel the guys should have an equal opportunity-I don’t think I’ve ever seen a judge as harsh as her when she ordered the boys of the stage-just not appropriate.

  • g122y

There is no issue on not saving Devin. He is always in the bottom 3,therefore a save will just a waste if the judges use it for him..

  • LeoCS

LOL. She actually could use him as backup singer. From what I’ve seen they do all the singing parts on her show.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Li-Wright/100001622678180 Li Wright

Does this mean Nicki is cutting her throat and won’t be back next season? I don’t think she gives a fig. But she’s right. The saves are BS. If you don’t get the votes, you don’t get the votes, and the save is a gimmick. It’s not going to get that person to the #1 or #2 spot; it’s not going to make them a star. I’m with Nicki on this.

  • Latin2

I think Nicki wanted pay back for one of the judges not saving Curtis. She looked kinda gleeful the night the judges were discussing saving Devin. I think Devin was one of the other judge favorite and she wanted to make a ‘point’ that if her fav male Curtis did not get saved by a certian judge…then why should she save Devin.

  • g122y

oh..i will watch that show if she will cast there

  • LeoCS

I thought everyone everyone loved Nicki and she was the new cool fresh thing” around the town. LOL

This is a TV show. These kids know how this show works. I never liked the sing for your life part and I never liked the Save. If you lose, you lose. Go on and get ready for the tour and be glad you made it to the top 10.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Li-Wright/100001622678180 Li Wright

Nah, it just means she won’t be back next year as a judge. But it won’t hurt her career. She’s probably got a talk show in development.

  • g122y

if people hates nicki, then Carrie is a great replacement for her. I want carrie to be a judge of American Idol

    Devin just tweeted this:

    Devin Velez

“That moment when an adult stoops down to the 3rd grade level… LOL grow up Hun, I’ve got songs to write. :) #movingforward”

…Oh, oh dear. This is not pretty. STAHP GUYS. UGH.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Li-Wright/100001622678180 Li Wright

    Let’s revisit Devin’s career in 5 years, because I don’t think he’s a “superstar”. At most, he’s a boy band singer.

  • Latin2

    LOL…lol…lol

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

Lol. The hilarious imagery of Candice, Kree, Lazaro and Co donning glittery tuxes and black canes just played in my mind.

lol…that was a good one. XD

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

Lol! I’d love to see that. Maybe Curtis is one of the Ken Barbs.

  • EB

    He’s right, though! ;PPP

But yes, this will get ugly if/when Nicki responds.

  • H.A.

LOL. He’s can’t be serious right? His bitchiness is finally showing. Dude let it go.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jennifer.woolley.338 Jennifer Woolley

The save got Jessica Sanchez to the #2 spot.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

Normally I would say “stop it guys” but I put myself in his shoes and really after what she said I doubt I could refrain myself from responding. Moreover I think he’s factually correct. Nicki should be the adult in this thing. Not only the adult but also the “star”, the person who shouldn’t give a damn about what an 18 year old aspiring singer should have to say. So yeah I agree with Devin.

  • EB

I do believe she does but in the case that you present, Nicki is smart? No. More manipulative and desperate than we thought? Yes.

  • Latin2

Too bad she doesn’t have one gracious bone in her body…lol

She should practice what she preaches.

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

Coulda just let it go. Now he’s fixing to suffer the unrelenting wrath of an army of plastic, glitter, and the color pink!

Devin Velez/Nicki Minaj catfight with Nicki Minaj rap verses shading Devin, and Devin’s response song about how Nicki is an…. hija de puta or something. Beefin’ with Lil Kim, Mariah, and now Devin.

That’s not the point though. Devin is a nobody and will likely stay that way. Some of these Idols think just by being on this show they are going to be famous. No. STFU and do your thing and learn from your experience. He can do all the writing he wants but it doesn’t mean jack. #1 rule. Keep your head down when your a nobody and build relationships/network in the business.

Now this is getting really confusing.

Devin’s fan page tweeted this and mentioned Nicki:

    Devin Velez Fan Page @DevinTrueFans
@DevinAI12 @nickiminaj Best Thing You Can Do Is Be Your Self Dont Change , We Love You For “You” <3 #booyah

Then Devin responded to Nicki (I don't know if he thought the original tweet had come from Nicki since she was mentioned in it or if he made a mistake and meant to tweet this to his fan page):

    Devin Velez ? @DevinAI12
@NICKIMINAJ thanks for the kind words, I know you're a firm believer in being true to yourself, I will continue to be me NO MATTER WHAT. :)

  • Larc

Nicki is the adult here. She should have the maturity to act the part.

  • EB

I don’t mean this to sound snippy, but I honestly don’t care in this scenario. If he was the aggressor here, I might, but he isn’t. Nicki is the one that should STFU and be the bigger person, being the adult, the judge, an authority figure so to speak on the show. But oh no, he crossed her by merely giving his feelings about what she said to him, a teenager and like you say, a nobody, crossed her and she goes berserk. That reflects poorly on her, not him. It shows how thin-skinned and weak she is, and to show power of some kind she attacks him. It’s just stupid.

I have to side with Devin. He is fully allowed to state how he feels in response to her nastiness toward him specifically.

  • LA944

Why shouldn’t Devin respond? He really didn’t say anything that bad about her in the first place. She can dish it out all over the place but can’t take it. I don’t think too many people will think he is being ungrateful considering the stuff coming out of Nikki’s mouth.

And if it’s publicity TPTB are seeking–well–Devin is getting some too–lol

  • Latin2

I’m glad someone told Nicki off and to act her age…lol #TruthTea

  • HermeticallySealed

    I like Nicki. . . as a judge. Doesn’t mean I think she’s a wonderful person or a great artist.

  • EB

Absolutely. We will see if she can choose to restrain herself now after this latest development, but I doubt it.

  • Mateja Praznik

Well, if there is no chemistry between Nicki and Mariah, maybe the solution would be to dump Mariah and her lapdog Randy? She is more expensive and completely useless.

  • H.A.

Nick is getting paid millions of dollars. This is what Idol/Fox wanted. Now they got it. Will it help the show? The jury is out but no matter what happens Nicki will still be a multi millionare with a career. Devon is not in the position to engage with her no matter if he’s right. He doesn’t even have a career to start the smack down with another artist. I hope all those people who are preaching Amen to Devin understand it’s a different game behind the music industry scene. People are watching him.

  • jms

Nicki and Devin should just hug it out and collaborate.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

LOL, this has gotten hilarious. Hey Fox (or exec. Mike Darnell), sure you don’t like to promote this feud for ratings too? C’mon, I know you wanna ;)

Or maybe you finally realized nobody cares anymore…

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

I agree. And I fear that most people, including Devin, don’t realize that this spoils system of sorts exists. :/

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I wouldn’t have done that, but he’s right.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Well, in order to be manipulative, you kinda have to have a bit of smarts on ya ;)

  • Latin2

If you are going out…you might as well go out with a bang. How many people are gonna remember contestant number 8 in the lowest watched Idol season.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Here’s the thing. I think Devin did deserve the save over Curtis (and I wasn’t a fan of Devin’s at all). I don’t know what she’s hearing, but she has the right to deny him the save. My problem is her reasoning. If you’re truly singing for your life, you should be judged on that performance. She flat out admitted it didn’t matter how well he did. She got denied having Curtis saved so she was going to sabotage the rest of them. I don’t blame Devin for responding.

eta: Full disclosure, I thought Curtis was overrated as well. Wasn’t pulling for either of them, but I really thought Devin brought the emotion to it in his attempt to sing for his life. He shouldn’t have been denied simply because Nicky wanted to take her Barbies back because she didn’t get her way.

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

It’s sorta smart, if he comes out with an album I wouldn’t have bought it, but just because of that tweet I’ll buy it now lol

  • http://twitter.com/ladymctech ladymctech

I was just going to post the samet thing about a change in the judging panel. If Nigel loves drama so much, this would be a move right up his alley. And Paula might be the answer under the circumstances.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

Pretty sure Nicki is the bonafied queen. Nah I take that back, she’s just trash.

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

I’m not against playing this up, but if they do the show will be further from The Voice and closer to Jersey Shores lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

All those things you mention explain why Nicki shouldn’t engage with him. Like you said he’s just a kid who doesnt even have a career. From feuding with Lil Kim, she moved on to Mariah, and now Devin? It doesn’t speak too well of her. It’s almost like celebrities won’t engage with her so she now has to start feuding with aspiring celebrities without careers. This just makes her look really bad. When you’re a celebrity you don’t respond to someone who isn’t on your same level.

  • durbesque

I agree with you 100+%. It’s ludicrous to think that these entertainers/judges have any decision-making power…ludicrous!

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw
  • sjames08

I wouldn’t have saved Devin either. He’s done some amazing vocals, but his recent performances were lacklustre. I do see the inappropriateness when Nicki revealed she wouldn’t agree to use the Save for any other boys. But I think she would if Burnell gets the boot. Other than the Curtis/Boys thing, I don’t see anything else wrong about her tweets. She’s right for the most part.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

This is why the Voice appeals to me over Idol at this point. It is more of a feel good show. I know, there’s been some good-natured barbs between the coaches. I don’t even think Xtina’s dislike of Tony Lucca ever reached this level. Heck, even with Simon it wasn’t personal. Even people he trashed said he was nice off stage. He also showed up on time. Nicky is unprofessional and petty in every way. Do not like.

  • CB40

I actually agree with Nicki here. Am I the only one?

  • H.A.

Who the flack cares about Nicki!!!. Think about Devin. He’s the one that has to build a career and relationships. How many contestants wanted to tell Simon to go F himself but back than contestant didn’t come on the show thinking they were entitled to automatic superstardom.

LOL grow up Hun, I’ve got songs to write. :) #movingforward”

Sounds like someone who has labels breaking down the door for him. Yeah right!!

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

That’s kind of major, though. Why make him jump through hoops when he had no chance? Give him the benefit of the singing for his life or call it a farewell performance. She had bitch face during the entire performance and didn’t even TRY to act like she was considering the save. Her comments prove that. Seems a bit childish and she has the power. He’s just an 18 year old in a pressure cooker.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1638805698 Jason Scott

No, you’re not the only one. I completely agree with her on this.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Yeah, we’ll see if Nicky has the staying power of Mariah. I’m not a huge Mariah fan, but she deserves what she has.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

I don’t have a problem with what she’s saying. My problem with her is that she’s going to Twitter to talk crap. She did the same thing with Angie.

  • HKfan

I agree with this. I think Mariah wanted Devin saved, no way was Nicki going to side with her.

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

Same. I think it’s funny how no one has mentioned the snarky dress comments Devin made, which did not come off as playful or wry.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

He said that both Mariah and Randy told him to contact them once the show is over. If he wants to start out by recording a Spanish album he will have plenty of producers willing to work with him. He’ll be fine. Building a relationship with Nicki isn’t going to do shit for him and the route he wants to go anyways.

At the end of day he’s just an 18 year old kid. He’s reacting like any kid his age would react under the circumstances. Nicki on the contrary isn’t acting like you would expect a 30 year old woman and established entertainer to act. I can’t possibly look at this situation and see Devin in the wrong.

  • taylor

Wait, what did she say to Angie?

  • sjames08

What? So many people on here made fun of the judges last year because they were trying to look like they were talking about saving a contestant, when in reality, it was already (probably) set by the producers. If Nicki already made up her mind, why would she pretend? She made it clear right up at the start that she was going to be as real as she is. So idk what everyone on here is expecting from her. A lot of people are childish in this world. She just happens to be famous. Is it commendable? No. But people deal with situations differently. Some resorts to Twitter, some don’t. Trust me, people do it all the time on social media.

  • Face

    yawn… teacup, storm, in, a…

  • elliegrll

Not sure why she’s telling him to be gracious, because she could have canned his butt before he even made it into the Top 20.

That’s why she is telling him to be grateful. His comments on Wednesday were bi***y, and stupid coming from someone who hasn’t achieved anything except get cast on a reality show. His job was to get people to vote for him, and he failed.

  • elliegrll

It was the dress comments, as well as the comments about Nicki being mad that she arrived on time.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

The reporter is to blame as well. She was instigating it. That was uncalled for when her and Devin were picking apart Nicki’s appearance.

  • elliegrll

Singing for their life is making them jump through hoops. Anyone who has had to do it in the first two or three weeks of the finals knew perfectly well that they wouldn’t be saved.

  • sjames08

And it’s not like Nicki gave him bad critiques on his solo performance. She was all for it.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

If it’s live, any of them can say what they want and the producers can’t say crap about it unless they admit to shenanigans. She could have tried to judge his performance. She didn’t and admitted it. That’s all.

  • HKfan

I really liked Nicki at the beginning, but I go off her more each week.. Its all about her, she sits there chewing gum, looking bored most of the time, especially when people she doesn’t like are performing. She makes no secret of the fact she doesn’t like them, she makes it all so personable. I don’t like the accents, or the weird name calling, the inappropriate comments, and the comments that just don’t make any sense. Sometimes I need a translator to understand what she’s saying. So she sees herself as having the power, its down to her if the save is used now, and it was her, fighting for them as to who made the finals….(as in , if I didn’t want you in the top then you wouldn’t be there)…..

  • LeoCS

Truth be told, Devin entertained me with these two interviews more than the entire season with his singing. Dude has some personality and guts.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

Not bitchier than queen c-nt herself, Nicki, tho.

  • SnowFairy444

I wonder why Idol has so much trouble finding decent judges? Steven Tyler and J Lo were too nice and didn’t bother to critique. Still, I would rather have an honest judge who is tactful and not rude to the contestants or to the judges. Why is that so hard to find?

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

Nicki retweeted and favorited tweets from her fans like:
“wow Nicki was about to clock the f outta Angie”
“I know Nicki wanted to call Angie a bitch!”
and “Nicki looked like she wanted to hop over the table and bop Angie on her head.

  • HKfan

Because she had already made up her mind on him, not based on his performance, or even his last performances, but out of spite, because someone didn’t save her boo, so no way was she going to save theirs, regardless of how well, he sang.

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

Exactly. I probably would feel more inclined to side with him had he left those parts out. (I personally think that those comments are the sole motivating factors that sparked Nicki into her Twitter rage.) However, he just HAD to take it there.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

I’m not really a fan of Mariah either, but Nicki will never reach Mariah’s level of success.

  • elliegrll

People have never been judged on their sing for your life performance. For years it was only used to build up suspense and drama. It was also used as a way to ensure that producers favorites, usually female contestants, weren’t eliminated earlier in the competition. Neither Jessica or Casey were saved based on their sing outs, there were saved in a way that the producers felt would make for a good tv moment that would be covered by the press.

  • Myrrna

All she has are ass implants. Period. Prefab rappy girl- nobody else could ever do what Ol’ Clownbangs does, is that your point?

  • http://www.fatladysings.us/ TFLS

I don’t think Nicki knows from ‘adult’. Her wierd-ass bahavior bugs the hell outta me. Too OTT. I’ve actually stopped watching the show. I catch up on the video’s here instead (minus the NM performance). Here’s hoping they lose Ms. Nicki (and Ms. Mariah) next season.

  • SnowFairy444

The entertainment business is so cut throat that sometimes I think it’s best to be quiet. Hope this doesn’t come back to haunt him.

  • Larc

If TPTB want a save, there will be a save.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

It won’t. I love Devin, but he is lacking star potential, so I fear he’ll fade away like most contestants. This won’t help or hurt him a bit.

  • jobeob987

Methinks Nicki doesn’t understand the meaning of the word, ‘gracious.’ The more I see of her, the more I dislike her. First of all, I don’t think Devin was disrespectful towards her at all. Secondly, it really bugs me that there may not be a save just because Nicki deems it so. She needs to get over herself. AI isn’t about her. Then again, she is a mercurial creature who could change her mind next week and desperately vote to save Burnell or Lazaro. Who knows with this chick?

  • jobeob987

    Amen!

  • taylor

I don’t get it, why? Did Angie say anything about Nicki or act disrespectful (as if she deserves respect, lol) to her in any way? Minaj really does act like some immature junior high mean girl. I find it hard to believe that she is a thirty year old woman.

  • Trina

Ugh I despise her. I wonder how many longterm viewers like myself stopped watching because of her? I’ve tolerated a lot of annoyances over the years but I just cant deal with her. I hope the ratings keep dropping everytime this vile, insufferable, unprofessional bitch keeps opening her mouth. She should hope and pray she has a career even 1/4 of the time Mariah has been around.

  • EvenMoreron

now that i think about it, i can see a non elimination when it gets to the top 5 girls. i thought for sure they would save Burnell, but now with Nicki I’m not so sure.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Actually, the save has been most often used to keep male contestants in the pool.

    S8 – Matt Giraud (M)
    S9 – Michael Lynche (M)
    S10 – Casey Abrams (M)
    S11 – Jessica Sanchez (F)

That said, I find its existence to be mostly about ramping up the dramah.

  • elliegrll

Devin wants to write songs for all the fans who have been voting for him during the past three weeks.

  • MV007

My point is she has a talent and this dust up on idol won’t even be a footnote in her biography.

  • elliegrll

Even Devin knew that the decision was made in stone. Curtis and Paul knew it during their eliminations too. In previous seasons people trashed the judges for pretending to talk about saving someone.

  • DianeZee

I’m with Devin all the way. Nicki needs to stop insulting the contestants and be a professional, and the producers need to tell her to shut the “ef” up. This kid Devin is a great talent and he shouldn’t have had to be publically screamed at just because one of their favorites can’t remember his lines. Nicki is a tool. Go Devin!!

  • Axxxel

Maybe she did not like Angie’s lackluster performance that night ?

  • RalphResty

Finally a guy with guts to stand up to that no talent trash Minaj.

  • elliegrll

Devin has to learn how to connect with the music, and make people feel the meaning of his songs. It’s his failure to do that that resulted in him being in the bottom three every week, even though he has a nice voice. I’d predicted that because of that voice that he’d be the only one who could keep a girl from winning this year, but he couldn’t get it together.

His other problem is that he’s incredibly boring, and he’s aiming to make a style of music that’s no longer popular, and where it will be hard for him to get fans of the genre to take him seriously.

  • http://www.facebook.com/nate.harris.583234 Nate Harris

I’m not surprised this is coming from Devin because of what happened on Wednesday night’s group performance. Devin and Burnell both threw Lazaro under the bus to try to save their own asses. The boy is very talented but he has no class. GTFO Devin, that is why America sent your ass home. If he would have kept it cute, like Kree did when defending Janelle on their duet, you would still be there.

  • elliegrll

I haven’t heard Nicki say anything to the contestants that is worse than what Simon used to say. Or, the time that Ellen told Tim Urban that he should be an actor instead of a singer.

  • Axxxel

Carrie is too nice. We need another Simon Cowell and Nicki is trying to fill that role but people don’t like a woman being “too bitchy”.. I am sure that if a guy would have said the same words Nicki said, people will not be that upset.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

Simon never brought his drama onto a social network. Nicki is a pussy still suck in high school.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

    Who knows? She’s delirious.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

I’m definitely siding with Devis on this but am I the only one who finds this part of Nicki’s tweets hillarious? “Send the judges some flowers and a card” lol.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

Or maybe because Nicki’s just a bitch?

  • teekee

Well, none of this surprises me, or offends me. Devin has every right to speak his mind. I don’t think he was being ungracious, just speaking his truth. Nikki responded in true Nikki fashion. Unprofessional? Yes, she said way too much(Curtis crap). Unexpected? No.
The one thing I do agree with her on, is the Save being bs. Not because of Curtis, just it’s very existence. Anything that over rides the votes is bull.

  • czt

But it shouldn’t be about the judges, should it? When Idol started, no one knew who Simon and Randy were and Paula was a “has been”. Obviously all three gained fame through Idol, but the show started out with a little know judging crew. Since Simon and Paula left, it has all been about finding super star judges to draw viewers. I wish they’d go back to making it about the contestants. Shania twain was an awesome guest judge as was Harry Connick Jr. Or find record producers to fill in the judging positions. Right now I look forward to jimmy ivine’s commentary much more than any of the so called judges.

  • Prime_Minister

Idol has been my favorite out of all the singing shows, and I started out really liking Nicki as a judge, but her bullying here is hard to overlook. This leaves a very bad taste in the mouths of viewers/fans because, at the end of the day, we watch Idol to feel good about being part of someone’s journey to stardom. It sucks to see a judge – who is hired to help – turn on a contestant like this. You don’t see The Voice judges treating contestants as badly.

Sad to see this season blow up like this.

  • taylor

But Nicki had already harshly criticized Angie’s performance on the show and Angie wasn’t disrespectful. Why did NM have to go further with it after the show with wanting to “clock the f outta Angie” and wanting “to call Angie a Bitch”. Nicki thinks Angie is a bitch because she had a lackluster performance?
Something is seriously wrong with this woman. She’s not right in the head.

  • lightoftruth

Wrong!! i disagree. Devin was doomed from the start! It took Jimmy’s vote to allow him to stay in the Top 10! ALL the guys will go home and that has been AI’s plan all along! A girl MUST win this year, this has been said over and over! Curtis was a very strong singer and should not have been the first one to leave, but imo, AI must keep the drama going so their ratings won’t flop…..WELL, gues what? Their ratings continue to go down! lol!

  • czt

Adam lambert could fill Simon’s role!

  • Larc

I don’t think Devin and Burnell really threw Lazaro under the bus. But even if they had, the whole thing was his fault. He fully deserved the blame.

  • Incipit

“The one thing I do agree with her on, is the Save being bs. Not because of Curtis, just it’s very existence. Anything that over rides the votes is bull.”

Yes, teekee. The Save is BS. And that’s the only take-away from this nonsense, for me. We are not the only ones who know that. I also read that the two women wearing red dresses was in solidarity for the Same Sex Marriage Proposition before the Supreme Court – but Idol is hardly gonna say that to a national audience – and those two are hardly gonna wear the same color without a reason. So, I don’t get Devin and the reporter talking about Nicki’s appearance. But I also don’t get Devin talking to a reporter without a PR person around, either. Just because he didn’t finish in the top, doesn’t mean he ought not to have protection from being manipulated by the media. Nicki has her people, she’s on her own there if she doesn’t use them. Idol ought to be looking out for ‘their’ image, even if they don’t care about the hamsters’. These silly little dust-ups are avoidable by any PR person w/experience, so maybe Idol didn’t ‘want’ to avoid them. JMO.

  • taylor

She told Tim he could be like Zac Efron in High School Musical. It’s a movie musical, they sing in the movie and on the soundtracks that sold tons of copies. The stars of the movie have gone on to have careers on tv and in movies. That is a far cry from “just go, get off the stage”.

  • Maya100

I thought Devin’s comments were very well stated and not at all ungracious.

You’d think Nicki Minaj would appreciate someone who speaks the truth as he sees it and stands up for himself. Or I guess she’s one of those can give it but can’t take it (even though Devin was nicer than she’d be).

  • Liteasy

The voters sent Curtis home because he’s got an attitude that they saw the way he treated Charlie, and he’s still got an attitude in that he’s retweeting Nicki’s tweets.

  • jms

After a bit of thinking, yeah, Team Devin here, but there’s something strangely entertaining about Nicki’s tweets however unprofessional they are. Never change, Nicki….. No, actually, do change, take your own advice to Paul Jolley and “just give us one minute of professionalism” (maybe more professionalism than just a minute), but stay interesting.

  • DianeZee

I just don’t see that as relevant. That was then, this is now. I’m judging this show on who is there right now. Nicki is inappropriate and very low-class.

  • http://www.facebook.com/nate.harris.583234 Nate Harris

No, they didn’t really throw him under the bus but I think the audience could see where they were going from their comments that they made and all the sideeye, that’s why Nicki had to cut Burnell off real quick before he said any more sh** that would get him kicked off (did you catch that). Idol Rule #1, Don’t throw anybody under the bus and especially don’t throw anybody with a disability under the bus. That makes you look EXTRA EXXXXXXTRA douchy to the people who vote on this show. Yeah, you could blame Lazaro for the performance turning to sh** but it wasn’t necessary at the time to steer the blame his way, basically keep your mouth shut and let’s go to commercial Ryan. When the judges were criticizing Janelle about her performance with Kree on “Like A Prayer”, I commended Kree for keeping it cute and classy. Imagine if Kree would have said: “Well, I learned my harmonies. I tried to save her but this is a competition.” Kree would be sitting at home right now and you know it.

  • Miz

I totally agree. Devin’s comments are right on point. Nicki claims to like people for being honest. I guess it’s only when it suits her agenda.

  • Larc

She likes when she’s honest, as she sees it. She probably wouldn’t appreciate the honesty of others who truly assessed her people qualities. Or the lack of them.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

Nicki Minaj is the only thing that makes this season the least bit interesting. The contestants most certainly aren’t doing their job. Yes, they can all sing, but where’s the personality? No where. Keith Urban is a piece of dry toast. Mariah is a Madame Tussaud wax figure. And Randy is…. Randy. Devin and his fans should thank their lucky stars he’s getting extra press from Nicki.

  • http://www.facebook.com/nate.harris.583234 Nate Harris

    YESSSS SAY THAT!!!!

  • Kim

IA so hard with every single word of this. And lbr, if Nicki were a white man she wouldn’t get 90% of the flack she does — FACT. Her critique of the trio would just mean that she’s “passionate and caring”.

  • Kim

I wonder how many longtime watchers like myself are mainly only still watching for her!

  • Maya100

No, not FACT. I can’t stand white men, white women or black men who act as self-absorbed and rude as she does. But I’m not being subjected to them every week. (Well, I’m not actually being subjected to her since I barely watch anymore)

I don’t appreciate Mariah much either – too much diva, not enough constructive critique.

  • Maya100

Simon was and is important. He can give you a shot at a career. Nicki can’t. What good is she to Devin? Mariah? Maybe. Randy? Maybe. Nicky? Nothing. He’s better off making a bit of a name for himself as a tough artist who’s willing to stand up for himself. He hasn’t said anything rude; in fact, he’s seemed more mature than Nicki. Nothing he’s said should hurt him.

  • Maya100

Nicki talks baby-talk and gibberish half the time. She has no experience molding talent. There’s no comparison to Simon, who earned people’s respect just as much as he earned their irritation.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

I thought that was one of the best TV moments in AI history.

  • Pippygirl

I agree with Nicki that the save is bs- except I think it is bs no matter who the judges use it on. Just another way for the producers to manipulate the show and try to get the outcome they want.

I also think a judge fighting with a contestant does only harm to the show. I have to admit though that I kind of hope when Nicki is off the show, she does a “tell all” interview or something, where she exposes all the behind the scenes nonsense that goes on. I think she would be the one person that wouldn’t give a damn and will just tell it like it is!

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

It’s most likely in her contract if does reveal info. about he show, that they can sue her into oblivion

  • mjsbigblog

The Save is 100% about “good tv”

  • LeahKittyS

Wow. Just wow. I liked Nicki at first, but now I understand why my grandmother hates her so much. That is the most rude, untactful, disrespectful, and inconsiderate I have ever seen a judge act towards a contestant. I am so totally siding with Devin on this.

  • girlygirl

Has the save ever been used on anyone other than a judges’ favorite? Which I don’t think Devin really was. Except for Jessica, I don’t think it’s been used on someone who anyone thought was a real candidate to win the show, has it?

The only time I thought the save added anything to the excitement f the show was S8 — but that may have been simply because it was the first time it was used. The other contestants were so excited when they saved Matt G, it gave the show a nice jolt of fun and excitement. But even then, I don’t think too many people thought he had a chance of winning that season.

As the seeasons have gone along, there just seems like there has been less and less reason for the judges save to even exist. It is nothing more than a gimmick. It probably never was anything more than that.

  • mjsbigblog

Personally, I think Nicki over reacted as she is wont to do. Sure, Devin got a little snarky in these interviews, and you can criticize him for that (not me, for snark, I thought it was pretty mild) but her reaction was way over the top.

And besides, she is supposed to be the adult in this situation, no? If one of my nieces gets bratty with me, I take the high road because I’m the grown up. The last thing I do is take it personally.

He’s an 18 year old high school senior with little experience. She’s a world famous pop star. Not to mention a professional, hired by FOX to do her job with some professionalism.

She needs to calm down and grow a thicker skin.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=619146318 Arkarch

There was much to like about Nicki during the Vegas shows I attended – like spending time with her fans and sometimes spot-on commentary.. But I also know she made one particularly deadly comment to one of the contestants (about weight) that hushed the audience. It was edited out of the on-air broadcast. The judges joked about it later in that show. I knew then she had a nasty and potentially vindictive side. Think she is taking the outcome of the show way too seriously?

  • EB

Adult as in he can vote, buy cigarettes and R-rated movies, but he isn’t out of highschool yet and is still very much a teenager. He is young, and he has handled it pretty well. Any snark from him has been very minimal and no worse than her overreacting and temper tantrums, more just in response to it.

  • EB

  • Niall

Nicki confuses me. Sometimes she says what needs to be said, but it’s also clear she has her favorites and tailors her comments to prop or tear down, depending on whether she likes the person. Simon used to do the same thing and it bugged me with him, too.

I also think Nicki is very media savvy and says things for a reaction. This might be one of those times.

  • LeahKittyS

That’s another reaosn I was somewhat disappointed they didn’t save him. He may not be a judges’ favorite, but the other contestants love him dearly. The week before, when he was sent to the bottom 3, all the others turn their heads at once in shock. And this week, they were jamming out to his “Save Me” song. I was waiting for that moment he would be saved, and they would ambush him with hugs. But not now :(.

  • EB

Weren’t we all just telling Lazaro a few days ago that if he can’t handle criticism, he isn’t ready for show biz? It appears some mega stars that have already made it, namely Nicki, cannot handle it either. Ridic! :/

  • Niall

Oh Devin, let it go. There’s no benefit to getting into a pissing contest on twitter with Nicki Minaj. I just hope this little dust up isn’t being encouraged behind the scenes by Fox & Nigel.

  • EB

There is truth to that! >:) But in this case, I have sincere doubt over how great the set of smarts that this Nicki character possesses truly are. :P

  • mjsbigblog

He tweeted that hours ago…and then deleted it.

  • http://twitter.com/krbcan KRB TWIT BITES

His comment about being least experienced is somewhat dubious. I dont think Burnell has much experience, nor does Lazaro.

  • LeahKittyS

I agree. Stacking the deck with weaker men was one thing. But then to point out how much weaker they are every single time they get up there is just hurtful and mean and wrong. No wonder Lazaro gets so emotional. I think they were all hurting from this treatment, and the other four are just better at hiding it.

For the record, I don’t mind that these guys are just average singers and are not all that manly. I’d take any of them as my gay best friend any day and we can sing together :)

  • Larc

If Nicki were to write a tell-all book about Idol, it might hurt them some. But they could probably make adjustments and continue. If it were true and they sued her for it, however, that would likely ruin them completely in the public’s eyes. The show would almost definitely be finished, IMO.

  • merkureye

Devin, you can’t win this one. When you find yourself in a hole. . .stop digging! AI voters don’t like contestants cutting other contestants down and the voters sure don’t like contestants talking back to judges. Like it or not Nicki Minaj has all the power in this fight. Devin is only digging himself a gigantic hole to try and launch a music career from.

Nicki is right. It was her and the other judges who got Devin to the live shows in the first place. How ungracious can Devin get? He doesn’t realize how lucky he was.

Obviously Nicki could have taken the high road and ignored Devin’s criticisms and she should have since I’m sure Devin is lashing out since he believes (and rightfully so) that it should have been Lazaro and not him going home. That is Nicki’s point. It is America’s votes that either keep you on Idol are cause you to leave.

Sorry, dissing Nicki is hazardous to your career health.

  • jms

Good move on his part. I don’t think that tweet did him any favors. He might have just had an emotional outburst and realized what he said wasn’t gonna help him at all. This calling out business isn’t all that fun. It could be interesting, but in the long run it’s just lame.

  • EB

    I never thought so. :P

  • mjsbigblog

I still like her as a judge. She’s unpredictable and is often the truth teller when it’s needed. I also like when she goes off on tangents about waffles and such. I find that amusing.

But she’s also narcissistic, and allows herself to over-identify with some of the contestants. In those cases, her comments are bullshit and her agenda really transparent.

Having said that, when has the bubble ever been happy with the judges panel? It’s part of Idol life to be haters where the judges are concerned.

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

Well it would a non-disclosure clause with a set amount of money for breaking it. It wouldn’t be a case so much, as a judge determining whether she broke the agreement and deciding how much it will cost her. I believe all contestant have such an agreement also. You can talk all you want but it’s gonna cost ya!

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

I don’t think Nicki was hurt by anything Devin had to say. I think she’s a master of promo. And, as I said before, Devin benefits from her reaction. After all, we’re still talking about him. Personally, I want Nicki to continue being Nicki. I’m not interested in her taking advise from anyone. If the REAL Nicki doesn’t work on Idol so be it. But, I don’t want her changing for the middle-American masses.

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

That’s nice that you think the judge actually decide who makes the show

  • mjsbigblog

She was clearly pissed. And if Nicki gets to be “real” why doesn’t Devin? That’s the thing. She’s all about keeping it real, unless someone throws even a smidgen of a side eye her way. She can dish it out, but can’t take it at all.

  • EB

Maybe Devin didn’t forcefully win in this argument but I know who lost and it sure ain’t him. Nicki, the superstar and adult in the situation, is exposed yet again as a juvenile, arrogant person that cannot control her attitude when someone doesn’t live and speak in complete awe of her at every moment.

  • jms

…Um… Janelle might have an issue now, too.

“@BravoSuperFan @nickiminaj @janelleai12 Nikki should try to be less snide and rude and more constructive. #crappymentor”

This was just retweeted by Janelle. Seems like Nicki’s marshmallow might have an issue with her, too. Key word “might”. This could be absolutely nothing, but it’s interesting that Janelle would retweet it.

This doesn’t surprise me. She hinted at the same type of thing about Kree the other night.
What did Nicki say during the Vegas show and to whom?

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

Devin is getting a lot of hate from the Barbz on twitter. He tweeted thanking the judges for the opportunity to be on Idol and all he’s getting are nasty mentions from the Barbz. I’m sure he didn’t realize that his previous tweet would create so much controversy. Some people are so ridiculous. They’re being relentless in attacking Devin and he wasn’t even rude or harsh in his tweet.

  • EB

She added, @Insolent2U @bravosuperfan @nickiminaj still love her though :)

So, not quite. A good thing.. I don’t know how much more drama we need right now. haha.

But the ‘still…’ is kinda funny. Both her and Devin have taken that we still love her route after she is called out for her nastiness. :P

  • bricky

I don’t understand where all this anger was when Simon was a judge on AI. He said things that were far ruder and dehumanizing than Minaj has, but it never seemed like he got called out for it. People wanted brutal honesty…well here it is IMO.

  • mjsbigblog

Some of her fans are crazy. When they attack, they aren’t only mean, but can be incredibly vulgar.

  • mjsbigblog

I think that remark was a diss directed at Mariah, not Kree.

  • EB

The Bratz take after their master, I guess. Sigh.

  • mjsbigblog

Please don’t generalize. Of course Simon got called out on it, all the time. By the time Simon left Idol, fans weren’t really all that unhappy to see him go.

  • EB

The way I remember it is that most people hated him too. He was rude and went after their favorites, but had enough honest/accurate moments to sort of but not really redeem him, just like Nicki, because even when he was right he was still a jerk. He didn’t get away with it most of the time, and neither will she.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marimarpr Marimar Rios

Some of them definitely seem crazy. I read some of things they are saying and saying that they are harsh would be an understatement.

  • LeahKittyS

I know, right? The cattiness he kind of is almost refreshing. Between his talking voice and fashion sense, he reminds me of a character on “Ugly Betty.”

  • Latin2

I saw that. She should tell her fans not too be so nasty. She asks others to be ‘gracious’ but doesn’t tell her fans to act the same. Also she reportedly retweeted some nasty tweets about Angie. She didn’t have to do that, ad could’ve told her fans to knock if off instead of retweeting their remarks.

  • LeahKittyS

Actually, something awful just occurred to me as I read this comment back. If these guys really are the closet cases they come off as, think of what a nasty subliminal message the show is sending. Take a bunch of insecure young men and make fools of them for the sake of crowning a girl winner. Not cool at all, FOX/Idol/whoever calls the shots. Seriously, the guys are being pounded in the butt so hard they reek of oil.

  • taylor

I’m talking about when she told Kree she was a queen for having confidence when standing next to her “marshmellow” Janelle. What comment are you referring to?

  • LeahKittyS

Oh. My. Gosh. No. That does it. That’s the last straw. She is so the villain in this year’s story. You took my Devin away from me, and now you insult my home-state girl? You better not be back next year!

  • Reflects On Life

So true. Kree would be home eating cooked crow with a tub of popcorn in her pjs at home right now. In fact, it’s commendable that the AI viewers finally held a non-black male finalist to the same high standards of self-conduct that they have always held the female and black male contestants.

  • taylor

I’m still confused about what exactly Angie did that made Nicki want to “clock the fuck out of her” and call her a bitch. Geesh, who is on Nicki’s list that she likes? (other than herself?) Amber, Burnell, Candice and Kree. The rest better watch out!

  • mjsbigblog

That’s the comment. Yep. When Mariah got the news that she’d be sharing the panel with another woman, she literally hung up the phone, because she was promised she’d be the queen bee.

Nicki actually referred to that in one of her twitter rants, I think–that Mariah was too insecure to sit on the panel with another strong woman. And Nicki wondered why that should even be, because Mariah was such a legend.

I don’t believe for a minute that little speech she gave was about Kree or Janelle. It was about all the shit that went down with Mariah.

  • LeahKittyS

Actually, I think she might have taken a stab at Kree’s weight at one point. People around here are saying the comment was directed at Mariah because of something that happened over the summer, but Kree still seemed a little upset. No one is safe!

  • sweetmm

I’m not sure whether Nicki’s rants are the AI tactics of up-ping the ratings; but personally I find it extremely uncomfortable coming from “a judge”. She’s coming across as hateful and vindictive and this will only take viewers away from AI.

  • taylor

I believe it was about Janelle being more attractive or thinner than Kree.

If Nicki pointed out that Kree was less attractive than Janelle and made Kree feel bad, just so she could make some trivial point about her feud with Mariah, that’s EVEN WORSE than I imagined. Minaj was pointing out that Kree was “less than” Janelle in some physical way on live tv in front of millions of viewers, just to get back at Mariah?

Wow, she’s way meaner and has even less regard for others than I thought before.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Was it Nicki who told Kree she sang next to a beautiful girl and did well? I cringed at that.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I’m not conservative and I am not impressed by her at all. I missed the auditions, so I can only comment on post Vegas and her reported twitter rants. I’m also still in the demo, if only for a few more years. Not that I really understand that or care to spend the time to do so,

  • abbysee

I’ve been in love sigh idol since season1. I’ve muddled through subpar seasons and subpar judges.. I’ve even tried to muster up a little tolerance for Ms.Minaj. as usual I was fooled by judicious editing. All the things people have bated previous and present judges for she’s guilty of. She has horrible musical taste like Simon, lol. She reduces the contestants down to what they are wearing like Paula, but without her wacky stoned jaunty compassion. She uses stock quotes and malapropisms like Randy, but without his affability or the excuse that he’s done this so long its difficult to find a good catchphrase. (Million bajillion, et tu Minaj?). All of that might be forgiven if:

She’d show more compasssion/ interest in the contestants (not even a kind farewell pat on the head to parting contestants?)
She’d stop hypersexualizing every Damn thing!
If she had better musical taste. Overstating the worth of Curtis Finch after he stunk up the joint was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. Her live of that peaches characters might have been the first.
if she’d stop giving fashion advice.( Amber stick to yours guns and just say no to pink lipstick)
if she’d stop behaving like a juvenile when Mariah speaks,or she disagrees with Keith or Randy, this is not the Nicki show!

  • abbysee

    Crap no edit

Finally be fucking professional, don’t be late for live shows (nobody else has been and they are just as important as you!) Don’t engage 18 y/o novices in a twitter war. Are you that self centered?

Ive not watched for two weeks now. Its no longer fun. Her silly accents, occasional solid critiques, and interesting hair choices are not enough to make me tune in. So I’ll just watch the video here at Mjs…….

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I think she says what she believes what is the truth, but I also think she isn’t that astute. I think Keith is the most astute judge. Of course, it is all subjective. When her career fails, she’s gonna be the new incarnation of Michelle Shocked. Not because of the gay thing, but because she can’t see beyond herself and craves attention.

  • abbysee

Where is edit, my posts look like I’m sipping from one of those spiked coke cups!

  • Kim

LOL so the two people you “can’t stand” on this show are the two women of color? What a total coincidence! Your anger alone at my comment shows that you’re guilty of what exactly the kind of prejudice I pointed out, so thanks for making it even more obvious ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bug-Menot/100003601718986 Bug Menot

Nicki is immature and thin-skinned. She’s upset some of the contestants don’t give her the same respect they give Mariah. They blow off her criticism because she’s not a singer and it peeves her.

  • Kim

“And if Nicki gets to be “real” why doesn’t Devin?”

Common sense — because Devin doesn’t have any pull in this industry, and Nicki (like it or not) does. And a lot of it. Once you’ve paid your dues, established yourself, and had some success, THEN you get to be “real”, but until then don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

  • Kim

    Yep all 5 of them.

  • Kim

    Bingo!

  • Kim

Lol right because no one has EVER gotten famous from being endorsed by another pop star (justin beiber, carly rae) or being featured on a rappers track (mya, ashanti).

  • Kim

It’s relevant because your opinions on Nicki aren’t based on what she’s saying, they’re based on her gender and color.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bug-Menot/100003601718986 Bug Menot

Mariah has said she would like to work with Devin in the future. If Nicki made the same offer, it would probably mean being an extra in one of her videos where she wears a wig and little else.

  • Guest

    Nicki is a fucking hypocrite.

  • Nadine_Bitch

I think TPTB initially believed that Nicki could bring young audiences and be funny on the panel. But I think she didn’t bring either of that instead she turned off some people and skip watching the show. I never said anything about Nicki before and I enjoyed her on audition episodes and I realized that’s because it was still edited. But now that it’s all live I just find her so annoying and utterly classless. Mariah might be boring but she at least gives critique that sometimes makes me nod with her. But Nicki? I won’t even talk about the sexual critique but I can’t forget how she said to a contestant that she has a beautiful vibrato when she didn’t even used one. lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bug-Menot/100003601718986 Bug Menot

Decent people who have made it treat people decently. They don’t look to belittle others. Nicki does so on the show and she does it off the show. That shows her character.

  • jennyl2

It’s bad taste to ‘teach/ preach/ judge’ about the attitude of the contestants in public when she’s in the position of a judge. If she really wants to help a 18 year old boy to see the error of his ways, she should do it privately and in a grown up way. It’s also bad taste to use her power as a judge on the save just to spite other judges.

  • czt

Gosh, I agree with you, that comment was just awful and mean. I was surprised there wasn’t much outrage over that comment because Kree looked like her feelings were really hurt. It was so inappropriate!

I think that the judges are instructed to create buzz at all cost, and TPTB is welcoming OTT behavior and controversy.. as well as them texting during the show…in order to look cool?…LOL…

That said, I find Nick contrived attitude more and more annoying, her sexual innuendos out of place..I all feels fake fake fake..

I must be hard for the contestants to know that they are in the hands of people who treat them like pawn in the ratings game.

That although the audience vote (not America), they vote on what they are shown and what they are shown isn’t really in the hands of the contestants.

I thought the premise of the show is “America’s Favorite Singer”? When the Save is used it negates the voting of those who took the time to express their feelings. In a way, Nicki is right. *choke choke*

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

I think it was the last two seasons where Simon was at his worse. He basically phoned in Season 9 and some feel he deliberately didn’t want good ratings. I don’t know. All I know is that I was not a fan of Simon Cowell.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’ve liked Nicki this year, but once the live shows started, I’ve liked her less and less as a judge. Now, with this outburst at Devin, my opinion of Nicki as a judge and a person has declined a lot. I agree with her about the save being “BS”, but it wasn’t appropriate for her to lash out at Devin, especially I didn’t see any evidence of him not being “gracious” in his post-show interviews or press conference. I don’t think that Devin should have tweeted that last tweet about Nicki (that he deleted later), but he’s only 18 and I can give him a pass on that, because it was the truth about how Nicki was behaving and he was provoked by Nicki’s BS.

Ultimately, the “blame” for the trio trainwreck lies with Lazaro, and I can sympathize with both Burnell and Devin for feeling the way that they did. I didn’t like Lazaro’s cocky, flippant attitude after the show and how he didn’t immediately own up to being the one who royally screwed over Burnell and Devin. I can’t wait for him to leave.

  • springboard2

The premise that the show is “America’s favorite singer” is what the producers would like us to believe, but in reality, it is the favorite of a small proportion of a TV show audience decided by a process that no one in America or in the world would consider democratic.

The fact that the judges can rescue a contestant that has fallen through the cracks of a realiity TV system makes sense, although it doesn’t contribute to validate the process, since it is just another aspect of making a TV show.

  • fuzzywuzzy

True. Plus, the audience for Idol has grown more and more narrow over the years, so even that small proportion of the audience who is voting is not at all representative of the “American people”.

“Finally be fucking professional, don’t be late for live shows (nobody else has been and they are just as important as you!) Don’t engage 18 y/o novices in a twitter war. Are you that self centered?”

Yeah, I agree. Nicki lost all credibility as a “professional” by being late to the live show and behaved inappropriately by attacking one of the contestants without reason. Also, if it’s true that she would never allow a guy to be saved because Curtis wasn’t saved, then she’s not fit to be a judge. I liked Nicki at first, but less and less once the live shows started. Now, there are too many negatives to having her as a judge than positives, and I’m not at all looking forward to having to see her on the remaining shows. Some people shouldn’t be given a position of authority and I feel that Nicki is one of those people.

  • http://twitter.com/sam12418 Sue C.

Bottom line – he was bottom 3 each week. The save would have been a waste. Nice kid, great voice (like all but one that are left), but America wasn’t voting for him. He certainly had the opportunity for sympathy votes after Wednesday but he didn’t get them. Nicki is brutally honest when she’s not being silly, and it’s not a bad thing. They need thick skin if they want to be celebrities (ask Taylor Swift). If Randy and Mariah take an interest in him, he’ll have his chances.

  • elliegrll

It’s relevant to me, because these comments make me feel like I’ve entered the twilight zone. When hasn’t the save been about making a good tv moment, and more recently, making sure that producer favorites didn’t leave too soon. It has never been about rewarding someone who gave a good sing for your life moment.

  • elliegrll

She told Tim that he should try out for Glee, and that he would be a better actor than a commercial artist.

We’ll have to agree to disagree, especially since Nicki’s comments acknowledged the talent of the guys, showed that she felt that they could do better at this point, and wasn’t said in a funny way.

  • elliegrll

Simon didn’t have a social network to bring his drama to.

  • elliegrll

That’s why I think it’s funny that he seems to be blaming the judges for swaying public opinion against him. Nicki always showed support for him, even when he really deserved to hear some home truths about why people weren’t connecting with him. He can blame everybody else if he wants to, but it’s Devin and his fellow contestants who are throwing this opportunity away, and putting themselves in a position where it’s going to be hard to benefit from being on the show.

  • Valarie

I was completely on team Nicki early in the season, but I am over her now. The way she fans over the weakest boys is part of her blatant manipulation. It is the same reason that she throws shade on Angela and Janelle. She wants a finale with Candice/Amber or Candice/Kree.

It has worked on Angela, who has totally lost her confidence. I think it is backfiring with Janelle. It is making her stronger.

Now Nicki just makes me want to change the station.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Li-Wright/100001622678180 Li Wright

Gotta love her. She has cajones.

  • Tommyo2000

Time for ms Minaj to be gracious…. She has made it to the top of the music industry… These kids are trying to break in… She can be nice to them as they exit…

  • Nostradamas

Ol’ chicklet teeth Nigel must be happy, he loves the drama. You know this was sanctioned by the Brit…It seems all the shows with the British producers seem to think that peole would rather watch drama and trainwrecks than real talented judges and contestants. It’s no wonder the Voice is kicking AI’s ass in this respect….it’s fun to watch…AI, not so much…

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Trainwrecks have been happening on this show for 12 seasons now. I assume people are bored by it, than the British simply thinking people rather watch all the drama. Which some N.American audience clearly does, or there wouldn’t have been so much Real Housewives spin-offs. So don’t know why people are behaving they haven’t liked the trainwrecks before. Didn’t the auditions use to be popular for a reason?

  • Miz

You’re so right. Devin should not be talking to reporters. He should not be answering their questions. This is the Nicki Minaj show. Doesn’t he know his place?

    /end sarcasm

  • Nostradamas

My point is further proven by the judges that are hired on each show…tell me Nikki and Maria weren’t hired for the fireworks…that started before the auditions did…and Simon Cowell is just as guilty.

  • Miz

Nicki is ALL Nicki. Her actions cannot be attributed to the producers or anyone else. This woman is low class and has always been. I didn’t like her before and she’s done nothing to redeem herself in my opinion.

What I hate the most about her is she considers herself a role model for little girls.

  • Larc

Instead she rubs salt into their wounds. Nicki lacks the class to be gracious. The Idol contestants are very unfortunate to be afflicted with her.

  • Miz

I would love for ALL of them to say what they really think about her. This is one of the biggest problems in the industry. People are afraid to speak out against what anyone with half a brain can see. The mandatory ass kissing sickens me.

  • Miz

Poor Devin will never get that rap career he wanted. Is that what you’re saying?

  • Miz

I thought they’d use the save if for no other reason than to get it off the table.

  • Miz

Nah. It would be the ‘Gospel according to Nicki’. I wouldn’t expect a shred of truth out of any tell all from her.

  • Indigobunting

Ah, I think Nikki is bizarre, but Idol needs a ‘Simon’ every year to stay interesting, the judge you ‘love to hate’, lol.

I thought her comments made it interesting, and I agree 100% with her, that trio was horrendous last week.

  • Miz

    Seriously?

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

There has been jack$ss who have succeeded being a jack$ss, too. Not many, and I’m not excusing Nicki’s behaviour, but some stars behave like a b*tch to get where they are. I don’t condone it, but that’s the ugly side of the industry that unfortunately Devin is getting a sneak peak into right now.

  • Miz

Yes, Devin should send Mariah, Keith, and Randy flowers and a card.

  • Face

Ellen, is a great chat show host, has a wicked sense of humour, and seems like a really interesting, intelligent & warm person…. but she was a TERRIBLE judge on AI… IMO
I never understand what she was doing there… she was not from the music industry… clearly hated giving critiques… and added noting to the show…. and I think that had a negative impact on the credibility of the show (and in a smaller, and shorter way, on her)…

Argh, I haven’t voted since Adam Lambert, but the way Nicki is acting makes me want to vote for Burnell just to break up her “all girl Top 5.”

  • taylor

She said Glee and High School Musical, they are both shows where the actors sing. At the time, Glee was dominating iTunes everyweek and it had best-selling albums worldwide. They also had sold-out summer tours. That’s certainly not a diss in any way, anymore than telling someone they belong on a Broadway stage.

If Nicki had actually said the interpretation of her comment that you made, it would have been a good and fair critique. Yelling “just go, get off the stage” did not come across as the nice interpretation you thought up, not to the guys or the viewers.

Nicki’s comments and her twitter rants to Devon and Angie aren’t remotely anything like Ellen’s suggestion to Tim to pursue singing on a popular tv show (extremely popular at the time) or on a popular movie series. The actors, who are also talented vocalists on these shows, have gone on to have other careers in many other entertainment fields.

  • mjsbigblog

I didn’t see it as a comparison of beauty between them.

  • Reflects On Life

I can’t believe how polarizing Nikki is, nor how much comment she incites. I’m much more vexed by the likes of Ellen DG or Steven Tyler, who get paid all that money and literally say and do nothing. It’s lke a big FU to the audience. (Britney I’ll semi-excuse due to the meds.) Or even Mariah, who is capable of more critique but simply does not think quickly on her feet. I don’t care if I like or dislike everything Nikki says or does. I like that she’s doing something, and in fact, doing a lot. She has no filter and really puts her neck out there each week to voice her opinion. Like Demi on XFUS, she’s not taking that paycheck for granted.
My only problem with Nikki is the balance with the other judges. She does kinda suck the air out of the room, so if they want to keep Nikki they really ought to replace Keith and Mariah with more opinionated types.
I’m really impressed with how much Randy has risen to the challenge now that Nikki has laid down the gauntlet. It used to be that Randy aped whatever Simon said. Nowadays it’s Mariah aping whatever Randy says. Who’d ever thunk that Randy would be a thought leader?? :O

  • Reflects On Life

It’s working on Janelle because Janelle has an inner artist, so Nikki’s critiques are forcing her hand. This is exactly the role that Simon played in contestants’ growth.
It’s backfiring on Angela because Angela’s still underdeveloped. The inner artist is still struggling to define itself. Again, just like with Simon, these tactics separate the wheat from the chaff.
I was pretty appalled by many of the rude, insensitive, biting, sarcastic, and demeaning things that Simon said in his heyday, too.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

Race has nothing to do with the fact that she is an insufferable person.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lauren.dennis.75 Lauren Dennis

Are you serious with that? This is a grown woman who insists on acting like a child. Going after an 18 yr. old is inexcusable. It’s great that she’s honest. However, it’s not so great when she’s being mean just to be mean. She’s reading her own press and trying to ape the ole ghost of Simon Cowell. When she’s not being mean she’s busy going on about the shade of someone’s lipstick. How is that good judging?

  • JosieX

It just makes me sad to think of tacky and vulgar becoming “de rigeur” for American Idol. Something doesn’t add up when viable contestants must have squeaky clean backgrounds and God help them if they let the pleasant expression falter for a second, and they are being judged by someone with the standards of behavior of Nicki. Maybe they will make more money if they just let it all descend to the lowest common denominator, and Ryan changes his intro to “THIS….is American Lowlife!”. I don’t know. If Nicki could stick with constructive, refreshing honesty that would be fine. But her ego trips are out of control and not good entertainment, from my perspective.

  • http://twitter.com/cindydesigns Cindy Moniz

Well, all I know is that I would buy 10 of Devin’s albums before I buy any of Nicki’s albums.

  • elliegrll

I think that she was responding to the petty insults of an 18 year old. She should have ignored him, or left it at the fact that he’s the one who couldn’t get people interested enough to vote for him.

Nicki isn’t acting like anyone, she’s being herself.

  • elliegrll

Devin can talk to anyone who he wants to, but he needs to get over himself if he thinks that anything that Nicki said had an impact on why he failed to connect with voters. If this situation involved anyone other than Nicki, even Simon, I’m sure that people would be talking about how Devin is blaming others instead of looking in the mirror. He needs to figure out what he did wrong, and correct those problems.

  • http://google tyanna

Oh but it is “the Nicki show” which = the drop in ratings

  • elliegrll

She had reason to attack him, since he attacked her first. But, even though he started it, she shouldn’t have acknowledged him. She has a career, and more than likely he never will see the level of success that she has, so she should have just let him look silly.

  • elliegrll

She said that she sang next to another beautiful girl, which implied that she was saying that they are both beautiful.

  • elliegrll

Tweeting “grow up hun” is an example of being rude.

  • elliegrll

IMO, retweeting that is silly. Mainly because this group has been such a disappointment. I really hope that this contestants aren’t blaming Nicki for their failure to generate buzz and ratings, or that it is really unlikely that they are going to draw flies to the tour.

  • mjsbigblog

It wasn’t long before he thought better of his tweet and deleted it. This kid is under enormous pressure. It’s up to Nicki to take the high road.

And I doubt if she’ll be deleting her tweets any time soon. She never does.

  • mjsbigblog

    And Nicki encourages the behavior.

But, there are very few artists who have the guts to call out their crazy fans. Nicki is not the exception to the rule.

  • Pippygirl

Yes she is being herself, but that does not excuse the behavior of someone who should know better. If Devin couldn’t get people interested enough to vote for him, well then neither could the guy Nicki wanted to save (whose name escapes me lol).
He is 18 years old and the one without power. She holds all the cards in the dynamic and what she is doing smacks of bullying imo.
I know you are a Nicki fan, and oddly enough I like her as a judge because she brings an honesty that has been lacking. However her critiques are erratic at times, and at times she is incomprehensible. When she was done judging Janelle, I literally had no idea what she was trying to say.

I hope she pulls it together because at least she is amusing at times.

  • taylor

Nicki did not say “ANOTHER beautiful girl”, she said “when you can stand up next to a beautiful girl…and still be confident…”.
Nothing in Nicki’s comment implied that she thought they were both Janelle and Kree were beautiful, just the opposite.

  • elliegrll

I really hope that these contestants realize that Nicki is not the problem, they are. They are the ones who are missing out on a big opportunity, Nicki already has her career established. They are the ones who don’t seem to know how to pick the right songs (I’m sure that the producers are also to blame), interpret the songs, or rearrange them in a way that fits their style. They are also the ones who have zero personality. They don’t need to act like Nicki, but they do need to let their personalities shine through when they are performing, and whenever the camera is on them.

  • bridgette12

I can’t get over the fact that she is letting a 18 year old kid get under her skin. Is she upset because she thinks he’s wrong or do she think there’s some grain of truth to what he’s saying. As you said, she’s being paid big bucks to be on this judges panel and at the least, you show up on time and try to pretend that you can be fair with your criticism. She’s coming across on twitter as just childish and immature.

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

I would disagree, once she doesn’t like you or you fall out of her favor. Her critiques often become vile and mean spirited (almost personal) and this shouldn’t be mistaken for honesty. Than she goes to twitter to rally her merry band of lunatics. If she wants to act like that than fine, but than don’t take the millions and don’t become a judge on Idol, people do and should expect a little maturity form the judging panel. When a contestant is worried about whether a judge is the enemy or not, there’s a problem :)

  • elliegrll

I haven’t seen any vile comments. Or, anything that was worse than Simon Cowell telling Michael Sarver that he wasn’t good enough to compete against the rest of the season 8 top ten. Or, Telling Kris during top 5 week that everybody else tried that week but him. Or, saying that people should be performing at an amusement park or cruise ship. She certainly didn’t say anything vile or mean to Devin during his time on the show.

  • elliegrll

BTW, even if she did, that’s no excuse for how bad this group has been this year. They have no strategy at all, and have not put a lot of thought into the songs that they have picked.

  • lovetheusa1776

Minaj is not THE problem, but, after reading these posts, she obviously is A problem – for many. What that means for the show and its ratings remains to be seen.

  • czt

I didn’t take it that way and by the look on her face, Kree seemed taken back by Minaj’s comment as well

  • Larc

Although Simon was far from ideal, he had firmly established his credibility as a judge. His word meant something. When he praised a performance, it carried weight. Nicki’s not there yet and very likely never will be.

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

Perhaps vile was to strong a word, but I can see how the “get off the stage” comment could really offend Devin or anyone. I also agree this cast is completely lackluster, outside of Candice and Janelle last week and Angie in Hollywood, there is no originality or creativity by this group. As for Simon I’m not one who thinks bad behavior justifies bad behavior. But maybe I’m reading this all wrong, because Nicki get paid a lot of money and maybe she’s doing what is asked of her and if that’s the case than shame on Idol for sinking to this level to create buzz :)

  • Axxxel

. Simon Cowell is a tough judge to please . Much tougher than Nicky. Only his british accent makes it a bit funny to listen to… and even though I don’t like Nicky’s music but she earns millions so she must do something right. Just keep Nicky off twitter…

  • Axxxel

I wonder how many years did it take Simon to learn to be a credible and mean judge… Nicky is just starting to learn how and she does it in the public eye.

  • Axxxel

“When Simon praises a performance, it carries weight…” Just say that to the judges last season who gave so many standing ovations… Remember the comments of people who felt that those judges are “too soft” and they were asking for a more honest judge ? They have to be careful what they wish for… Now there is Nicky and some people want to have the judges’ panel of last year back.

  • Axxxel

Of course Nicky is doing as told.. She is the mean judge, Randy is sometimes the mean judge as well, Keith is the smooth judge, who says the unpleasant feedback in a nice way, and Mariah is there for the contestants to comfort them while they are licking their wounds…

  • elliegrll

I’m sure that there are people who felt that Simon had credibility, and there were those who felt like he would say anything for the camera. The same goes for every judge. It’s all about making a good television show.

  • Axxxel

Simon Cowell, Mr “indulgent rubbish” !!???

  • elliegrll

Simon didn’t learn it, he was just copying Nigel Lythgoe’s performance from Pop Stars.

  • elliegrll

Saying that Nicki was upset, because she had on the same color dress as Mariah is speaking the truth? Saying that she was upset because she showed up on time was a sign that he was being gracious? I thought it was a sign that he was being bi**y.

If he felt that she was being unfair, why not address that, instead of taking cheap shots.

  • Axxxel

Copying is a form of learning… So if Simon copies from Nigel Lythgoe, then maybe Nicki should do that too….try to find her favorite mean judge and copy it here and there..

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

I meant in regards to also taking it to twitter, I know the judge dynamic :)

  • mjsbigblog

Well, it’s his truth. Just like some of the crazy things Nicki says is hers.

  • Axxxel

Maybe yes, maybe they don’t need to…

  • mason williams

it’s official, i’m voting burnell or lazaro just to spite nicki and break up her ”all girl top 5”

  • Rami H

I would hate to think they would use the save on Devin who has been in the bottom a lot and then next week someone like Candice or Kree goes home as a result.

  • yoyo

Lol, and you give me a ring when Devin and Mariah have a single topping the chart. Lmao.

  • yoyo

No one said her RACE makes her act the way she is. Just intelligent people know that RACE and GENDER effect the way people are perceived. It’s not that complicated honeybun.

  • yoyo

    Right and neither did nicki.

  • LeahKittyS

Okay, you have a point. I’m just being sentimental because he was my favorite of the boys.

  • LeahKittyS

Burnell, fine. Lazaro has enough support as it is.

  • http://twitter.com/MoranKTA flog gnaw

Same difference. She’s still an insufferable bitch; I could care less if she was Tom Cruise. If you run your big mouth, you deserve to be criticized.

  • merkureye

    Saves are BS

  • Axxxel

Like they were afflicted by Simon Cowell in the good old days.

  • EB

    Agreed, Miz!
I don’t know why they are expected/demanded to just hush up unless they are going to respect her, bow at her feet and say nothing but great things, and never, ever express how they truly feel. It is a little scary how the ‘Barbz’ seem to think… do they really believe she is a goddess or something? This cartoon-y pop artist and immature woman is like their religion.

To each their own but ay-yi-yi… I sure don’t get it. Rabid fanbases like this freak me out.

  • Axxxel

It does make a difference… the colour of lipstick is almost like the color of someone’s tie.

  • EB

I understand the double-standard attempting to be exposed here, but is Simon really relevant now?

He isn’t the problem anymore, he once was but is no longer. Now Nicki is.

  • Axxxel

    Gender does though…

  • Face

Randy as thought leader… major LULZ… maybe he will start his own cult?
btw, completely agree with your observations about judges, current and former…
I also can’t help but think that Devin knew exactly what he was doing with his twitter comments re: Nicki… and it appears to have worked…
even though he was Mr dull & boring on the show… and even though 95% of the western world (or at least those who watch and follow AI) knew he would be the one leaving this week (even before he sang, B3 twice already etc…)… he seems to have become Mr controversy post exit… and like you I think that can only help him… cause based on his AI performances no one was going to remember him come the May confetti shower…

  • Axxxel

Devin actually mentioned Nicki’s lateness.. and about her wearing the same dress as Mariah.. Two sore points for Nicki. So Devin is not that innocent. But Nicki could have en more thick skinned…

  • Axxxel

That is exactly what Nicki wants you to do…

  • Axxxel

I wish Devin was Mr Controversy ON the show…and not Mr Boring and too afraid to take risks and displease the audience and judges. It is too easy to be Mr Controversy backstage or behind a computer.

  • Axxxel

I am not a Nicki fan and I also hope that she can pulls it together…

  • Axxxel

Yeah, Nicki did a good job ! Making people more active and vote..

  • Axxxel

and last year , the “feel good “, hardly ever criticizing judges were the problem… from one extreme to another.. I guess…

  • Face

I wish any of them left would take that advise… be a bit more controversial… if that what it takes to give the season some energy and make the rest of it a bit more interesting…

  • Axxxel

She is the star who came late, as Devin pointed out..

  • Incipit

“Devin actually mentioned Nicki’s lateness.. and about her wearing the same dress as Mariah..”

Take another look at all the videos, Axxxel – she was NOT wearing the same dress, they were wearing the same color (red). Supposedly this was deliberate, to support the Same Sex Marriage issue being discussed at the supreme Court. Actually, it’s very hard to believe it wasn’t deliberate, each of them has staff who would have known what the other was wearing. I think this is all artificial buzz, because it wouldn’t be happening, especially on Devon’s part, if Idol didn’t want to allow it. The manipulation never ends with them…and I don’t buy into it. JMO.

  • Axxxel

True…same color of dress…I also thought it was on purpose…I started to think about artificial buzz as well after people on this thread said that they wanted to vote for a guy after Nicki’s rant about an all women top 5.

  • abbysee

    Thanks!

  • abbysee

The very idea that she’s earned the right to be an obnoxious rude bitch because she sold some records recently just boggles my brain.

This woman totally went overboard in her critiques of the boys and her slamming of Janelle. When she yelled at the boys to get off the stage yet dissolved into this big grin let me know that this was a game to her. It wasn’t a game to Devin who had come prepared and had been very professional in trying to save the sinking ship.

This debacle that has followed speaks to her lack of understanding and compassion for a child who was hurt and disappointed. So she can revel in her importance (believe me give it time her clock is ticking) but she needs to grow the hell up, she’ll wished she had handled this idol opportunity better than she has. Not because Devin is gonna be a big star, he probably wont, but because she squandered this opportunity for herself.

  • woodchuck25

This whole thing is hilarious, and I’m sure it’ll help ratings.

I personally didn’t watch this week but the drama swirling around Lazaro may get me to tune in next week. Sucks for Devin, if he had left Lazaro to fall on his ass, it would have been even more obvious to the casual public how unprepared he was and that might have been enough to sink him. Didn’t see Burnell stepping in to be the hero and he’s sitting pretty.

  • HKfan

I never felt Simon was really mean even when he said things like that, maybe its the differnce in body language. You can just tell by Nickis body language, facial expressions who she likes, who she doesn’t, and it comes across as much more personal and mean spirited from her.

  • justmefornow

This whole nonsense makes me shake my head.
Firstly I couldn’t care less about this Devin. He was about as exciting as watching the grass grow. 15 mins. over, glad we knew you.
Secondly, Nicki is an OTT character the that producers were fully aware of when they hired her so some of this shouldn’t be that surprising.

That being said, I find it ironic that with all the whining and complaining about having to have a girl winner and that the girls are held to a different standard, blah. blah, blah, that it’s exactly what is being done with Nicki.
Her recent behavior would be being blasted by everyone if she was a male judge; the rudeness, sexual comments to contestants, general ridiculous OT comments
( Steven Tyler not looking so bad now, lol ).
Waffles anyone? Just ridiculous nonsensical crap. STFU already.

I actually found her amusing when the show first started and thought she would be a breath of fresh air for an old show.
Now I find her annoying, childish, bias, sexist, rude and very low class .

Thanks Idol. Crappy contestants, crappier judge.

  • elliegrll

I’m not sure who said that selling a lot of records gave Nicki the right to be nasty. IMO, she hasn’t said anything on the panel that would fall under the headers of nasty or vile, or out of line with what some other judges have said..

Nicki’s grin told me that she was not delivered the get off the stage comment in a nasty way, but it’s not surprising that some would interpret it in that way.

For the most part, the media that has covered Nicki has labeled her as the best idol judge this season. So, I don’t think that she’s squandered this opportunity for those who were actually going to give her and her music a chance. That’s a huge contrast to what Devin did with his big opportunity.

BTW, Devin hasn’t achieved anything that would excuse his petty and nasty comments, either.

  • DragonFly

Whenever Simon made crass remarks about contestants he always backed down a little w/the audience’s booing, using a bit of the “bad boy” smirk on his face. Sometimes he was a little OTT in trying to bury or ridicule a contestant but he never REALLY lashed-out in ANGER at anyone like he was SO right like Nicki is doing. In fact, towards the end of his run, he even apologized to a cple that he was found to be a little heartless to. Maybe contrived again, but at least he was capable of it.

  • EB

His comment about the dress was meant tongue-in-cheek I’m sure. Nicki being late was an incredible show of irresponsibility on her part, making any respect some had gained for her as a judge disappear because it is so ridiculous. Even so, she got away with it basically scot-free so it doesn’t irritate me that he reference it.

What it comes down to for me, is that nothing he said was out of line to me. Could he have chosen not to say it? Sure, but I just don’t mind that he did. If Nicki never has to filter herself about anything or anyone, neither should he.

  • EB

Yes, I know. I really should have thrown in a :P at the end of the sentence or something. ;)

I don’t actually want her to return, but I agree with her about the save.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bug-Menot/100003601718986 Bug Menot

“LOL. Be mad at America…” Who said he was mad? Who said he should shower the “judges” with gifts for all that “they” did for him? Who said he was ungracious? Nicki. She let her 16M Twitter followers know she had a problem with him. Why? Because he gave answers she didn’t like when he was asked by others about her. If she had carried herself more professionally and treated all the contestants with respect, the responses would have been more to her liking.

What Devin had said about the save:

“…it was my place to go home yesterday. I think that they’re going to save “the save” for someone really, really special — not that I don’t think I’m special, but with all the talent that’s left, if someone is in the bottom two that doesn’t belong there just because they have one bad song day, I think that they should use that save on that person.”

You’ve expressed a lot of my feelings, especially regarding Nicki. However, I do believe there is a gem amongst the five girls. It is up to them to start shining, and hopefully Jimmy Iovine will provide much needed encouragement. I still prefer the celebrity judges.

How does that arguement work? Mariah’s more established than Nicki. So, in your scenario Nicki should have kept all her “realness” with Mariah to herself

Devin, Remember this is Reality TV first , a singing competition second, so LET IT GO. Also, can we find an alternative to the “Pee-Wee Herman” hairdo-??

“Also, can we find an alternative to the “Pee-Wee Herman” hairdo-??”

Bwahahaha! Good to know it wasn’t just me thinking that, ohrell. It’s too late now – but if Devin got to hang around long enough to get to a make-over, even a close brush w/a makeover, that would have been an improvement. I tended to listen to all of these guys sing rather than watch them perform, less distraction from the vocals…and “Pee Wee Herman Revisited” didn’t help there. Heh.

You’ve just put your finger on what’s basically wrong with Idol, IMO. It’s far too much reality show and far too little the talent contest it falsely advertises itself as. I definitely think much more of the latter and far less of the former would improve it drastically.

I HATE the fact? that the viewers don’t let the judges help these contestants. Nicki Minaj has been the ONLY HONEST judge this season. Harsh or not its the TRUTH. Do people really want her to tell every contestant they were amazing like Mariah just so because she wants everyone to like her? Is it even fair to the contestant themselves, because they won’t learn and when they mess up in real life, we are the same people to call them UNTALENTED and tell them to go “KILL THEMSELVES.” For once I agree with the haters, Nicki Minaj SHOULD definitely leave this show, its hurting her image. She is TOO REAL for this show. American Idol have had the same conservative, old, corny viewers who want all the judges to tell the contestants they are perfect and nothing else and thats y Nicki Minaj WILL NEVER? be accepted because she doesn’t cut out for it. She tells the world’s HARSH TRUTH. She is just trying to prepare them for the HARSH world, cuz people are so HATEFUL ask Nicki herself.

I’m sorry, I disagree that Simon was always credible. He had his own agenda and sometimes was just plain mean.

  • Axxxel

If you feel that Simon is not always credible as a judge and sometimes just plain mean.. then it means that Nicki is not really that much different from SImon Cowell ….. the only difference is that she is much more dressed up than he is.

I love Burnell too! Why can’t you vote for him?

    True!
