Nicki Minaj refused to comment on whether she’s set to become an American Idol judge or not on the VMA Red Carpet last night, but she did have a few interesting things to say to Access Hollywood about whether she’d be a good judge or not:

“I’ve never imagined myself as a judge because I tend to think everyone’s amazing – like even the crazy contestants, I always love them because, you know, they’re memorable,” she said. “So, I don’t know.”

Asked if she’d turn down an offer from “American Idol,” Nicki remained coy.

“People have made me offers that I’ve turned down before,” she added.

Wait. No. Nicki, you are supposed to be the crazy judge who doesn’t care what anybody thinks! You can’t love everybody, or you really will suck. I’m counting on YOU Nicki.

BTW, the attempt to deflect the gossip isn’t working! There’s too much chatter out there for us to believe that you really turned American Idol down…

It is easy for Nicki to talk like this before the auditions.. I wonder what she would say after seeing hundreds of trainwrecks who were pulled through just in the name of entertainment….

  • callmecrazy

Agreed.  I just think the whole musical judges that has been happening has been a detterent from the show itself.

Good ol’ uncle Nigel…of whom I have a love/hate thing for.

The way everyone is talking, maybe the best scenario would be for X Factor to fail. Then AI can hire Simon back next year. He’s not a nice guy but, lets face it, he has no trouble telling someone they suck. That seems to be hard for most judges to do. And it’s something that almost every viewer thinks is in too short supply.

Which is the fundamental problem I have with X Factor – judges are incented to diss talented performers because they are backed by other judges. No singer/judge worth their salt will pretend that a good singer is a bad one or vice versa.

I watched the UK season that Joe McElderberry won because I knew it was coming to the US and I was curious (watched it online via this websie actually.) Jedward was on that year. Olly came second. I remember the contestants but I also remember the machinations of the judges. Hated it.

Disliked Simon in particular because I knew when he was being disingenuous

LOL! At one point I was thinking that Kara DiGuardi would look good.

he has no trouble telling someone they suck.

Unless their names are Lee Dewyze, Carmen Rasmussen, Simone, or Tiah, lol.

Hahaha why is she trying to sound like she’s an avid fan of the show? A few months ago, she was asked what she thought of Jessica Sanchez and her answer was “I don’t know who that is.”. So clearly she doesn’t watch the show and she only wants to be a judge because she’s being offered millions of dollars. I can’t blame her though. I wouldn’t turn down that offer.

“All four Judges will just sit there like Steven and JLo and say
beautiful, give standing ovations and collect pay check and yes promote
     their music,”

I sure hope not, but this is the danger in having artists as judges who are far more interested in promoting their careers than judging a glorified karaoke contest. And who can blame them? This is why I was in favor of having industry types and NOT artists as judges.

I’m not a fan of Nigel, but I must admit that his tweets amuse me.

Well yes on Lee Dewyze but my theory is that Simon was mailing it in or punking Idol on Season 9 to lay the groundwork for his own show. That year was horrible for so many reasons (Imho the 4 judges arrangement gets a bum rap because of Season 9. It worked fine in Season 8.)

At least, within the confines of his own taste, he was honest. He was judging and so was Kara DiGuardi, who no one liked but me, apparently.

    You have to have a b*tch on the panel – a judgy b*tch; not a b*tchy b*tch.

Definitely agree with the first comment. Two very laid back guys with two volatile ladies. If these ladies turn into steamrollers, the guys in the audience might find it maddening that there’s no one to push pack.

But I am never watching the Voice – it isn’t my cup of tea. And the X Factor will only me if they have a couple of hilarious Jedward type acts mixed in with the really good singers.

The contestants are the main thing for me. So much so that I have tuned out of Idol in Top 4 and Top 3 episodes in the past because my favourites were booted. Did not see the confetti fall for P2 or Scotty. Those two guys are amiable and talented but the thrill was gone.

I liked Kara, too.  And I think you’re right about Simon in Season 9.

But there was a big problem with 4 judges in Season 8.  The show kept running overtime.  That shouldn’t be a problem with two hour performance shows.

I will not believe  that the judges are set until I hear it from FOX. Nicki still has a tour booked in the UK and Australia that will last  until December. Pepsi is the tour sponsor. She will burn bridges if she takes an Idol gig. Anyone who thinks that she will bring viewers to AI will be disappointed. She has a different demographic. Not the kind that want to watch kids sing. Without Adam Lambert, with all of the teasing that he might be a judge, American Idol is over. The ratings will plunge because of disenfranchised older, reliable fans who also love Adam. It will be another insult on top of the voting fiasco.

I agree with you. Simon praised Lee and gave him his song to sing as a final FU to American Idol.  PS -  4 judges did not work during Season 8. Remember how many times they went overtime? Adam’s Mad World and Simons one and only standing ovation on the show was missed by those who recorded the show.
