US Magazine reports that Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were in talks to join The Voice spring cycle:

Before Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj signed the dotted line on their American Idol contracts, they considered taking seats on The Voice’s stage alongside Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

A show source tells Us Weekly that both the legendary vocalist and the “Starships” rapper were in talks to join The Voice as team coaches, as producers searched for artists to replace Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green. (Show insiders confirmed to Us Monday that neither coach will take part in the hit show’s upcoming season, while also revealing that Usher and Shakira have signed on to take their places.)

I wonder why Mariah and Nicki ultimately went with Idol?

Interesting. You gotta wonder if there would have been near as much negative reaction over Nicki joining the Voice panel :) Probably not, as its only wrong when idol does it :P

Must have saw how hard the Voice ratings went crashing down after the blind auditions.

About a month ago a reporter asked the president of NBC about rumors that they were trying to hire Mariah Carey.  It’s funny that that news was floating around, but the press either didn’t think that it was true, or they didn’t care.

American Idol has the better reputation, higher ratings, may be more stable, and Fox can offer more money plus extra bonuses.

I actually would have preferred Nicki on the Voice than Idol. She might be over-the-top, but she’s also very talented and creative, and it would have been interesting to see her working with the different contestants.

Easy.  They didn’t want to settle for 2nd or 3rd best.  :)

With the Voice churning out two seasons a year and no stars, it probably feels a little less special.

Still, I bet the biggest reason is the announcement that the Original 4 can take a season or two off and still get their turning chair back whenever the want it. Mariah and Nikki are not seat warmers to be shuffled off when the owner wants their chair back. They will want to arrive and leave on their own terms.

Yes, and the ratings crashing in the live rounds probably doesn’t help either.

Money money money money, MONEY! I am sure that is the primary reason why they both signed with Idol. Of course when Mariah signed she thought that she would be the only Diva on the panel. Now that she will have to compete with Nicki, I wonder if she regrets passing on The Voice. I do think that Mariah is a better fit for Idol and Nicki would have been good on/for The Voice. Oh well, it doesn’t matter now. Plus, aren’t both shows supposed to be about the contestants and not the judges? Snerk.

I think I would be accepting of Nicki if I at least liked her.  I hope one day I’ll be able to write that she is a good judge.

$$$$$…..and they need a career boost — both of them, esp. Mariah.  People don’t know this but she and Jlo were rivals at one time…Jlo allegedly stole a song Mariah was supposed to record….anyway, I’m sure Mariah saw what Idol did for JLO and wanted the same….although I don’t see it happening, because Mariah has never been known for her “stage” performances.
