Nicki Minaj and Enrique Iglesias More Sources Confirm Idol Talks

More sources have surfaced to confirm Nicki Minaj and Enrique Iglesias are in talks to join the American Idol judges’ panel.

The Associated Press reports:

A person close to Minaj said Monday the 29-year-old entertainer has been in talks to judge the Fox TV competition and that a deal is in the works. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because that person was not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.

And People magazine reports:

Meanwhile, a source tells PEOPLE that Enrique Iglesias, who is currently on tour with departing judge Jennifer Lopez, is being considered for the show, which also lost Steven Tyler after season 11.

“Idol has expressed a lot of interest but no final word on either side yet,” a source tells PEOPLE of the “I Like It” singer, 36.

US Magazine reported pretty much the same news yesterday. Could we end up with a panel made up of Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey (I think the TMZ report may be exaggerated), Brad Paisley or Keith Urban and Enrique Iglesias?

    I think Nicki, Enrique, Brad/Keith, and Pharrell are ahead of Adam on the wish list. And for good reason.

    If they’re looking for latino judges, Shakira and Ricky Martin would be the best choices.

    I’d cosign that. I don’t know if it would necessarily help her judge but outside her many musical accomplishments, she’s proven committed to education, including her own, and I don’t think it’s just PR puffery that she’s a really intelligent woman. I’m for that on the panel.

    I agree with you that I don’t want Enrique. I saw him on the XF & he was a terrible mentor. However, if he becomes an Idol judge I think it will be ok as long as the others are good judges & takes away the attention from him as being a bad judge.

    The problem with Steven Tyler was he was a bad judge & so were the others on the panel. If the other judges are good, than Enrique on the panel as a bad judge wouldn’t be as noticeable.

    Umm this is so ridiculous it’s like if you can sing you’ve been in talks w/ Idol. It doesn’t matter about gender, age or genre if you can breath and utter a peep TPTB have walked up to you and said ” Hey, you, me, Idol how about it?” There are just too many people in “talks” w/ Idol for all the possibilities to be taken seriously.

    I just hope they can live up to the expectations and land at least one other big name besides Mariah or else it’s gonna be a disappointment like US X-factor was last year. You can’t throw top tier judge possibilities out there and then roll out the D/C list.

    MARIAH CAREY – CONFIRMED SHE IS THERE ALREADY. NO NEED TO ASK WHY.
    2. FOR COUNTRY AND SOUTHERN-TARGETED-AUDIENCE MUSIC
    BRAD PAISLEY – IDOL HAS A BIG AUDIENCE IN THE SOUTH AND COUNTRY MUSIC LIKE CARRIE UNDERWOOD AND SCOTTY MCCREERY. PLUS HE IS FUNNY AT CONCERTS.
    3. FOR MAINSTREAM EITHER YOUNGER DEMOGRAPHIC OR A LATIN ARTIST 
    PROBABLY EITHER MILEY CYRUS OR SHAKIRA. IT SHOULD BE A GIRL SO IT WILL BE 2-2 FOR BOYS AND GIRLS. IF YOU WOULD ASK ME I WOULD LIKE TO BE SHAKIRA SINCE SHE IS LATIN POP TO KEEP IT MORE DIVERSE. I MEAN I THINK SOME OF HER SONGS AND CURRENT MARIAH CAREY SONGS ARE SO MAINSTREAM AND ATTRACTS YOUNGER DEMOGRAPHIC AS WELL WHO LOVE POP MUSIC SO MUCH SO I GUESS TO NO NEED FOR A YOUNG JUDGE.

    Why is it a problem that they are talking to a lot of people?  I’d rather they thought the situation out, and weigh how well the different prospects would interact with one another.  The contestants are the most important people on the show, but the judges play a huge role.

     I agree, just look at Paula lol (loved her, but she only worked because there was other judges who to do the “dirty work”).

    From the names they spilled, the ones I can see being “blunt” are Brad, Nicki and Diddy.

    I approve of this panel but if I had my way:

    1. Pop/RnB: I would’ve gotten Beyonce instead of Mariah
    2. Country: I like Brad Paisely but ultimately I would’ve chosen Keith Urban as he’s better known outside the country world
    3. Latin Pop: Shakira
    4. Pop Rock: I would’ve nabbed Billy Joel Armstrong before The Voice could

    I wouldn’t say she can’t sing but her voice is definitely an acquired taste. She sounds better in Spanish and especially in Arabic.

    I don’t thnk he’d be any more distracting than JLo was. She was ridiculously gorgeous, and I would look forward to her what she was wearing  each night.

    Enrique is good eye candy but if there is any possibility of them selecting more interesting male judges, I would appreciate that.

    Yes, I definitely would like Ricky Martin along with a Country guy (Brad or Keith).  But then, I am not jumping for joy at the thought of Nicki being a judge.
