Nick Mitchell on “Better Connecticut” – VIDEO

Top 36 American Idol Season 8 contestant, Nick Mitchell, appeared as a guest on the “Better Connecticut” show with Scott Haney.

Nick recounts trying out for Idol as his sketch character “Normund Gentle” and how he never thought he’d make it past the judges in a million years.

He also admits to some post-idol letdown, but is looking forward to working on his career–he’s moving out to LA in 2 weeks.

He tells Haney he’ll be free from Idol’s contractual clutches in August.

    Go Nick! He’s funny and smart. I think he’s gonna do fine in LA. In an interview, Adam said he was sorriest to see him not make the final cut. He said the guy was unbelievably nice. Go Nick!

    HEY go back now and watch him.I think you will find it funny now.Adam loved him having the guts to do that.Hmmmm comes to LA in 2 weeks finale time.Wouldnt shock me to see him on it.

    Good for Nick/Normund!

    I hope we do get to see him at the Finale – I think a healthy majority of Idol old timers expect him to get a cameo on the show.

    He’s not to everyone’s taste, but he is quite clever and he added a lot of comic relief while he was on the show. Of course, it did tick me off a bit that they gave him a spot over someone actually deserving of a shot at a singing competition.

    I’m not surprised that he’s tied up by Idol until the end of August. The son of a friend of mine made it to Hollywood week in Season 5 but didn’t make the cut. He was never even seen on the show. It shocked me that even after the show was over he still couldn’t even perform with his Christian Rock band at a (Catholic) church fair. The contract irritated his parents to no end.

    Off topic – the kid told me to watch for a grey haired guy who in his opinion deserved to take it all. I thought he was nuts at the time.

    Oh sweet jesus but I love Norman, Normund, Nick. I miss him, I didnt know how much. He’s absolutely adorable.

    I know he had a voice beneath all that camp. I wish I had the chance to hear it.

    His mom is my age, well, that was a bit of a downer but he’s so affable. I loved when he said his mother said…”Nick, get out of the basement already”. Bwahahahahahaha.

    Scott Haney’s always been our favorite weather guy here in CT. Channel 3 is the Hartford CBS affiliate. Nick has also done a couple of AI “wraps on the 10 p.m. Fox News local affiliate on Tuesday and Wednesday nights along with promoting the sweepstakes for the finale show sweepstakes they are running.

    I was so proud to find out when Nick made it to the Top 36 that his was from our state. It was even cooler to find out that his family lives only about 25 miles from me. I wish Nick a lot of luck and hope he finds what he’s looking for in L.A. If not and he comes back here, I look forward to going to see him perform in NYC.
