Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams In Talks To Become American Idol Judges?

Here are the latest rumors on who will join Mariah Carey at the American Idol judges table, courtesy of US Magazine:

“Who I Am” singer Nick Jonas, 19, and N.E.R.D. rapper Pharrell Williams, 39, are the frontrunners to fill the two vacant seats at the judges’ table, multiple insiders tell Us Weekly. (Jackson, 56, is being moved into a “mentoring role,” according to a source.)

“Nick is pretty close to signing to be the Idol judge,” one insider says. “They flew him in to L.A. last week for final meetings.”

If this is true, Nick would take care of the younger demographic. I would hope he would be better than his brother, Joe, who guest judged during Season 9.  Most of what he had to say appeared to be left on the cutting room floor.

Pharrell could fill the role of the industry insider. But I have no idea if he could handle critiquing contestants on live TV. I REALLY think the panel NEEDS a producer/manager/A&R type to dole out the tough love.

Brad Paisley is rumored to be meeting with Idol execs this week. A country guy on the panel would make a ton of sense, considering that Idol has always had a strong southern base of viewers AND winners. I’m surprised they didn’t dip from that well earlier.
