Elliott has one of the best voices ever to come out of Idol. Glad to see he’s gotten the chance to continue making music. Compare Elliott’s version of A Song For You to Heejun’s, and you’ll find that there really is no comparison because Elliott’s is just perfect.

Description of EY’s new album from SoulTracks, which gives it a “Recommended” review:

    http://www.soultracks.com/elliott-yamin-lets-get-to-whats-real-review

“The disc opens with “Gather Round,” an
upbeat jam that sounds like the offspring of Sam Cooke’s “Having a
    Party.”…The voice may
sound familiar this time around, but little else will….The disc covers
broad territory, ranging from Elton John mid-70s piano-driven pop
(“Virginia“) to edgy, wah wah-filled urban soundscapes (“Downtown”), to
horn-drenched funk (“Thinkin’ Bout You”) to blue-eyed soul (“Enough
Love”) to classic blue-lights-in-the-basement balladry (“Let’s Get To
What’s Real”).  There are only a few songs that would have been out of
place on the AM dial 40 years ago, the most important of which is “3
Words,”…but it is such a strong song and so well performed that it ends up being a welcome addition.”

Went and listened to Elliott’s “A Song for You.” Sorry, he has a nice voice, but it doesn’t grab me. The vocals might be better and the enunciation clearer, but I prefer Heejun’s version because when he sings, I believe every single word. And there’s something else, I can’t quite put my finger on it, but maybe it’s the tone, that for me is way above average.

Streaming Elliot’s album right now, and loving it. Too bad it isn’t already available and fair game for this week’s Idol theme. I can see Joshua performing the song called Virginia.

I love Elliott’s current single ’3 Words.’ The video is pointless, but I love the song! I know his fans are split between those who want soul music and those who want pop. I probably lean toward the latter, but he does both genres so well, I really don’t care which, just as long as he keeps recording and performing. He’s phenominal!

I like both Elliott’s (many, and different every single time) *and* Heejun’s versions of A Song for You. They both are way expressive, to me, just in different styles.

But then I like Joe Cocker’s, Dusty Springfield’s, Karen Carpenter’s, Leon Russell’s, Donny Hathaway’s, Marc Broussard’s, Simply Red’s, Willie Nelson’s, and *other* people’s versions, as well. lol

I mean, it’s a great song, and a song that needs to be done with feeling. Which is what all the artists you have mentioned, plus Heejun and Elliott has done.

I hope Idol will bring back Elliott to perform. This album is so good.

I haven’t been the greatest Elliott fan even though S5 is my favorite all time season – the talent and personalities were just so deep and enjoyable that year – but this album is awesome!  It’s had me dancing all over my office this morning.  Elliott always had that blue-eyed soul/ r&b vibe just oozing from him – I love it.

’I hope Idol will bring back Elliott to perform. This album is so good.’

I have a feeling that, with Jimmy around, the chances of bringing back an Idol on an indie label who has no ties whatsoever to anything Universal — and is an alum from six years back who’s now singing very throw-backy stuff — are slim to none. Would love them to prove me wrong, though!

I think the only shot Elliott has of coming back to Idol is if Nigel has some lingering love for him.  It would really be great.

This album is probably one of the best I have heard from any idol, musically, lyrically, PERIOD.  It just grabs a hold and won’t let go!! Anyone that hasn’t heard Elliott live, I am telling you, YOU MUST. If he tours for this album he is going to KILL IT live!! No one vocally live has given me the chills that his voice has.

Great album!  Elliott has really grown as an artist, this is first rate stuff.  He and Durbin have always been my two favorite artists from AI.

Hmmm Elliot + Joshua…I like it. I’m thinking “Poison” would be a good choice for Joshua…it would be a nice change of pace for him. :)

Love every song on Elliott’s new album. So happy for him!

I am so happy to hear such a positive response to Elliott, it makes me want to cry. I also want to cry because he will very likely not be coming on idol to perform. This man is so underrated it is a freaking shame. His album is fantastic, top to finish. I am just in love with Elliott’s music and his voice, and will remain my #1 favourite idol of all time. :D

And for a gospel edge, Joshua would be ah-mazing, with I’ll Be That Bridge. Could not stop playing that song!
