At one point it looked like there was going to be a serious attempt to promote Chris Rene, but I guess that passed.

    Scotty just tweeted:
@ScottyMcCreery: Pre orders for Christmas with Scotty are now up on iTunes! So yall go check it out here http://t.co/ckUMJKXF

I just went on iTunes to see if it was charting yet. Well it wasn’t on the all genres top 300 (as high as it would go). But it is at #78 on the country album charts! And Scotty only tweeted this about 40 minutes ago. McCreerians work fast! And what’s also awesome, even though I LOVE Blake Shelton, his Christmas album was nowhere on the top 300 country albums. His others were but not that one. Weird cause his you actually get the songs right now, Scotty’s you don’t. And there’s no previews and people are still buying. Hoping for big sales for him!!

Blake’s album isn’t labeled under country it’s under holiday, and it is #35 on the overall album charts.

I wonder who decided to label Blake’s album under holiday on iTunes. If they labeled it country, I can see more people buying it & realizing it’s available now.

Scotty’s album is under country on iTunes which will get more people to buy his album than just labeling it under holiday albums.

I wonder who decided to label Blake’s album under holiday on iTunes. If they labeled it country, I can see more people buying it & realizing it’s available now.

Eh, when all the country radio DJs are chattering about “Blake Shelton’s Christmas album comes out today! It’s only October 2!”, the iTunes classification becomes picayune. I’m sure the number of people who listen to country radio is greater than the number of people who consult the genre-specific iTunes charts to choose what to buy.

(My same DJs did not consider McCreery’s pre-order to be news. The station reluctantly got on board for ILYTB but otherwise hasn’t shown interest in him.)

Well then it appeared out of nowhere cause I didn’t see it. I don’t even have a holiday albums list?

  • beck1982

    Oh and it’s #45 now :)

I realize that Blake is the bigger star & will get more media coverage for his Christmas album than Scotty. He should. He’s a big country star. Scotty’s a new country artist.

I’m just wondering why put it under the holiday listing when they can put it under country & get more sales. Even if he’s a big star, the label should want to get as many sales as possible.

Actually, I’m wondering if it can be put in both the holiday & country category on iTunes for both Blake & Scotty. Or can albums only be categorized under 1 category on iTunes?

I’m just wondering why put it under the holiday listing when they can put it under country & get more sales. Even if he’s a big star, the label should want to get as many sales as possible.

Y’know, when I look at the album listings online in iTunes, I’m seeing both McCreery’s and Shelton’s albums listed as both Country and Holiday. So it looks as if both are classified identically. How that translates to internal charting, who knows, but iTunes entire charting algorithm is a weird mystery.

ETA: Scratch that. McCreery is NOT under Holiday, but Shelton is under both Holiday and Country. My. Reading. Skills. Suck.

In that context, I’d say the mistake was to not also put McCreery under Holiday. That’s a category that people may eventually look for specifically.

    Thanks for the info.

Blake’s at a point where people are going to search for his album based on his name.

  • ptebwwong

Obviously, Blake has a bigger name. He’s a big country star. His albums have all went gold. But none of his albums have ever went platinum which you might expect considering his last album had many #1 hits & he was already on The Voice as a judge.

Blake is a single seller than a album seller. I’m not sure he’s going to sell as many albums as people think.
