New Music: The Voice’s Owen Danoff and Paxton Ingram

This week, two singers that competed on The Voice season 10 have released new records.

Owen Danoff, the son of songwriter Bill Danoff who was a member of 70’s vocal group, Starland Vocal Band. Owen’s father also wrote Bob Denver’s hit, “Country Roads,” among other hits of the era.

Paxton Ingram was season 10’s little engine that could, advancing week after week despite criticism and low iTunes sales. Predicting his elimination was never a safe bet–he made it all the way to the semifinals.

If you’re a fan of 70’s era folk rock, you’re going to appreciate Owen’s new EP, Love on Your Side. The set of songs displays Owen’s songwriting skills and gift for melody, supported by strong backup musicians. “By Your Side” reminded me of vintage Jackson Browne.

If Owen, a Team Adam Levine member, had been able to find songs that played to his strengths, he would have gone much farther in the competition.

Paxton Ingram – Sober (Single)

Paxton’s optimism and sunny personality helped him go far in the competition. As an unlikely member of Team Blake Shelton, Paxton’s strongest performance came the week he busted out a gospel tune.

But with the new song, “Sober,” Paxton proves he can handle contemporary R&B quite ably. Check it out below.
