New Music: Lauren Alaina, JAX, Kelly Clarkson, Dia Frampton

Check out new music from American Idol’s Lauren Alaina, JAX and Kelly Clarkson, plus a new single from The Voice singer Dia Frampton.

Lauren Alaina – Road Less Traveled (Album)

American Idol 10 runner-up, Lauren Alaina releases her long-awaited sophomore album. The title track, “Road Less Traveled” was co-written with hit-maker Meghan Trainor and has entered the Top 15 on the country radio airplay chart. The young singer chronicles her life honestly–from the break of of her parents marriage, her dad’s alcoholism and her own struggle with bulimia.

The singer also needed vocal surgery in 2014. She talked to Billboard about coming back after her surgery: “I would hear parts and sing them in my head voice. He’d be like, ‘You can hit that,’ and I’d be like, ‘No, I can’t,’ and then I’d hit it. It was crazy. I didn’t realize how much my voice had grown until I got into the studio and I started hitting notes like the big one in ‘Road Less Traveled.’ ”

JAX – Funny (EP)

Like Lauren, American Idol 14 alum JAX survived setbacks, which also fueled her songwriting. After finishing 3rd on Idol in 2015, she began recording and playing gigs. But then the singer suffered a total physical collapse, which turned out to be thyroid cancer. After surgery and treatment, JAX was back on her feet–literally. She ran and finished the New York City Marathon. Her six song EP Funny deals with love, struggle, and the aftermath of the reality show experience.

From a recent interview with Billboard:

While some songs were written “a while ago,” Jax says that “most of the writing process came after my diagnosis.” The single “Stars” — written with Nash Overstreet of Hot Chelle Rae and Nashville singer-songwriter Sidnie Tipton — addresses her health and captures her journey by describing how one can find light in the darkest hours, with the lyrics like “stars can’t shine without darkness.” The rest of the EP chronicles the rest of that journey, along with songs she laughs over being “kind of whiny or bitching about boys.”
