Wondering what Larry Platt’s epic song “Pants on the Ground” would sound like, if say, Neil Young covered it?

If so, you’re in luck!

Jimmy Fallon performed the ditty last night on his talk show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and his Neil Young impression is so spot on, you’ll think you’re actually listening to the rock legend pay tribute to American Idol’s newest media sensation.

Check out the hilarity after the jump.

Thanks MJ! It’s totally hilarious. And scarily not bad. Good job Jimmy!

Is there a new SNL this weekend because General Larry Platt must make an appearance on it!

  • auntieaimee

    *slow clap for Jimmy*

  • maturin

That’s a damn good Neal Young imitation

  • LoveDaRocker

    Hope proper royalties were paid.

  • heidijoy

Yea for Jimmy. He’s hilarious. I’m actually enjoying his show more than the rest of the Late night hosts. He is like a little kid that is thrilled to see his guests. maybe he could take over the Tonight show.

I sure hope the General has a copyright for this song !! And whatever you may think of Simon, he is so often right with his predictions. I thought, oh no, when he said that he was afraid this song could actually be a hit. And once again, could he be right?

My 16 yr old son came running in the house last night saying he heard “Pants on the Ground” played twice on the radio in his car. The DJ played the General’s version and then played a remix right after it. All his friends are talking about it and listening to it on You Tube. He wants to make it his ring tone on his cellphone.

Love Jimmy…He also did this with the Fresh Prince theme song a while back.

  • sonyab

Wow that is great!!!! :) Impressive.

  • calimari

Fantastic. I wonder if this will be bigger than “I am your brother”?

  • LaRue

I’m not a Fallon fan because I hate how he laughs at his own jokes and his interviewing style leaves much to be desired. However, if he did more of this sort of thing, I could be converted. That was really good.

  • wjmtv

    Brilliant.

  • Mary102

OMG – that was so awesome! HI-LARIOUS, and truly spot on impression. Brilliant cover to a brilliant song :-)

  • J9BT

Fantastic. I wonder if this will be bigger than “I am your brother”?

    I believe it already is.

  • zuper

The General had better leave his schedule open on March 17th. I believe he will have a performance to do.

  • Kirsten

Idol has it’s first water cooler moment of the season.

Jimmy did a really good Neil impersonation.

  • CRB

Fallon’s karaoke with Amy Adams last week was hilarious too. His interviews are clearly awful but he has his moments.

  • SharB

didn’t get a chance to see the audition, but I’ve seen the clips. this was really funny!!!!! Yes I do think the General has a hit on his hands. Hopes he’s getting paid.

  • Pam

The general’s audition definitely tops “I Am Your Brother”! The Neil Young impersonation by Fallon is awesome! Hee

  • revcat

Jimmy did an awesome job! Maybe he should sing more and talk less? I loved him in that old music video, can’t remember exact title but he was the “idiot boyfriend”…

  • TwigLA

This was awesome and spot on. I really like Jimmy Fallon and his show, much more so than Dave, Jay, and Conan.

I hope the General is getting some coin out of this.

  • rayni

Yeah, Jimmy should be an entertainer not an interviewer. He was born for this stuff.

  • LoveDaRocker

I sure hope the General has a copyright for this song !!

Copyright attaches once you record in some tangible form (which in this case could be the recording of the audition, if there is no other earlier recording). You need to register with the Copyright Office in order to sue, but you can do that after someone infringes (some limitations apply if you sue after registering).

  • BootStar

I sure hope the General has a copyright for this song !!

I sure hope Simon Cowell didn’t buy it from him before that show aired this week.

Fallon is absolutely brilliant on this. (Trugs was great too!)

  • HappyDaisy

I watched this last night with great admiration and had no idea it was Jimmy Fallon! Then I changed the channel or fell asleep. I thought it was Neil Young.

Does this leave me “lookin’ like a fool?” Well, at least my pants are not on the ground.

  • oceana

Wow, really sounds like Neil Young. Kudos to Fallon. I think I might start watching him. I saw him earlier today joking about the late night feud and thought he was funny.

And whatever you may think of Simon, he is so often right with his predictions. I thought, oh no, when he said that he was afraid this song could actually be a hit. And once again, could he be right?

Except it was so obvious, I had the same thought, and probably a zillion other people did too. Shades of William Hung. So it didn’t make Simon special :)

the funniest thing was Chelsae Lately last night, they were dishing about Elton John maybe replacing Simon, and the show becoming so gay that it made Glee look like Monday Night Football. Cute. And they made a funny joke about Ryan but I won’t repeat it. They’re so politically incorrect on that show, yet hilarious sometimes. Though I love Elton John and would be curious to see him on the show, I’m not sure if middle America is ready for quite that much gaity on one show, the thought crossed my mind too. Interesting possibility though!

Oh, I adore Jimmy Fallon ! I don’t care if he isn’t that great of an interviewer; maybe he’ll grow to be one.
His sketches are so much fun and I’ll never forget his Diet Pepsi commercial. Thanks for posting this, MJ

  • hoosiermama

Thanks for posting this MJ. I told my hubby about it and he had to see it. He laughed as much as I did. Excellent impersonation!

I remember Kris saying that of all the media interviews he did post-win, that he enjoyed Jimmy’s the most. He must be doing something right!

  • sunny2

That impression was amazing. I would of thought that was really Neil Young. Looked like Jimmy was really playing the guitar and harmonica as well. Great job Jimmy!!!

  • justjude

If I’d seen that on Jimmy Fallon, I, too could “almost” be fooled for a
    little while!!!
So, I never thought that Jimmy did terrible interviews. He is sometimes a little awkward but never terrible!

William Hung, I read somewhere made a substantial amount of money off his cover……and if he got hooked up. I’m sure the General Larry Platt will make a Bundle!! Simon is frequently right!

Pants OnThe Ground WILL in my opinion be an actuall phenom. Maybe, this was Kara’s SuBo like moment that she mentioned few days ago??
I think there are a couple of generations that will really get behind that Old General of the Civil Rights Movement,…….the middle aged and the golden olds , as well as the quite young. Gangsta pants and tude is so OVER,……………….SO GET YOUR PANTS OFF THE GROUND!!

  • jessabean

outstanding!! He really sounds like Neil Young. ROFLMAO!
