NBC Notes: Kelly Clarkson Christmas Details, The Voice Live Playoff Dates and More

NBC announced mid-season premier dates today for new show, Dick Wolf’s Chicago PD (a spin of of Chicago Fire) and the returning Community. Newly cancelled shows (BEAR CHOW) are the reboot of Ironsides, featuring Blair Underwood and the comedy Welcome to the Family starring Mike O’Malley (Who is now totally free to play the Greatest Dad in the World on Glee!)

The Kelly Clarkson Christmas special has a date, December 11. According to another release, it will be based loosely on Charles Dickens’ classic novel “A Christmas Carol.” During the course of the yet untitled special, Kelly’s character will learn about the true meaning of Christmas.

ETA: The Kelly Clarkson Billboard cover story reports the name of the special is Kelly Clarkson’s (Cautionary) Christmas Tale and will be part comedy and part musical performances.  “I love [the Will Ferrell movie] ‘Elf,'” Kelly said. “I wanted to tell a real story, make a new classic, not just do some skits that aren’t really related.” It also will feature performances from Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood and Ronnie Dunn.

Also notable: The Voice will air 3 times during the first week of live shows, beginning with The Live Playoffs The Top 20 Part 1 on Monday November 4, Part 2 on Tuesday November 5 and The Results on Thursday November 7 (9/8 pm) (Airing opposite Glee on FOX. Grr).

As previously reported, The Sing Off will begin a 7 epiosde run on December 9. And the Carrie Underwood-helmed, Sound of Music airs on December 5.
