It’s the beginning of the end for Smash.

NBC is moving its struggling musical drama to Saturday nights at 9 p.m. starting April 6, the network announced on Wednesday.   Moving a series to a Friday or Saturday is usually a prelude to cancellation. The entire 17 episode season WILL run, according to the network.

Ratings for the show have been dismal since it returned to the schedule in February. At the moment the key demo is under 1.0.   The show seemed doomed from the start.  While critics loved the Season 1 pilot, the show eventually became the butt of jokes.  The original show runner, Theresa Rebeck and a number of cast members were replaced for Season 2, but it was too little too late.

Ah Smash. we hardly knew ye.  Hopefully Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle and Megan Hilty can move on quickly to other projects.

    :(

In other words, we’d rather use The Voice lead in ratings bump for a show we might keep next year.

Except they are putting on that dating show hosted by Eva Longoria. Like that won’t be an epic fail.

    Dead show walking. . . .

I hope the writers wrote a series finale instead of the show just ending.. Although I missed couple of episodes.. It’s getting hard to watch

Sorry that a show with such creativity must make way for another reality show.

Curtain call: @NBCSmash is moving to Saturday at 9 pm, starting 4/6. All 17 eps will air, but what will we hate watch next?

    Ouch….

  • HermeticallySealed

Meh, it was their own fault for squandering any potential the show had.

  • breakdown

It had potential but too bad it turned out to be a horrible show.

Since I am a fan of the show, I will miss it ending. Saturday is a death trap, but some use DVR’s or Infinity One. There is so much talent on this show.

This makes me sad. I really like this show. Thank goodness for DVRs.

Bummed about the demise of Smash. The Jimmy character is so unlikeable and there is not enough of Megan Hilty in my opinion. I never saw the vision of Karen as Marilyn.

Feel bady for Megan Hilty who is mega talented!
Kate’s acting skills are non existent – she has no passion even in her singing.

Too bad. I was thinking of a drinking game for Smash. Remember “Bob?” When you did a shot every time someone said “Bob” on Bob Newhart?

Yeah, so for Smash, you do a shot every time Kat has no facial expression.
( I mean really. Did she Botox her cheeks or what? )

I’ll still watch it until the bitter end. I just love Megan Hilty. Love love love her.

I loved all of season 1, watched it so much even my husband knows some of the tunes now. I hate to admit that the second season was a little meh. What were they thinking??? The move to Wednesday is the begining of the end for sure.
