NBC Moves Smash to Saturdays Beginning April 6 (Death Watch)

It’s the beginning of the end for Smash.

NBC is moving its struggling musical drama to Saturday nights at 9 p.m. starting April 6, the network announced on Wednesday.   Moving a series to a Friday or Saturday is usually a prelude to cancellation. The entire 17 episode season WILL run, according to the network.

Ratings for the show have been dismal since it returned to the schedule in February. At the moment the key demo is under 1.0.   The show seemed doomed from the start.  While critics loved the Season 1 pilot, the show eventually became the butt of jokes.  The original show runner, Theresa Rebeck and a number of cast members were replaced for Season 2, but it was too little too late.

Ah Smash. we hardly knew ye.  Hopefully Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle and Megan Hilty can move on quickly to other projects.
