Ryan Seacrest as Today Show host? According to The Wall Street Journal, he’s in talks with NBC Universal for the gig.
This all seems very preliminary and super iffy. First, Matt Lauer has to announce he’s leaving the Today show, and 2nd, Ryan would have to clear his already filled schedule to take the job. I would imagine he’d ditch the E! stuff. But, we’ll see.
Comcast Corp.’s NBCUniversal is pursuing Ryan Seacrest as a possible successor to Matt Lauer on the “Today” show, if Mr. Lauer vacates his co-anchor seat next year, according to people close to the company.
NBC executives—including “Today” show executive producer Jim Bell, NBC News President Steve Capus and its senior vice president for marketing and communications, Lauren Kapp—met with Mr. Seacrest on Tuesday evening to discuss the possibility of him joining the show, according to those people.
To be sure, the talks are preliminary and could fall apart at any time.
E!News is owned by NBCUniversal, so Ryan is actually already part of the NBC family so to speak. He’s been in talks with the Comcast over the past few months to figure out ways to enhance his role at the company.
