dang Shawn was cut.

I know not everyone agreed but I liked Shawn and I think she had personality so for that I was sorry to see her go. I noticed that Jeff didn’t extend to her the same “you know my address” that he did to Pearl Heart – guess she wasn’t that much of his dark horse, lol.

Since Melissa and Gabe had their song together prepared and rehearsed, I think it may be safe to assume the Shawn elimination was broken to the remaining three ahead of time.

If its country…Gabe should win. If it’s about singing only…Melissa.

I’m so glad that it was down to my favorites this season…something that NEVER happens on Idol!

Well that just sucks. Melissa has a good voice but I’m just not a fan of belters and nothing about her voice sounds country to me.

I’m okay with Melissa winning but I have to say that was the _worst_ finale of its type that I’ve ever seen. Why didn’t they just make it a half an hour rather than stretch it out by asking the contestants and judges to keep saying the same things over and over?

I never watched NS before this season and until Shawn Mayer said Miranda Lambert came in third, I hadn’t known that. She (and Buddy Jewel) are the only names that I recognized to have come from this show and I thought she’d won.

WTF??? UGH on Melissa. I would never purchase her music. Country music and Melissa wins? Ummmm yeah.

LOL, I was comparing Taylor & Kat to Gabe & Melissa too. I think I’ll go with Taylor & Kat.

All these shows are rigged, please, I don’t think it takes away from the entertainment value. The fan participation gimmick is what sells these things so I can’t knock it.

Gabe was a better country singer and this Melissa was a better singer, all my opinion from watching just a handful of performances each. If I voted I likely would have voted for Gabe.

Yes, it may be a dumb song, but it is great to dance to. It gave Grandmas, Moms, and children a chance to dance together at weddings! Yep, I still like it.

Melissa sounded awful on that Grand Prize Winner song. Sorry. It DID all go wrong.

A few things. Billy Ray is not a one hit wonder. He had several top hits off his some gave all album. And a couple hits that were a little more recent.

The show wasnt really better produced when on usa but they had better talent. In all the seasons on this show the right top 3 have usually been picked. I dont think it was any different here. Once they cut the crap the best were left. The success of Mellissa will all hinge on whether they decide to promote her or not. That has been the main thing with the ns winners in the past. NO promotion. We will see.

She also wins a big-ass truck, a recording contract and a chance to perform at the Olympics.

My dealer says they can’t give big-ass trucks away these days. I guess that’s what reality show prizes are for.

And “a chance to sing at the Olympics?” They start on Friday, why the uncertainty?

Billy Ray actually has a “body of work” — both in music and acting (he was the lead character on some doctor show on cable that was successful.)

Melissa Lawson — the most boring winner ever. Good luck to her and John Rich on getting a hit single.

I voted for Shawn and melissa throughout. I thought Melissa had a terrific voice but they are a dime a dozen. I thought Shawn was awesome. Id buy anything by her. Im pretty sure that Melissa’s back story helped her tremendously. Many can relate to her weight loss and her 2 dozen children. I bet mostly women and moms voted for her based on that.

As many have said, it doesnt matter, all will be fine and more likely than not , all will fade into the musical void. I still say Shawn has the best chance of making it as does Gabe.

Oh, BTW, when NS was on USA I voted like crazy for Brad Cotter and love his song “I Miss Me” but he, like so many others, was never to be heard of again.

It all hinges on dumb luck and promotion IMHO of course.

I actually used to watch this show pretty regularly. Did NOT watch this season much though. I didn’t really like any of the contestants much at all – except Gabe Garcia. 1st season – on originl song night, I said out loud about Miranda Lambert “You are something else girl! You should be BIG!” Hooray for Miranda! Even though she didn’t win. She didn’t need to. I loved Brad Cotter, bought his 1st country album. (He had made Christian/gospel albums already.) Never heard of him again. I liked Chris Young – his single got A LOT of airplay, even tho I can’t remember the name of it (Drink Myself Lonely?) & I didn’t buy his album! He was the house band for a bar/dancehall in Arlington TX for quite some time prior to being on the show. (Same place Melissa Lawson is from!) I was very diappointed in this show this season. I like & respect John Rich but I didn’t like him as a judge here. I didn’t like Jewel either. And Billy RAY, you’ve been in front of the cameras & fans for years! Why were you so uncomfortable here? Sigh. (His TV series is called “Doc.”)

In the end, it probably wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t matter much. This entire cast will probably fade into obscurity with the rest of the Nashville Star alumni.

That’s not quite true, is it? Miranda Lambert came in 3rd on Nashville Star, and she’s doing quite well these days….so at least one person made it!

We loved the year that Brad Cotter was on too — he disappeared into the night. I think he had some creative differences with the label and they cut him loose.
