The Much Music Awards took place Sunday night in Toronto Canada. LMFAO were the hosts, and yes, it was as trainwrecky as you’d imagine. Kelly Clarkson performed, and was so awesome she gets her very own post.

Here’s the Canadian Idol portion of this post!

Video of the Year award winner, Carly Rae Jepsen sang her SMASH hit “Call Me Maybe” swinging on a giant telephone. Look how cute she is!

Carly sang the Sia part on “Wild Ones” with Flo-Rida. That must have gone a long way to meeting the Canadian Content Quota!

Another Canadian Idol Alum, Jacob Hoggard, and his band Hedley performed their single, “Kiss You Inside Out.” Jacob wished his Dad a happy Father’s Day. Aw.

Here’s the Glee portion of this post!

AKA Second Hand Embarrassment. Darren Criss and Chord Overstreet were presenters, forced to do  crummy bits written for them. Actually, other than the performances, the show was poorly conceived  and a chore to get through. You’ll understand what I mean when you watch these clips.

Darren teaches LMFAO how to sing their songs Broadway style. I was waiting for Darren to point and SCREAM ALL HIS LINES.

Chord Overstreet presented the big award, Video of the Year, to Carly Rae Jepsen. But not before he caused a near riot when he tossed a rose out into the audience.

Here’s the EPICALLY BAD LIP SYNCING portion of this post.

Native son, Justin Bieber closed the show. I understand that lots of performers, lip sync. But c’mon–he wasn’t even TRYING to make it look legit.  Sometimes there was singing, but his lips weren’t moving! And his dancing isn’t all that.

Thanks for the videos! I look forward to this award show every year – and I’m in the US, lolz. Love love love me some Hedley. Best thing to come from Canadian Idol in my opinion. (I wasn’t a fan of Carly Rae when she was on…she did better than my WGWG Greg Neufeld <3)

    “The Much Music Awards” are?

  • Axxxel

To me, Chord Overstreet does not even have to talk… *swoon*… even in those few seconds…
Curly Darren was cute when he was together with the curly frontman of LMFAO.

Ahhhhh, Greg. He was my first WGWG love. Great voice, gorgeous, good musician, but not a great performer (inexperienced/self-conscious?) at that time. I wonder how he’s doing? And Kaylan, whatever happened to him?

I share your admiration for Hedley. If only Greg had had some of Jacobs charisma and cockiness.

When was the last time the Beibs ever song live? Can the kid even sing anymore or does it matter these days whether he can or not.

I knew there was a reason I did not watch this show. I just don’t want to see the Biebs “perform” anymore on these shows. He can’t even sing and that is my issue with his success and making all this money. Shouldn’t his 15 minutes be up? I think the average age of his fan has to be a 12 year old female and that is why I hope One Direction does well and takes over as teen idols.  At least they can all sing in 1D. The Biebs should just be on the Disney channel or the Teen Choice Awards where his fan base is.

I like Biebs, sue me.  At least he isn’t raunchy and disgusting like, say, LMFAO.

    “The Much Music Awards” are?

It’s a Canadian music TV channel.

Carly Rae Jepsen is about the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen.  Really, she’s lovely.

I wonder how performers feel about basically staring at a bank of hundreds of smartphones when they play nowadays.  It’s annoying for other people in the audience too.

At least he isn’t raunchy and disgusting like, say, LMFAO.

They’re just a waste of space. There’s always room for the next Aqua and Right Said Fred and so on, and I understand the appeal of “Shuffling” and their other tunes when you’re drunk on a warm friday night somewhere but they’re not charismatic guys in my opinion, and don’t have anywhere to go as LMFAO (are they producers too?). I’d rather they give these sort of hosting gigs to real musicians or actors.

My favorite Canadian Idol was Kalan Porter WGWV .

The music scene is so bad today. The industry has lost most of its creativity by having to much control over the artists IMO. The musicianship has been hit the hardest because its mostly computers instead of real instruments. And lip syncing should go away.

Call me crazy (no pun intended) but I think the music scene is slowly going back to the late 90s early 00s craze with the music out now. The boy bands (One direction, The Wanted), alternative/singer-songwriters (Ed Sheeran, Gotye, Fun), bubble gum pop (CRJ).

I agree with that. If you think about it, we kind of had an updated 80′s phase here recently too with the synth heavy sounds. Lady Gaga for instance.

    Everything old is new. :D

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

Well at least they had some different talent, and Kelly wowed.   As for Bieber, I have never thought he had much talent, but a definite appeal to teeny boopers. What’s the news on his new album, haven’t read anything in that dept, but I am sure he will sell tons.   Perhaps One Direction will steal his thunder, but I am not putting money on it at this point.

Biebs doesn’t really bother me since I just tend to ignore his songs on the radio. However, I do think he CAN sing – it’s just that these days, he seems to have let the auto-tuning and rap/hip-hop influences overwhelm everything he does. Plus, what’s the deal with those pants that look like they’re always about to fall down?

Kelly was amazing live, as always. Marianas Trench’s lead singer has sounded much better (seems hoarse here but he actually has a great voice). Hedley’s new single for their album release in the U.S. is catchy. Now all they need is for Ashley Tisdale, Selena Gomez and the Biebs to lip-synch to it and they’ll have a Billboard hit. ;1
