We’ll be covering the MTV Video Music Awards when they air Sunday night at 9 pm live from Brooklyn.  It was announced today that Adam Lambert will be presenting. Also scheduled to appear are Ellie Goulding, Wiz Khalifa and more.

Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Drake, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will perform. So will Katy Perry at an off site location.

But the big rumor is the ‘Nsync reunion. Word is, after Justin Timberlake accepts the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, and performs solo, the rest of his old bandmates will come on stage to sing–maybe a medley of their greatest hits.  The internet has been screaming over this news.

MTV Music Video Awards Executive producer, Jesse Ignjatovic is also one of the new American Idol producers set to make many big and bold changes for the coming season /sarcasm.

  • Mateja Praznik

One Direction are presenting an award. Also, they collected well over 6 million votes for “Song of the Summer” award.

  • H.A.

Justin Timberlake makes good music but does anyone really think his videos are deserving of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award?

  • Q_3

I am not sure what this award is actually for — since Brittney Spears won in 2011 (the last time it was awarded.)

  • lkingcorn

I read where Gaga opening show and Perry closing show. Not sure I understand Perry at an off site location. Is the off site a slight? Is she in fact closing show or is someone else. Also notice no word of Bieber . Is this an over sight?

  • Ronnie D

Wow, what a great opportunity for Adam. He always seems to remain in the spotlight somehow lol. Imagine if Adam and GaGa did a duet. omg

    From wiki:

The Video Vanguard Award, also known as the Lifetime Achievement Award, is given to musicians who have made a profound effect on the MTV culture. The award was renamed in 1991 as the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award from then on. The award is also given to music video directors who have created some of the most popular and acclaimed music videos in MTV history. The award has come under fire because MTV hardly handed the award out during the 1990s and 2000s. While the recipients of the award have included some of the most popular and acclaimed artists in MTV history, MTV has been criticized for not handing out the award to other artists that some see as having an effect on MTV (such as Nirvana, Tupac Shakur, Eminem, Mariah Carey, Run-DMC and Bruce Springsteen).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTV_Video_Vanguard_Award

  • Ronnie D

I think Justin deserves it, especially after the description you posted. Michael came from a boy band in a way, and went on to have a huge solo career. Justin has done the same.

  • Karen C

I’m really happy that Adam is going to be presenting. It’s terrific exposure for him. Great that he was asked.

  • mmb

It’s not a slight. Katy is one of the big headliners of the night. Rumor has it the performance will be on the Brooklyn Bridge. Expect a big huge production from her and Gaga to launch their new eras

  • jpfan2

Very nice gig for Adam. Props to his management. Idols are having a good week on MTV.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Here’s the complete list of nominations:

    http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1710689/vma-nominations-list-2013.jhtml

The only mention of Bieber that I could see was as a featured artist on Will.i.am’s video which has been nominated:

    Best Choreography
    » Chris Brown, “Fine China”
    » Ciara, “Body Party”
» Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull, “Live It Up”
    » will.i.am feat. Justin Bieber, “#thatPOWER”
    » Bruno Mars, “Treasure”

I didn’t realize that Kelly was nominated:

Best Video With A Social Message
» Kelly Clarkson, “People Like Us”
» Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, “Same Love”
» Snoop Lion, “No Guns Allowed”
» Miguel, “Candles in the Sun”
    » Beyoncé, “I Was Here”

  • H.A.

I don’t know why I thought the award was for artists that were innovative, creative with their videos. I guess Justin can fall in this Lifetime Achievement category. Although I think since he was away for about 8yrs there might be some artists more deserving.

  • taptap

$100 says Same Love will take it.

  • jpfan2

I’m going to predict that Adam give out this award with a co-presenter.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that the word “vanguard” implies that the award is for being at the forefront of innovation and creativity, so I don’t think that you are necessarily mistaken –

    a. The foremost or leading position in a trend or movement.

    b. Those occupying a foremost position.

    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/vanguard

  • Mel432

That Jesse Ignjatovic gets around, doesn’t he? VH1 Divas, MTV Video Awards, American Idol. Was it him or the other AI Exec Producer who named Adam as his favorite Idol contestant?

  • Susan Reiter

Yeah for the Adam Lambert news! What a great gig, exposure for him and he will get to see all of those incredible performances too! win AND win!

  • Sharon S.

    I think it was Jesse.

  • Sharon S.

My guess is he’ll be introducing Daft Punk’s performance of “Get Lucky”. He’s worked with both Pharrell and Nile Rodgers.

  • lkingcorn

Thanks for te heads up I was lookingbforwardvto both performances.

  • supersonic

MTV are really desperate for viewers, huh? Let’s see, the Adam Lambert fanbase will watch just to see him present; the nutty fanbases of the people who are performing; and let’s not forget about the nutty NSYNC fanbase who are just foaming at the mouth for this reunion.

Plus, the show is going up against a preseason football game on NBC and Breaking Bad. So, they’re pulling out all the stops for viewers.

  • supersonic

Justin Timberlake makes good music but does anyone really think his
videos are deserving of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award?

Hell, no. But they needed him there for the show so why not give him the Vanguard award?

  • Mel432

Didn’t realize that time slot was so competitive. It’s difficult to compete with pro-football. I wouldn’t call it desperate, tho, just competitive, as with many TV shows.

  • taptap

You’re right, it would be so much more logical to put in presenters and performers that no one wants to see. That way they could claim to be completely unbiased and uninterested in the outcome of the show. Why didn’t they think of that?!

  • elliegrll

It’s a television show, so of course they want people to tune in. In order to achieve that goal they are going to have performances that they think will result in people watching.

No offense to anyone in the idol bubble, but Adam presenting isn’t exactly on the same level as N’SYNC performing, and won’t bring in the amount of eyeballs that that performance will.

  • twinkies-are-back

Smile, life really is good. I am so happy Adam has a fanbase to watch all the good things he is being offered.

  • No Thanks

Great opportunity for Adam to network. Maybe Adam will get to meet the “twink” buffet that is One Direction. :op

  • Sharon S.

I don’t see anyone suggesting that it is. Adam’s fans are justifiably pleased that he’ll be a part of the show. I’m sure plenty of artists would be delighted to get the opportunity to be a presenter on the VMAs.

  • H.A.

I thought Adam met One Direction already? or was it The Wanted. lol They all confusing.

  • alterego

Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks have all been nominated for the VMA during their careers.

  • Ari

Thats quite a coup for Adam. Its funny when you think that the MTV Video producer is the new Idol one. So he’s someone who has major connections with everyone in the music industry. And he couldnt come up with someone better than JLO? I wonder who first came up the idea and approached Dr Luke. Its just a shame that they brought Jlo and Randy back. Some times, you have to make somewhat of a clean break. I cant believe there are so many Randy fans that want to hear his same tired lines for yet another year. What are they going to change? A new set? Some new elimination or voting procedure? Have Ryan read live tweets? Change the age requirements? Have new t heme weeks (well yea, that might help) but still – they hyped it up like there would be drastic changes…They may make it look and sound more modern – and Dr Luke definitely is current but theyre going to have to really surprise the audience with the same old talent

  • Ari

What is Adam presenting? Seems like a random pick- unless theyre giving some gay icon award. GOod for him – it is great visibility and Im sure he’ll have an outfit worth talking about

  • Ari

Well thats all those crying tween girls who think theyre all getting married to one of those kids can do

  • Sharon S.

    LOL, it was The Wanted.

  • Ari

nope…but im not a huge fan of his current music.

  • No Thanks

1D is a BAZILLION times more attractive than The Un-Wanted.

  • Ari

Britney definitely has a long line of very memorable music videos. Luckily these are video awards – not signing awards. I dont know if Brit even can sing live. She hasnt done it in years. I dont know why youd go to a Las Vegas show and not have the artist sing. I hope Gaga, Perry and the other performers at least sing LIVE tomorrow

  • Ari

Its all called ratings and hype. Choosing who gets these awards and who attends the show is about that as much if not more about who ‘deserves’ it. Add the hype of an N Sync reunion

  • Ari

But probably Perry wont sing live…Especially on a site like that and with dancing. Her live singing isnt that great. I wonder if Gaga will sing live or at least partly live. I really hate the whole thing lately with singers not singing…especially on awards shows or concerts or going to a singing competition show like THe Voice or Idol or XFactor .

  • Ari

Call Adams agent/manager and MAKE it happen.

  • Ari

The show is always about ratings…I dont know that the preseason football crowd is the same as MTV. Adam cuz theyre desperate? Youve got to be kidding. There are a ton of much bigger stars with much bigger fan bases they could go after. This is an awards show; the artists are more desperate for the screen time and promotional value. The show airs on multiple networks such as MTV/VH1/Logo etc not to mention all around the world. There will be youtube videos and articles written about it and coverage on all the entertainment TV shows. Plus its likely to be rerun several times this week.

  • Ari

Sunday nights are very competitive but I dont think theyre worried about that. Of all awards shows, MTV has the reputation of being hip and always having ‘moments’ people talk about the next day. Preseason doesnt count and somehow I dont think their audiences necessarily overlap that much…Or watch one on tape delay.

  • Ari

Too bad Melanie Amaro was in Indonesia for that XF thing.

  • taptap

No offense taken. And no offense to you, but you couldn’t possibly know which presenters, performers, or combination thereof will bring in what amount of eyeballs.

  • Ari

I agree. They would have 1 Direction singing together with The Wanted. Gaga and Madonna singing a medley together followed by a Kanye West/Taylor Swift duet. And Blue Ivy would be brought on stage to sing a song with JayZ and Beyonce.

  • Ari

Its a much better opportunity for Adam than MTV. I dont think MTV is going to get any ratings increase because someone is presenting (not even singing), especially with an announcement being made this late. HE might even be replacing someone who dropped out

  • taptap

Whether he was chosen initially or as a replacement, it still tells us he’s in demand, and for an artist, that’s crucial, no matter how you define it.

  • taptap

That’s great! Adam’s always grouped with the top Idols – love it!

  • taptap

okay, now that brings up a very ‘ew’ visual.

  • HermeticallySealed

    Not seeing anyone saying otherwise.

  • HKfan

How great that you think Adam has a big enough fan base to make a difference to the MTV VMA’s viewer numbers:)

  • HKfan

Don’t normally watch the show, but hopefully will watch this year, its being shown on MTV Asia.

  • elliegrll

No, but I can surmise that people who can sell more than 300K copies of their album have a better shot of luring more viewers than those who can’t.

  • supersonic

I agree with you. I’m sure this was all worked out to have Timberlake at the show.

MTV: We want you at the Video Music Awards. Can you come?
Timberlake: What am I going to get out of it?
MTV: We’ll give you the Vanguard award.
    Timberlake: Okay, I’ll come.
MTV: Also, we have this great idea of an NSYNC reunion. What do you think?
Timberlake: Okay. I’ll throw those guys a bone. Let them have the honor of being on stage with me. I’m sure they have to eat or have some bills to pay so they’ll do it.

  • supersonic

Preseason doesn’t count, but people still watch. I know I’m going to check it out and I don’t even like the Vikings or the 49ers.

  • H.A.

Adam’s sales always seems to manage to find their way in every thread but yet his sales hasn’t stop him from moving forward and getting opportunities. I’m sure Xtina’s and her 200k sales is crying all the way to the bank from her judging gig. Like Adam artists make their money from other things than albums sales.

  • Kariann Hart

Why isn’t Jesse Ignjatovic having Adam Lambert or another Idol alumni performing. That would promote “his” show.

  • supersonic

Lambert presenting is pretty random, though. Maybe he is filling in for someone who had to back out.

His outfit is going to be a mess. He’ll probably try to make the whole moment about him.

  • taptap

It’s an interesting surmise, but it doesn’t explain why they asked him, then. I surmise they believe the number of viewers he’ll draw is not directly correlatable to album sales. Just a guess.

  • taptap

It’s very sad, isn’t it, that artists like Adam are given this recognition, while other, worthier artists are not? smh, it’s almost incomprehensible.

  • taylor

Are you arguing with the comparison that you brought up, because no one but you claimed that Adam was the draw that N’SYNC was?

  • Montavilla

    Baby steps. :)

  • Mel432

The reason people who have met and worked with Adam adore him so much is he does the opposite. He puts the focus on the “other” person. A good example is when he performed with Angie Miller.

  • ellen8

Just watched JT’s video and it/he reminded me so much of Robin Thicke – hair, movements, song.

  • Emmy

Yay – can’t wait to see a bit of Adam on my TV again!

  • YankeeFan08

Yes! And Yay to his management for getting him these high profile gigs … VMAs, iHeart, Glee and who knows what else is yet to come!

  • ANNIEBA

Ew, I know Adam likes guys younger than he is but these boys are babies, lol. They are cute enough for the twelve yr olds I guess but they probably barely shave. I agree though this is great for Adam even though he isn’t performing. All the good relationships Adam has created continue to pay off, sometimes in surprising ways. Can’t wait to see the show. There are some great artists lined up.

  • mmb

Adam has presented at a number of award shows. And while his outfits are always a matter of personal taste, he has never once made the moment all about him

  • milwlovesadam

Great news for Adam. I hope he shows up like he usually does, dressed in a classy suit and tie, is articulate and sweet and funny. He has some wonderful things happening now in his career, and presenting at the VMA’s is acknowledgement that he is also a video artist.

  • RoRo Williams

Looking forward to seeing Adam Lambert on TV and I’ll be watching!

  • Liteasy

He has nothing to do with the top Idols – is hardly known in the music world except for his granny fans.

  • girlygirl

I wouldn’t necessarily say that the VMAs are acknowledging Adam is a music video artist by having him be a presenter. For example, a lot of times there are actors who are presenters at music award shows, and occasionally I will see a musician be a presenter at the Emmys or Oscars or another award show that is for actors. Etc etc.

It’s still a great gig for Adam, good exposure and all of that. I’m sure he will have a fun time.

  • girlygirl

Not in this case. The OP says Kelly, Carrie and Jordin have been NOMINATED for VMAs. Not that they’ve been presenters. Until Adam gets nominated for a VMA, you cannot include him — or any other Idol not named Kelly, Carrie or Jordin — on that list. Presenting and being nominated for an award are two separate things.

  • girlygirl

Lollll, I think the 1D guys are a little too young for Adam to be interested in any of them. Are any of them even 21 yet? :)

  • Sharon S.

Sure. That explains his presence at the VMAs. That show is all about appealing to the grannies. But then again, if that were the case, I can think of other Idols who would be even better choices for that particular demographic.

It doesn’t matter how good Adam’s management may be – if MTV didn’t think he would appeal to its audience, it wouldn’t have booked him.

  • girlygirl

Award shows are always about ratings and providing “water cooler” moments, so why would this year’s VMAs be any different?

Preseason football games don’t usually draw big ratings, and somehow I doubt there would be a huge overlap in the viewing demographic for the NFL and the VMAs.

  • Sharon S.

To be fair, the VMAs don’t need to acknowledge that Adam is a music video artist, because obviously he is a music video artist. Not counting the “Time for Miracles” video, he’s done five well-received (even if not VMA-nominated) videos that have played on MTV and VH1.

  • Mateja Praznik

    Louis is 21.

  • girlygirl

Every musician who has ever had a video played on MTV or VH1 could legitimately be called a music video artist.

  • YankeeFan08

Not speaking for taptap, but I’m pretty sure she means that Adam is routinely “included” with top Idols … Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry, etc. It’s a nice group to be a part of that’s for sure.

  • supersonic

The last few years of the Video Music Awards have been so sleep inducing that MTV is going out of their way to make sure that this year is the best. They got an NSYNC reunion. How in the hell did that happen?

You wouldn’t believe the overlap in the viewing demographic for the NFL and the Video Music Awards. And let’s not forget Breaking Bad.

  • ANNIEBA

Well, I’m shocked. They all look like they are around 15. Still can’t exactly call them “twinks” since they are straight, right? Unless that is something else I don’t know, lol.

  • lovetheusa1776

It’s all good. Good for Adam and good for me.

  • supersonic

    Why do you know that?

  • everything

This is not a watershed appearance in his career. It will literally only be a few secs. The VMA’s are not The Grammy’s. Lots of Idols have appeared on awards shows. J-Hud presented Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars. I doubt any record label will see it offer him a contract because it.

  • ANNIEBA

Who said it was? Can’t fans just be happy he is going to be there?

  • lkingcorn

Understand Levine leaving the sinking ship. Best they could do is bring Jlo and Randy back. With a wealth of talent in the world this is a real dud.

  • lkingcorn

Well said! We support Adam in whatever he does. He has an active loyal fan base since 2008 . We’re not knocking others fans so give it a rest.

  • Sharon S.

Exactly. Nobody is making grandiose claims here. His fans are happy because it’s a nice gig. Presenting slots on major awards shows are coveted, and I, for one, am pleasantly surprised that Adam has one on the VMAs.

  • Mel432

Awwww. I’m so disappointed. I thought RCA would see him and regret giving up on him, call his people, and say “we will offer anything Adam wants, plus a resigning bonus of $1M.

  • Sharon S.

And yet I’m still happy he’ll be there.

  • mmb

Of course it’s not. But as is constantly noted by idol fans, it’s important to stay visible and appearances such as this is a good way to stay visible. And the vmas historically have been pretty unfriendlly to male idol alums. So even a 2 second presenting gig is progress. Less idols than you may think have performed or presented at major music award shows like the AMAs, vmas, Grammys, mmvas

  • Mel432

Doesn’t sound like Adam is going to be a mess:

“Got my Lanvin suit all pressed and ready to party!”

He usually wears well-fit, sleek suits. nicely coiffed hair, and for many months now, no makeup or nail polish. Not necessarily an attention-getting look, but Adam always looks so classy and handsome, that in itself draws attention to him.

  • JLE12

    http://www.justjared.com/2013/06/17/adam-lambert-world-war-z-nyc-premiere/

I agree. He sure wasn’t a mess at all the last time he was on the red carpet. IMO Pretty damn hot.

  • girlygirl

I googled it, and the ratings for last year’s VMAs were down 50% from the 2011 VMAs. So yeah, I guess they are looking for ways to up the entertainment factor and keep that from becoming a trend.

  • girlygirl

Adam always looks nice when he attends these type of awards shows. I can’t remember him ever looking like “a mess”

  • fuzzywuzzy

“I doubt any record label will see it and sign him because it.”

Really? I thought that was a common way that artists were signed. lol

  • everything

From what I hear, Adam Lambert is supposed to be an international superstar

  • ANNIEBA

Really, that’s awesome! I haven’t heard that, but it’s good to hear you have.

  • ANNIEBA

Who said this was a watershed moment, lol. Fans are just happy he is going to be there.

  • taptap

Because they’re dating or engaged to girls.

  • taptap

Remember the rc where Kelly O reported to the fashion police that when Adam showed up whispers went up from the media – ‘Adam looks HOT!’

Guess that’s the kind of hot mess he can live with ;>

  • taptap

And yet whenever the top idols are discussed, he’s still always grouped with Kelly, Carrie, and JHud.

    ¯_(?)_/¯

  • H.A.

Do we know for sure that Adam is presenting? I don’t see him on the list. Usually only people who get placement seats are those who are directly associated with the show in some capacity like winners, nominees and presenters. It looks like he’s sitting in the third row which is pretty close for just a guest and near Nile Rodgers and Pharrell.

  • H.A.

    Adam Lambert ?@adamlambert
Got my Lanvin suit all pressed and ready to party! @mtv #VMAs

    Jonathan D. Lovitz ?@jdlovitz
@adamlambert @MTV you are gonna be FLAWLESS as always babe!

  • Sharon S.

    Your hearing is rather selective.

  • Face

    yikes!

  • lovetheusa1776

Perhaps he’ll introduce – not present. (Just want to see him in that suit – lol.)
