More Season 10 Rumors: Courtney Love For Judge? A Big Announcement on Monday?

Now it’s getting silly.

NBC 10 is reporting that Courtney Love, wife of the late Kurt Cobain and leader of the band Hole, is in the running to take Simon Cowell’s place at the American Idol judges’ table.

Yeah. Right. Courtney is known for doing copious amounts of drugs and making a spectacle of herself, both online and in public.

She’s put out a few decent records with her band Hole, but she’s also feuded publicly with the members of her husband’s band, Nirvana and her own daughter, who she no longer has custody of.

So family friendly, and so reliable. NOT. The NBC scoop is from “sources close to Love” so you know it’s her peeps just trying to get some buzz for their client’s DOA career.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that THEIR sources are reporting that Jessica Simpson DID meet with Idol executives, confirming earlier reports, but that she “is just one of ‘dozens’ of candidates who’ve been considered for an Idol gig when it returns in January 2011.

But, E Online has sources too, who say Jessica met with Idol producers but “nothing came of the confab,” and that both Elton John and Justin Timberlake–two names floated recently for Simon’s job–met with producers and nothing came of those talks either. According to EW, those meetings took place  “months ago.”

While TMZ claims that an announcement about Simon Cowell’s replacement won’t happen until early September, EW reports it could happen as early as Monday, during FOX day at the TCA press tour in Los Angeles.

Says the EW source, “The network’s dream scenario would be to make a splashy announcement at TCA on Monday morning. They’d be the talk of TCA, and the message to other networks would essentially be, ‘Follow that”

The only thing that media outlets appear to agree on, is that Nigel Lythgoe will return to American Idol.  Tonight on Nigel’s dance competition show, So You Think You Can Dance, he slipped and called it American Idol.  He said, something to the effect, “You know what’s been on my mind lately.”

    I can’t imagine they would hire her, but I do believe they would consider her for train wreck purposes. I have to say I would much rather it be Love than Simpson. She’s failed in every possible music category out there. Plus she’s very unlikable. That’s why VH1 is scrambling to revamp her horrible VH1 show. Courtney would have a lot of haters, but she would also have a segment of the population who would love her(if she shows up). Oh well. It won’t happen anyway. It’ll probably be Lythgoe.

    This rumor makes about as much sense as Howard Stern… Not family friendly at all, I agree its just a ruse to get their name out there.

    I am really interested in what things will ‘shake up’ at Idol. Nigel returning is….an Okay idea. I agree he can make a great reality show, Idol did seem to go off the rails and lost a little of its magic after, imo, Season 6. So hopefully if Nigel returns he can take the reigns. OTOH, I hope he knows his role and doesn’t get overinvolved. Respect the contestants, respect the audience.

    I’m glad Timberlake and Elton John turned down the opp to take Simon’s seat. It would be too much and they’d be neglecting other projects. And I predict Jessica Simpson, if made any offers, it was to guest judge during the audition rounds. No biggie, add her to the roster of 30+ stars that have guested since Season 2.

    I hope they make Kara a long-standing mentor and take her off the judging panel. We could see her work with kids on song choice or arrangements (and on song-writing if they allow Original music week), she’d still get the screen time.

    LOL, uh NO! They want someone that doesn’t have a career anymore or has been around. How about Prince? :) nah he wouldn’t do it. I think Harry Connick Jr. is their best bet. I think idol should do a test run with the top 5 judges to replace Simon and then let the public choose who the best fit would be. :) Vote for the new judge…..lol..

    I think Jessica will be a Guest Judge. I think these rumors fuel conversation and debate, and that’s what Idol loves to see. Courtney might not even work out as a Guest Judge.

    I think Nigel will bring drama back to the show. You know, like a Soap Opera.

    lawd hammercy, who is next to be rumored to be in talks to be an idol judge – joan rivers? howze about omarosa, or maybe they can go hi tech and hologram an image of elvis or michael jackson into the judges seat? what a circus, and it gets curiouser and curiouser by the day :) you have to just laugh at this stuff…

    I laughed out loud when Nigel made his comment in Lauren’s critique about American Idol. For the life of me, I can’t remember what he said, but my jaw dropped. The looks on Lauren and Cat’s faces were priceless. I had the feeling that he was not there while watching some performances, and that pretty much confirmed it for me.

    Personally, with the various names being bandied about, I wouldn’t be surprised if they went with a reprise of having guest judges this year and completely forego replacing Simon’s seat with a permanent slot.

    Jessica Simpson? No. Courtney Love? Ridiculous.

    I’m hating these possibilities and they seem to be getting worse as time goes on. I thought the Brett Michaels rumor was bad enough. What I wish would honestly happen is that they would just let it be and just stick with the three they have.

    I can’t help but wonder if Idol is planting names of these ridiculous “candidates” to keep people busy talking, but not about those they are actually considering.

    A name I’ve never heard mentioned as a possibility that I think would make an excellent judge is Linda Ronstadt. She’s been involved with enough different genres to have wider perception than some others who have been seriously suggested. I’d like to see her replace Ellen or even Kara.

    ETA: Scratch that! I was thinking Ronstadt is likely in her 40s. Just checked and according to IMDb she is 64. Judges should probably be sub-50.

    I don’t see how they could be ready for a Monday announcement. Even if they’ve picked which it doesn’t seem like they have, wouldn’t they have contract stuff to iron out?

    Some of these names recently surfacing are not making AI look any better. Justin & Elton are too big for it and Jessica and Courtney are too desperate for it.

    For some reason, I read the headline as “Courtney Cox”. I was thinking “WTF are the producers thinking?” Then after I realized my mistake, I, again, mistakenly thought that it was Jennifer Love-Hewitt.

    Throw Mr.T’s name in the ring!! He’d glare at the contestants all stankfaced at the start of each show, scare them witless, then on results show night, at the beginning when ryan asks the judges for their comments he’d say “I pity the fool who think they safe tonight! :P

    You know, that’s not at all funny to me, I think it would be the PERFECT idea! Can you imagine how much that would help the ratings?! I wish they had considered this idea, you think it is too late?

    I am sure everyone in upper management over at AI has noted the problems with ticket sales for this year’s tour, and it’s put them in the mood for big changes. Plus, I read something completely awesome in my local paper (St. Pete Times), which is that Nigel Lythgoe had once stated that were Simon Cowell to leave, he would replace the complete judges’ panel. I think that would be great!! It’s time for some fresh air. Simon Cowell leaving is going to be too much of a strain for the show unless they really do something new. I don’t believe for a minute they would hire Courtney Love. C’mon. But I can see everyone else who’s been mentioned. As for the present panel, Randy Jackson looks bored and would probably welcome a return to touring, Kara is a happy pregnant newleywed and never seemed really invested in being a panelist anyway, Ellen D. looks like she is sorry she signed up in the first place and is really busy with her own show besides, and I think they could all be talked out of their contracts. I can’t wait to hear what is going to be announced. I bet it’s big! PS I didn’t even watch the show past Hollywood Week last year, that’s how bad it was, and I never used to miss it. I’m hoping they find lots of good talent next year and it goes back to being great television…PPS First order of business, give Vanessa Wolfe another shot.
