US Weekly is throwing Mariah Carey into the mix as a possible American Idol judge. Hell. Why not throw her name in the ring?  She’s another usual suspect that crops up when it’s time to cast a talent show panel.

They are also reporting that Idol did talk to Adam Lambert, but nothing has been decided yet. US repeats the rumor that Jlo will NOT be returning. But I have a feeling it’s a matter of the price being right.

“It’s true they’ve talked to Adam but nothing is decided yet. Fergie is another big contender,” says the source. “Adam would be an awesome addition to the show — he could really relate to the contestants and he’s such a good guy. It will be a little while before there’s any decision. They are considering a lot of people for the panel.”

Mom of twins Carey, 42, has long expressed interest in taking a seat on the panel, and was said to have been considered back in 2010 before Lopez, 42, agreed to appear on season 10. “[Mariah] wants it,” E! News reported at the time. “She’s seen what America’s Got Talent has done for [husband Nick Cannon] and she thinks it will be a good career move.”

Though no bold-faced names have signed on the Idol dotted line just yet, one thing is for certain: Lopez will not return to the series, as hard as FOX may court her. ”There is just too much going on for her right now,” says an insider of Lopez, whose tour dates conflict with Idol’s shooting schedule. “She regrets she can’t stay on the show. It’s been an incredible experience and she is forever grateful that she did it.”

Other names that have been bandied about: Katy Perry (She’s already responded to reports. She won’t do it), Miley Cyrus,  Nicki Minaj, Fergie, and Will.I.Am.  ”They are considering a lot of people for the panel,” says the source. In other words, “We’ll be throwing out random names on a daily basis to generate buzz.”

The STARS of this show should be the kids…not the judges.

Adam would be the best addition to that panel, articulate, been thru what they have and very smart

Once again, I would like to see Harry Connick, Jr. replace JLo.
    No to Adam, please!

I think Adam would do a great job. But I would like him to continue with his singing career. I’m having deja vu…. :)

I think it will be either Miley or Fergie to replace JLO if she goes. Mariah would be good if she wants it.  I still think Randy and Steven are staying as judges for now.

Although I think Adam would make an awesome judge, it’s not gonna happen. The only way they would seriously consider him is if both JLo and Steven left, so they could hire an expensive star for JLo’s place and he could be the cheaper third judge.  But I agree with the posters who predict that no judge will leave, much less two.

They need a current enough superstar besides Steven on the panel. As for Adam, although his fans will disagree, I don’t think it would be a good career move for him. He has too many obsessed haters, and they would bury him and the show IMO.

I think Mariah would make a good judge. The rest of the names being dropped? NO.

I think that recruiting judges who appeal to the younger CHR demographic is the only way to change the voting/viewing Idol audience significantly, so that’s the main reason why I’ll be interested in any newly recruited judges.  I think that any “judging ability” is entirely secondary to that goal. Simon Cowell is going after younger viewers by hiring both Britney and Demi, but we don’t know if that strategy will be successful in shaping X-Factor audiences. I guess that we’ll see.

We’re talking about a hundred or so of these rather vocal fans and haters. Not exactly gonna sway the vote.
