Watch Part 2 of the Yahoo Music interview with Allison Iraheta, after the jump!   (Watch Part 1 Here).   Allison continues her track-by-track discussion of her upcoming album, Just Like You with Lyndsey Parker.   A few highlights:

  • Allison says Jive listened to her. She didn’t sing anything she felt wasn’t right for her.
  • For instance, when she first heard “Don’t Waste the Pretty” she didn’t like it, but then she took it to producer Howard Benson, and he “did his magic.”
  • She’s really happy with the album, and so is the label.
  • She likes singing angry, “In your face” songs.
  • There’s an unnamed guy at the receiving end of her anger (!!!)
  • Allison and the label had no idea Dilana was going to release “Holiday” on her album.   If Allison knew, she wouldn’t have put it on the album.
  • Allison want to go even harder on the next album…

Hands down, best Allison interview ever!! Great stuff.

    ohmygoshhhhhhh a GUY!!!!

  • Cheetara86

I like to find the lame ass ex who hurt allison.

And its awesome that she does not want to make happy music. I love her when she sings angry

  • adamisthemanfan

Good stuff…I wonder who the guy is? LOL pretty embarrassing for him now…:P Cant wait to hear all the music.

  • Rub

Good to see her having some leverage on the album. And to the credit of these idols, their albums are very different. Perhaps Adam’s and Allis records are somewhat similar, but all three had some or a great deal of say in their respective albums. Its a departure from previous idol debuts – aside from season 7 as well(according to Parker).

This coming Thursday Allison has an important gig in the Philly/Jersey area – playing at WPST 94.5
I wonder if the band will be with her, or will it be solo acoustic like DC been doing?
Any of you street teamers know?

I think this was even better than the first part. It kind of sucks about Holiday, it seems like Dilana decided to release the album after the song was sold to Allison.

Oh, and we find out for the first time about the guy that inspired the angry breakup music coming from her. He may be kicking himself right about now.

  • jordison

Phew! Beat Me Up is about mental abuse, not physical abuse.

  • JohnM

    Fantastic.

PRMari: It kind of sucks about Holiday, it seems like Dilana decided to release the album after the song was sold to Allison.

Or she kept the decision to herself, figuring she’ll get more royalties from Allison’s album than from her own…

And if he isn’t, I’ll be more than happy to do it for him! :-D

Nice to see this “she’s too young to have life experience” nonsense debunked, straight from the source.

Rub: Perhaps Adam’s and Allis records are somewhat similar

Hard to know based on snippets, of course, but it doesn’t sound that way to me. Course, I’ve only listened to Adam’s snippets a few times…

Interesting news about the Philly appearance. No, I haven’t seen anything on the street team site or gotten any emails from them about any appearances other than GMA 12/1 and Ellen 12/3.

  • PRMari

Or she kept the decision to herself, figuring she’ll get more royalties from Allison’s album than from her own’ ¦

I didn’t want to come right out and say it here but that was exactly what crossed my mind. That and how she may have gotten more promo from Allison covering the song that on her own, which really, really sucks.

Nice to see this ‘she’s too young to have life experience’ nonsense debunked, straight from the source.

Yup, pretty much my feelings exactly. In the first part she was sort of backing away from talking about her personal life experiences but I’m glad to see her opening up and putting that out there. I always felt the “too young to know what she’s talking about” was very condescending. She’s young, but she’s not a sheltered kid. I never thought she was an innocent little girl and I don’t mean that in a bad way.

JohnM: Or she kept the decision to herself, figuring she’ll get more royalties from Allison’s album than from her own’ ¦

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Dilana learned after the fact that Allison was doing the song. Which opens up a third option: there are higher ups who trade/offer/sell published music who sold rights to Allison peeps to cover the song but did not know that Dilana was releasing it also (or didn’t care).
Admittedly, I don’t know how this publishing business works, but I know a bit about Property law. If Dilana sold some of her rights on the song to a publishing company (i.e., right to release as a cover or perform), retaining a right to release the song herself, and the publishing company sold Allison the right to cover the song, then it is possible that both releases were being worked on at the same time without knowledge of the other.

JohnM :Hard to know based on snippets, of course, but it doesn’t sound that way to me. Course, I’ve only listened to Adam’s snippets a few times’ ¦

You’re right. I don’t know what I was thinking. Just that Kris’ sound is very organic, very Richard Marx. I like Richard Marx.

The label normally owns your music. I’ve seen cases were they never release artists music just because they’re not interested in it, and they sit on it. Artists can’t do anything, but the label can do whatever they want. Thats why I want Allison’s record to see the light of day. Anything else, is bonus!!

  • PRMari

The behind the scenes for her video is getting ignored here…so, let me post links to new behind the scenes pictures of the video.

    WOW just WOW
She can really take over if she wants to.
I wonder how shes going to dress for the Philly gig.

  • JohnM

So, Rub, with all this Philly talk, are you in the Philly area and planning to try to get to this event?

  • Rub

JohnM I wish. I caught that gig announcement from a twit a couple days ago. I think the Alliholics caught it too.

Im down in Miami, and when I went to check out the Demand it thing, we were like 12th or something. It all points to NY. Thats your neck of the woods right? ..or so I read in your concert review, I could have mistaken.

  • cookcricket

Now I want to listen to those snippets again! I’m so excited for Allison!! This is the first time I’ve actually thought I may pre-order her album. From iTunes. I feel I have a little time, so I’ll think about it. I would love to have the preview like we have with Kris’s album (although I had already pre-ordered his.) :)

  • nina.t

    I just love this girl.

  • JohnM

Yeah — not exactly NYC, but I’m about half an hour from Albany NY, which is where I saw her on the AI tour. We’re about 3 hours north of NYC — not that I ever go there.

Orlando’s not much farther than that for you — December 18 jingle ball, perhaps?

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Lamberthita lamberthita

looking at the comments, we all agree we want to beat this guy up but physically not mentally. she is amazing and like she said the fisrt album is special and she will show in her following albums her music evolution and I’m excited for that . watch out world !!! Red head phenomenom is coming!!!

  • matkojapan

Ok. This Dilana thing is really rubbing me the wrong way. :(

But it does explain why the tracks are practically identical!

Kind of embarrassing for whoever is at fault!

I find it hard to believe that nobody knew what was going on!

Anyway, I hope Alli makes an impact on the music world!

If Eliot Yamin can go gold why not Alli!?

  • LoveDaRocker

Ok. This Dilana thing is really rubbing me the wrong way.

Well, I am not planning on buying Dilana’s, so I will just enjoy Allison’s version.
Also, I am sure Allison will play it live too, so there is that.

Anyone knows where to find an updated list of gigs/appearances? I didn’t find anything on her official website, or her facebook page.

  • jack5791

I get a feeling from this interview that a lot of her songs might sound the same, and they all seem to be really about the same subject material. Either way, still excited!

    Wow!!!!

Who was it during the tour who said that Alli wasn’t photogenic?

  • PRMari

I get a feeling from this interview that a lot of her songs might sound the same, and they all seem to be really about the same subject material.

Well, I get from the little we’ve heard that Scars, Don’t waste the pretty, No one else, Holiday and D is for dangerous aren’t angry breakup songs and You don’t know me is more personal rather than directed to a guy. The other half are break up songs or relationship trouble songs like Robot Love and Beat me up.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Smart. Young. Talented. Lovely. Good luck, girl.

PS The tweets are fine with me. She’s 17 and of the texting generation. Snnapppsss.

  • Junior

I’ll be interested in seeing how she grows and develops as an artist over the next few years.

  • alli lurker

I’m feeling better about the music video. JohnM is right, it may have a retro feel to it. I was trying to think of what that checkered background reminded me of… its this video from 1982 (beware of bad hair!):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH1O6nyKnow&feature=related

Allison should think about covering this song – it fits right into her theme, and this chick had attitude, too. It still sound good to me!

  • Rub

JohnM: Orlando’s not much farther than that for you ‘” December 18 jingle ball, perhaps?

I don’t think I’ll be able to attend as much as I want to see this band live. Who knows tho.

Jack5791 :I get a feeling from this interview that a lot of her songs might sound the same, and they all seem to be really about the same subject material.

I don’t think Alli was saying the album to be about the same subject. It’s difficult for Alli as it is for me as well, to express a creative thought in a manner others can understand. The way to fully express yourself is to materialize your artistic vision. I’m going to help her explain this “same” bit with Pink Floyd. Now, am not saying “Just like you” is up there with Floyd, but it is in the same vein in relation to the theme of the album. Dark Side of the Moon, one of the most influential rock albums of all time had a principal theme at it’s vertebra: madness. The main theme remain constant across the album( Conflict, greed, dark), but with variation explaining different angles of madness. Allison explains that payback is sweet as the theme of Just Like You. And she tries to explain the sequence of the album which is very impresive in and of it self. Similar to Pinks “breakup” album.

  • Reflections On Life

the dilana holiday thing reminds me of a similar fiasco in the late 90s, when both leann rhimes & trisha yearwood simultaneously released “how do i live without you”, but in that case i think the movie producer and the song author/publisher were directly involved in those 2 decisions is a very public way. (leann’s song became the best selling song of the decade! but i prefer trisha’s more poignant & tender delivery.)

  • LoveDaRocker

WTF is wrong with Jive/19?!?!?! Even Michael Sarver is coming out with news today. Michael Sarver!!!
    WHY ISN’T JIVE MARKETING ALLISON!!!!

  • LoveDaRocker

And, why hasn’t Slezak, arguably the biggest supporter of Allison in the media, reviewed snipets/full songs of the album!!!! Is Jive providing Slezak with what he needs?
Besides Ellen, are there any appearances planned? Why does her official website does not have an updated calendar of upcoming events (like the Ellen interview, and the Torrid listening THIS WEEKEND)?

  • LoveDaRocker

We learned from a very tiny snippet on Billboard that Allison is releasing the Spanish version of FIBOU to Spanish stations. Why is this not in her website so that people can call and request the song? Has anyone thought of having Allison appear at Spanish radio/TV stations to promote the album?

  • alli lurker

Jeez, LoveDaRocker… a little cranky this morning?

And, why hasn’t Slezak, arguably the biggest supporter of Allison in the media, reviewed snipets/full songs of the album!!!! Is Jive providing Slezak with what he needs?

Allison is on the east coast this week… maybe she’s gonna pay Slezak a little visit. I think overall promo is definitely picking up.

  • LoveDaRocker

Indeed. Much better now after lunch (and some Tea) :-) .

  • PRMari

She’ll be on Good morning america on December 1st too. It’s in her official website under events. I’m a little frustrated with the promo too but hopefully it’ll pick up this week. Sarver may have news, but he doesn’t have an album out in two weeks :)

  • LoveDaRocker

The Events section of the website has been updated. I thought that the Torrid store event was Nov. 20 and 21 (Friday and Saturday). The website says that it is the 22nd (Sunday).
