Monday Ratings: The Voice Dips, ACA Dives

The Voice is down vs. last week, but the numbers are still solid. The American Country Awards are down 30% compared to last year. Ouch. And the Michael Buble Christmas special, featuring Blake Shelton and Carly Rae Jepsen didn’t fare nearly as well as Blake’s special  last week. Buble might have done better if The Voice were his lead in.

Via TVByTheNumbers:

On NBC, a one hour episode of The Voice earned a 3.8, down 3% from last week’s 3.9 adults 18-49 rating. On FOX, the American Country Awards scored a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating, down 30% from last year’s 2.0. Michael Buble: Home for the Holidays special earned a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating down 48% from a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating for last week’s Blake Shelton special.

I’m thinking we are oversaturated with Blake Shelton.

I’m not surprised the ACAs took a big hit going up against The Voice in their 1st hour. Not even the country media can get enthusiastic about the show itself and pretty much everybody thinks the hosting is a mess (Kristin Chenoweth is a great talent but this gig isn’t working IMO). As far as country fans, I don’t think there’s a great amount of enthusiasm for this show either. Right now they’re trying to brand the ACAs as the show that awards the superstars before the industry awards name them superstars, a la Jason last year and Luke this year. I also think there was some very deliberate spreading of the wealth to get as many of the big names going home with something. But I wonder if there’ll come a point where FOX decides this isn’t a property that’s likely to grow its own niche.

As far as Michael Buble, didn’t he have his own Christmas special last year too? Feels like diminishing returns though I’m sure his Christmas album will see the big sales boost anyway.

Michael Buble’s show started at 10 pm on a Monday night? Doesn’t seem like the right day or time for a special like that.

My SIL loves Luke Bryan and I’ve heard enough of him to say that I think his singles are absolute hackery. The prospect of seeing him win multiple awards (which he apparently did) was not remotely appealing.

I thought that the Buble special was much better than Blake’s and I am a big fan of Blake. Buble’s special was very good and I don’t usually like Christmas specials.
