Monday Ratings: New Year’s Rocking Eve Posts Best Ratings in 12 Years

ABC’s New Years Rockin Eve earned its biggest ratings in 12 years.  It was the first year without the legendary Dick Clark at the helm, and although there is no doubt Ryan Seacrest could fly solo, I think the curiosity factor had viewers tuning in.  Plus, its celebrity lineup was loaded with stars such as Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. Rockin’ Eve pretty much slaughtered The Carson Daly hosted special over on NBC.

FOX’s New Years Eve Live didn’t begin airing until after the local news at 11 pm. We’ll have to wait until the late night numbers are released to see how it fared (poorly, I’m guessing).

ABC was number one with adults 18-49 and with total viewers.

On ABC, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Celebrates Dick Clark scored a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating. Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest garnered a 4.1 adults 18-49 rating, it’s biggest rating in 12 years.

On NBC, New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly earned a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating, up from last year’s 0.9 rating.

It was a great show ABC put on – the entertainment was first class.

I enjoyed the whole night except for Taylor Swift and her clunking around the stage lip syncing

Oh and Jenny McCarthy was extremely annoying as a host…

  • breakdown

Didn’t watch ABC cuz wasn’t interested in the lineup but they really didn’t have any competition. Except for Lifehouse, Fox was the expected hot mess! I mean, srsly, a fashion show?!

“Oh and Jenny McCarthy was extremely annoying as a host…”

I find Jenny McCarthy just plain annoying no matter what she’s doing. lol

  • loveroftalent

I thought it was just me that felt that way…

  • Tinawina

Yeah no kidding. That was the one we watched because it was the only one that had performers anyone in my house wanted to see. There was NO competition this year except from maybe MTV.

For the most part, we watched ABC and Ryan with Jenny.  A few times we switched to Carson Daly.  Jenny with the guys cracked me up, and I bet she’ll be back next year.  Nice job, Ryan!

…No wonder I was asking where Ryan Seacrest was, I was on the wrong channel the entire time >_>.

Carson Daly pretty much said that Madonna was one of the Super Bowl highlights, at which point I was like “WTF this is horrible”.

  • mmb

I really enjoyed the tributes to Dick Clark with all of the old American Bandstand and NYE clips…flipped back and forth between ABC and Kathy/Anderson on CNN…after a while it started to freak me out that Jenny’s face no longer moves

Oh, good.  Then I’m not the only one who doesn’t like Jenny McCarthy as a host?  She’s so self-absorbed she’s painful to watch.  Even when she’s “interviewing” someone, it’s clear she doesn’t care a flying fig what they say, except to the extent that she can bask in reflected glory . . .
