This week’s Monday Morning Mediabase milestones feature current winners.

From American Idol, Phil Phillips is getting a lot of distance out of his coronation song “Home”. This week, the song went top 20 in a format that has traditionally had a rather icy welcome for reality show contestants, Triple A. The song is top 10 in HAC, top 20 in AAA, 30 on AC and 40 on Pop.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the new season of X-Factor, their current and first winner has flown up the UAC chart. Melanie Amaro’s first official single, “Love Me Now” has gone to top 50 on the UAC format. Her season-mate Marcus continues to do well in the top 40 on Urban.

As for the current winner of The Voice, Jermaine Paul, researchers now believe that they have found traces of him on Howland Island in the central Pacific ocean. Not to worry though, the judges are doing well. Christina roared on to the Pop charts with an impressive 1141 bullet (enough to debut in 33rd), Adam’s Maroon 5 is in the top 5 on Pop and AC (and has two top 10 songs on HAC) and Blake has the highest ranking recurrent song on Country whilst making in-roads on AC.

Finally, Season 9′s Michael Lynche returns to the top 40 on AC with “Today” while Season 6 winner Jordin returns to the top 15 on UAC with “Celebrate”.

If that piece of dribble that Taylor Swift just released can get airplay, anything can. Its so annoying and hard to get away from. Its on every flipping channel. “We are never, ever, ever, getting back together. Oh we are never, ever, ever….”. Bleh

Even that song from Taylor Swift has been struggling. It might not go up much further on the chart. There are a lot of bigger stars right now who isn’t exactly racking up spins.
Most country artists on the chart dont get national promotion or the type of promotion that Lauren received for her first two singles, more promotion isn’t necessarily important. The lower you are on the chart the more easier it is for other bigger stars to pass you frequently. There isn’t much a label can do about this. The song just needs to keep on growing consistently, as it has been doing, and it will eventually move forward.
It could be difficult for Lauren to lose her top 40 position, but even if it happens if radio wants the song to move forward then it will recover. There is still one recurrent this week.

I do think that they are hedging their bets, but the label must still be supporting “Don’t Fail Me Now” as the primary single because they just finished shooting a video for it (before any video for “Love Me Now”).

UAC is where Melanie belongs in the first place IMO, but Simon is not gong to see that market as big enough for his winner. Blech.

  • Karen C

Wow, Phillip is doing fantastic !!! Especially the AAA and pop numbers.

If his next single and album do just as well, I think he’ll really have some long term success, if it does well on AAA and pop.

  • jdanton2

Alot of R&B artists release different  songs for  Pop and the R&B formats . Recent example are artists such as Usher and Chris Brown. i think it is a good strategy for Melanie.

  • fuzzywuzzy

How has “Don’t Fail Me Now” done on in CIHR radioplay?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

    Really hard time? Wut?!
Swiftie’s new single is at #11 on Top 40 and it has only been out for  a month. There are songs at #9 and #10 that have large negative bullets. It’s going top 10.

  • girlygirltoo

do you mean AAA and HAC? His pop numbers aren’t great.

  • girlygirltoo

    Um, no…

Taylor Swift is (a) a huge star and (b) her label or management got her a deal with Clear Channel to play that song every hour the first day it was released. That’s a lot different from a less established artist  who doesn’t have a deal with Clear Channel or one of the other radio station conglomerates trying to get radio play

  • girlygirltoo

They posted an update on the Pulse Board a few days ago. At that time the song was #57 on the CHR chart

  • girlygirltoo

In my opinion, Melanie is much better suited to being an Urban AC artist than a pop artist. But XF and her label/mgmt are going to at least attempt to get her a pop hit — better for the show to brag about, and all that.

  • Karen C

It’s in the top 40 on Pop.  I think that’s pretty good.

  • maria4hitz

It is going top 10, but it’s been stuck at 11 for several days and it has 2 songs coming very strong right behind, and they will pass Taylor. They had a +132 and +228 spin updates while Taylor had a +56 spin update. And the songs above WANEGBT with a positive bullet are having much stronger updates than Taylor. I like the song but honestly, she’ll be lucky if the song goes top 5. It’ll depend on its longevitiy inside the top 10.
The song is already a #1 hit so it’s not like going top 10 or top 5 on pop will make it any more successful than it already is. But this shows that getting pop airplay is not easy, not even for Taylor Swift.

  • Chris

I know she’s a huge star but the song is awful. Sorry to anyone who likes it. But that was my point. With the right push, a song, even a bad song, can move quickly. She dropped that single less than a month ago and its everywhere. I think most of my local stations have been bought by clear channel so its unavoidable.

    Trespassing

    2 HAC adds

KCIX-FM Pub 0 Hot AC Boise, ID 19/RCA Peak Broadcasting 101
KWYE-FM Pub 0 Hot AC Fresno 19/RCA Peak Broadcasting 67

  • girlygirltoo

    Well, yes and no.

”Home” is not a song that fits the Pop format at all, so it’s good in that sense. But Top 40 in pop is barely a blip on the radar in that format. It isn’t likely to make PDs at CHR stations automatically want to rush to play his next song. LLWD went Top 10 on CHR and Kris still couldn’t get much CHR play with any of his follow up singles. Same thing with Adam with his follow ups to WWFM (which just missed going Top 10). Phillip doesn’t want to make “pop” music anyway, so I doubt that he’ll end up becoming a mainstay on that chart. AAA and HAC formats are far better bets for his music.

  • girlygirltoo

Phillip is having a nice day in terms of adds, most of which are in the AC format.

    ADDS

    “Home” – 18 (12 AC, 4 Triple A, 2 Top 40)

also, Adam has gotten a couple of HAC adds for Trespassing — we still don’t have an official adds date for that song, do we?

    ADDS

    “Trespassing” – 2 (2 HAC)

  • girlygirltoo

Only huge stars are likely to get those Clear Channel deals. So I wouldn’t expect anyone coming off Idol, The Voice or XF to suddenly get something like this. Most artists do not see their songs shoot up the charts — they struggle for weeks, sometimes months, to even crack the Top 50.

PS – Taylor Swift’s song got a lot of good reviews, at least in the pop music world. I think it’s gotten a much favorable response in the country music world since it is really pure pop, not even trying to pretend to be a country song.

It can be frustrating at times, but I think country radio has actually been more assertive of late. Taylor Swift is currently at #17 and it doesn’t look as if she will be moving up, she will struggle to make the top 15 at the rate she is going currently. The Zac Brown band’s latest single barely made it to #10. Lady Antebellum’s current single is starting to fall without reaching the top 20. Truck Yeah is currently limping along, and it might struggle to reach the top 10. Keith Urban has just been announced as a judge and that hasn’t helped his single from falling before reaching the top 5. I think country radio has been using a bit more discreteness of late, when it comes to material.

The chart is just currently full since there haven’t been a lot recurrents, but as long as someone keeps on gaining every week they will eventually move forward, it is often just a slow process.

  • Chris

I don’t expect an Idol to get Taylor Swift treatment. There should be a middle ground though between feast or famine.

And lucky for her, I’m not a reviewer. Its like it was written by a 15 year old.

  • girlygirltoo

According to Mediabase, “Home” currently has 177 monitored adds. Compare that to the monitored adds received by some of the other more successful singles from Idols:

MONITORED RADIO STATION ADDS (US & CANADA – ALL FORMATS)

    409 – Stronger (Kelly)
396 – No Air (Jordin & Chris Brown)
368 – Before He Cheats (Carrie)
    335 – Home (Daughtry)
    326 – WWFM (Adam)
    320 – LLWD  (Kris)
    297 – Tattoo (Jordin)
288 – Feels Like Tonight (Daughtry)

NOTE: Mediabase doesn’t list the radio adds history for several of the earlier Idols’ early songs, such as  ”A Moment Like This” or “Breakaway” or “Since U Been Gone” or “Flying without Wings” or “Sorry2004″ and only seems to have a partial list for others, such as “Jesus, Take the Wheel”

    Wait… Jermaine Paul. LOL

  • Jaejae1

This is exactly why I don’t take the voice seriously.  The judges are fun. The blind auditions are fun.  But in the end, winning means nothing.
