Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Nov-5-11

Is it cold where you live? Well, it’s starting to get cold on radio as the Christmas freeze creeps closer. Already, we start to see our first invaders from Mr. Cold Miser’s domain with Holiday songs from Rod Stewart, Train and Colbie Caillat charting on AC. The slow down at this time of the year creates a drag on milestones, so we only have one this week…and boy is it a doozy.

Phil Phillip has done what was previously thought impossible and topped the AAA chart with a coronation song. Idols have struggled for years to have any kind of significant impact on that chart. This most granola of charts seemed largely immune to the cheese that is Idol…it almost seemed to feel that Idols were too commercial. So, for the traditionally most cheesiest aspect of Idoldom, the coronation song, to have made it to the top of the Triple A chart…as Vizzini would say “INCONCEIVABLE”. I think only the most ardent P^2 fans who had never been a member of the chart watching crew could have predicted this last May. If there is one thing that Jimmy Iovine as brought to Idol, it is relevant coranation songs. Well played, sir. And well done Phil.

The only other chart note this week is that Casey James returns to the top 20 on Country with “Crying on a Suitcase”.
