Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Nov 26-Dec 1

We have eleven milestones this week to report – eight of those are from Christmas songs including a new number 1.

Kelly Clarkson may not be able to beat those wretched Ducks on album sales, but she is clearly the Queen of Christmas song radio airplay. For the fourth consecutive week, she has three milestones. As predicted, she has accelerated to the top of the AC chart with her original Christmas song “Underneath the Tree”. It moved from 16th last week to 1st this week. Also making a large jump is her “Please Come Home for Christmas” which is now in the top 15. “Blue Christmas” moves into the top 20. Susan Boyle representing BGT has her “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” climb into the top 40. Leona Lewis from X-Factor UK also introduces a Christmas song to the AC chart. “One More Sleep” debuts in the top 50.

Another chart dramatically effected by Christmas songs is the CAC chart. There was a big disruption in the force and older songs are tumbling like rocks. That meant that Mandisa lost her iron grip on the top of the CAC chart (sliding to second), but she did debut a Christmas song rather impressivingly. Her “It’s Christmas” moved from 78th to the top 30. Jason Castro, from Season 7, also landed a Christmas song on the CAC. “Gloria (Hark! The Herald Angels Sing)” moved into the top 50.

A final entry in the Christmas song milestones this week is Fantasia over on UAC. “What Christmas Meanst to Me” of the “Best Man Holiday” soundtrack debuted in the top 40. Also moving up the chart is the title track from her own album, “Side Effects of You”, now in the top 30. Fantasia has four songs on the UAC (top 5, top 20, top 30 and top 40). Candice also has a milestone on the UAC chart with her single “Cried” achieving top 40.

Finally, the story of the week. One Direction’s “The Story of My Life” notches a milestone on HAC by going top 40. While that may not seem all that impressive, the numbers for the album likely will be. They are riding a wave of popularity and Black Friday sales to some very big numbers. Last year, they had two number one albums. This album is unquestionably going to be the number one album in many countries. It all remains to count the numbers. HDD will start releasing estimate numbers today.
