Monday Morning Mediabase Update: June 13-19

Four milestones this week – all from the US and all female.

Carrie Underwood, Season 4 winner of American Idol, starts us off by moving briskly into the top 5 on Country. She does it with a combination of a large bullet (second highest in the format this week) and a few songs going recurrent. “Church bells” is the third single off of her “Storyteller” album and the third to go top 5.

Fifth Harmony notches two milestones this week. Their latest single “All in My Head (Flex)” moves into the top 40 on Pop and the top 20 on Rhythmic (skipping right over top 30). This group from X-Factor US has two songs doing well on those same two charts with “Work from Home” continuing the top 5 on Pop and top 20 on Rhythmic (and top 20 on HAC and top 50 on Urban).

Finally, Lauren Daigle continues to top the CAC chart with “Trust In You”.

Also not giving up the top of the chart? Drake. His “Views” tops the BB200 for a seventh week with 121K equivalent albums (-10% – 74K SEAs (-10%_ 27K sales (-16%) and 21K TEAs (-6%)). BB notes that Drake becomes the first male artist in 16 years to top the chart that long in straight weeks (Eminem was the last with “The Marshal Maters LP”). Of course, Adele also spent that long recently with “25”.

Nick Jonas gets the top debut of the week with “Last Year was Complicated”. It moves 66K equivalent albums (47K in sales) and becomes his highest ranking single album. He also tops the album sales chart. His previous album opened with 37K in sales, so he’s selling more this time around (although still down from the 82K his debut album debuted with).

“Hamilton” is third on the chart (62k (+119%), 45K in sales (+164%)) followed by Beyonce’s “Lemonade” (56K, -19%). Jon Bellion is 5th (40K/32K), Rihanna’s “Anti” is 6th (37K, -7%), Twenty One Pilot’s “Blurryface” climbs to 7th (32K, +4%), Adele ascends to 8th (28K, -5%), Blake Shelton holds at 9th (26K, -15$) and Chris Stapleton returns to the top 10 (27K, +7%)

Led Zeppelin made $58.5M in the last 5 years from their musical works. We found that out during their copyright infringement court case where we also learned that the “Stairway to Heaven” shares the same 5 elements with “Taurus” as it does with the following songs: “My Funny Valentine”, “Michelle” (Beatles) and “Chim Chim Cher-ee” (from Mary Poppins).
