Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Jan 7-13

Mediabase milestones this week from American Idol (seasons 1, 3 and 9) and X-Factor (UK – season 6).

Kelly Clarkson enters the top 10 on HAC with “Catch My Breath”, the song anchoring her Greatest Hits album. The Song has gone top 20 in the three mainstream formats.

Also from Idol is third season winner, Fantasia. She may not know how to tweet, but she definitely knows how to make a successful UAC song. Her latest single “Lose to Win” is storming up the chart. It first appeared on the chart last week and is now in the top 30 (almost top 20). With a strong bullet, this song should do very well.

Finally, from Idol, we have “Crying on a Suitcase” from season 9 third place finisher Casey James. Overcoming an objectifying audition, he has worked diligently on the country circuit and his label has been very patient with this song. It all paid off now that the song is in the top 15 on Country.

Olly Murs represents the X-Factor franchise this week. He’s had a lot of success in the UK market, but this runner-up from Season 6 has failed to make a lasting impact in the US. Pairing with the radio-bait rapper Flo Rida was a good move as their song moves into the top 30 on Pop.

Olly is #98 on iTunes USA. “Army of Two” is his next single in the UK.

  • jpfan2

Home went recurrent on CHR but is still in the top 10 on iTunes. It’s still on track to be the best selling single ever released by an American Idol.

  • Caro3278sweet

I’m so happy for CaseyJ – #14!! A fan can now at least dream of a t10 hit.

  • sdmama

Yay! for Casey James.  Look at it! Who says American Idol is no longer relevant? This is what I call a solid success in music industry. And I think he can still go up from here.

Glad Fantasia has another chance with her talent.  Hopefully, she will take good advice for her career moves from now on.  Glad Casey is doing so good.  Listened to his album last night, love Miss Your Fire.  Hope its the next single.  I don’t know why Kelly and Vince’s single isn’t doing better.  Love it.

Interesting. COAS might have some juice left in it to get to t10. Crossing fingers, toes, eyes and other various body parts.

Interesting. COAS might have some juice left in it to get to t10. Crossing fingers, toes, eyes and other various body parts.</blockquote.

COAS has already been added by almost the whole panel (only 2 stations left). These adds today were pretty random, in fact one of the adds are from one station who has been COAS for a while but for some reason it just never showed up as an auto add until today.

For the past two weeks things have started moving on the chart again, and all of the songs that were done just went recurrent. But the recurrents are done now, for a while. That is why it would be almost impossible Casey to move up.
To actually reach the top 10 would take at the very least around 7 weeks. For the next 3 weeks there will not be any recurrents, and Casey is in a tight spot right now he cant move forward and pass the songs ahead, as the songs ahead are mostly form big artists and people who are going for no.1 on the chart, and no one is quickly going to start falling ahead for Casey. Then at the same time Blake Sheldon is speeding up from behind, he is sure to pass Casey within the next two weeks, and other faster moving people like Lee Brice and Thompson Square are also coming quickly from behind. COAS is more likely to lose places then gain much, and I cant see him sticking around for another 7 – 9 weeks when the song is already old.
