Three milestones this week from three Idols representing season 1, 3 and 11.

Fantasia has her third milestone in as many weeks as “Lose to Win” achieves top 20 on UAC. Fantasia won the third season of Idol and this single is building up awareness for her fourth studio album expected in mid-march.

Kelly Clarkson moves into the top 15 on AC with the new song from her Greatest Hits album called, “Catch My Breath”. The song is top 20 in three formats (top 10 in one)

Finally, Colton Dixon has his first top 20 milestone. Colton was on the most recent edition of American Idol and finished 7th. His lead single, “You Are”, for his debut album being released next week went top 20 on CAC.

1/21/2013 – Itunes- Holiday Albums (LivePopBars)No help from radio and no actual promotion and yet
Christmas With Scotty McCreery # 24

Hmmm… I would have called hosting his own holiday TV special, appearing on multiple TV holiday specials, and being on GMA twice [source] “promotion” for the album. All of those would help explain why the holiday album did well during the holiday season — which it did. It was a well-done campaign, sold a good quantity of albums, and laid the groundwork for his tour announcement.

That, and this past week, McCreery got some more attention in the 16 Most Famous Kids in College Right Now feature. Again, good groundwork for his tour announcement.

But by mid-January, I’d bet holiday album sales are so low that it doesn’t take even 100 copies to be in the top 30.

Gone Gone Gone should get 1 add today. Here are the monitored spins the song received this past week (28 total monitored spins):

15 – KTCZ (Minneapolis) – Triple A station (this is the station that should add GGG this week)
6 – CIDR (Detroit) – Triple A station (this is the 1 station that has already officially added GGG; did so on Jan. 7th)
      2 – WTTS (Indianapolis) – Triple A station

Yes yes, but most promotion was still during the holidays and not in the after x-mas period. I don´t know how effective the “Most famous kids …” were in regard of his Christmas album and maybe most importantly the album has been and is still selling with no or hardly radioplay. I keep thinking the past and actual position is quite amazing.

Being #24 on the Holiday chart in mid-January doesn’t mean a whole lot. The #1 holiday album probably didn’t sell much. It’s like having the #24 best selling polka album or something.

Bottom line if the album didn’t make the BB200 it’s not selling very many units. Just keeping it real. :0

  • LongKissGoodnight

We actually had Billboard’s ‘Top Country Albums’ leaked last week, and though last entry on it has sold 1,137 copies, NONE of the Christmas albums have made it on the chart.
So you can see, that being 24th on the list of albums that currently are selling less then 1000 a week is not exactly a tall order. Probably like Eilonwy said all it takes hundreds at best.

That is not to imply that Scotty’s album was anything but successful, because it was (and it had a well executed campaign to help it get there), we will just have to wait for another holliday season when Christmas albums start moving units again to see meaningful figures.

  • LongKissGoodnight

    Yes!
With No. 1 on Adult Contemporary “Home” gets it’s whopping 7th Billboard number one.
And with ‘The World from the Side of the Moon’ fifth weeks, if I am not mistaken, run as #1 on Rock Albums this is 8 chart topped for Phillip.

I am getting quiet horsy here with all the happy sounds, but Woo Hoo!
Now, dear Interscope, could we kindly get an adds date for Gone, Gone, Gone?

  • LongKissGoodnight

Billboard predicts #1 debut for  A$AP Rocky, who could sell around 140,000.

And #2 for “Kidz Bop 23″ album, with around 65,000 copies sold.
So far, the brand has sold 13.2 million albums in the United States. That figure includes all of the regular “Kidz Bop Kids” albums (Vols. 1-22) along with the line’s spin-off sets (like “Kidz Bop Christmas” and “Kidz Bop Halloween Party”).
While the Kidz Bop franchise has racked up 34 entries on the Billboard 200 chart, it has yet to earn a No. 1 set. But it does have four No. 2 titles to its name — a number that will likely grow to five next week.

The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan’s tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

  • Happyhexer

Don’t wanna be a jinx, so *fingers crossed*, but I’m hoping that Casey James’ “Crying On A Suitcase” is the little song that could, and continues to claw its way into the Top 10.  Probably not gonna happen, but IMHO it deserves to.  Good song!

  • jpfan2

Another week in the top 10 for P2′s album would be great. Unfortunately in  January the total sales number will not be great. However if the album was still in the top 10 before Xmas, it would already be platinum. Anyway, I’m more than ready for GGG to be released. I think they’ll hold off until Home is out of the top 10 in iTunes. That has to happen eventually!

  • TheOther

Today is the 2 mo release of The World Of The Side Of The Moon.  Phillip has about 360k to go before Platinum.  He is back on the road with his college tours and MB20 shows.  I’m sure Interscope will do a big roll out with GGG.  Even more buzz – it is now between Stronger and Home as the best selling Idol song of all time.

  • jpfan2

I don’t think GGG should  be the Idol boot song. P2 really is the anti-Idol winner all the others were supposed to be but weren’t. Triple A radio looks on board to play GGG so why “cheese” it up by using it on Idol.

I think Home will reach 4xplat months before P2′s album goes platinum. It won’t be easy selling another 380K albums.

  • maymay

No matter whether Idol uses GGG as the boot song, it still will become hit. I think if GGG is used as the boot song, that is its honor. If people think Idol has stigma so GGG shouldn`t be used as the boot song, that is too calculated and disrespectful.

I don`t appreciate PP`s anti idol. That attitude makes him like a hypocrite who auditioned for Idol and won but dissed Idol. I can understand why PP is anti Idol because he is one of rabid Dave Matthew fans who always hate Idol. But he had tried Idol and won, he has no qualification against Idol anymore. If he continues to diss Idol, he will continues to be dissed.

His problem is he thinks he is beyond Idol. But if he really had been beyond Idol, he never would had auditioned for Idol. That means he lacked great talent so he needed to try Idol. Don`t forget Fun, Gotye, Mumford and Son, The Luminners have the same genre like PP, but they don`t aufditioned for reality show. So PP is more like a opportunitist.

PP is often contradictive and immature. Im his fan but I just don`t think his words and behaviors are always right. He sometimes is like a douche.

  • potatorocks

I see Philip as a very humble and grateful Idol winner.     I find him to be mature, funny and charming.

I didn’t mean P2 is against Idol. I mean he is a winner who may be outside of the bubble. Sorry if anti came across as confusing. There are always winners that supposedly “broke” the show but in the end can’t move past their Idol fanbase.

I think already more people know P2 from Home than know him from Idol.  Also he is not the big voiced traditional winner the show usually produces. So in that sense he is “anti-Idol.”

Just like LDCIAN, COAS is another little song that keeps chugging along. He got t15 with it – that was my goal for him. It built on the success of his first single and went higher. Progress. So I’m happy. t10 would be the cherry on the top.

The bigger news IMHO is that Casey James is really starting to establish himself in the country scene with nary an AI presence at all. It’s been over three years since he’s been on the show. Radio is not playing him because of AI. Bars like Billy Bob’s and casinos in Vegas are not booking him because of AI fame. His label is not planning on releasing a third single and doing a sophomore album because he was an idolette.

Like girlygirl and others have said… Success after the show is about producing the music that’s authentically you and then finding the fans that like that music. I’d say Casey James is well on his way to doing that.
