Like most weeks lately, the big news in the radio milestone department is from Kelly Clarkson. This amazing Season 1 Idol winner hit 2 milestones this week. “Stronger” went to number one on HAC and given its commanding lead there, it is likely to top that chart for quite some time (the four songs below it are dropping and the nearest song with a bullet is almost 1800 spins behind). It’s conceivable that she could top both the Top 40 and HAC charts next week. The song also eachived top 15 on AC.

Also amazing? Carrie Underwood. Her debut single from her 4th studio album has been available for 10 days and it is already in the top 20 on Country. That is traditionally a very slow moving chart so it’s rare to see a song like “Good Girl” moving so quickly. This song also seems destined to hit number one.

Also over on Country is our latest winner, Scotty McCreery. The debut single, “The Trouble With Girls”, from his debut album has hit top 15 in the format. There are 5 quick moving songs behind it. Will his label try to stick it out for the slow grind to top 10 or will it release an uptempo single in the near future?

Besides Kelly, there were two other Idol Milestones on AC this week. Elliott Yamin’s debut single from his third album (not including his Christmas EPs) has achieved top 30 while Adam Lambert’s debut single from his second album is now top 40.

Jennifer Hudson’s “Think Like a Man” from the movie of the same name achived top 30 on UAC (giving her two songs in the top 30 of that format and the song itself is top 40 in two formats). Mandisa also has two songs on one chart with her “Good Morning” achieving top 40 on CAC.

Finally, we have some UK X-Factor news with One Direction achieving a top 40 on Pop. This was a made up boy-band that Simon is having luck marketing all over the world. It’s made from a bunch of young males who tried out as soloists, but got combined into a group. Worked out well for them.

Kelly’s “Mr. Know It All” and Daughtry’s “Crawling Back to You” both went recurrent on HAC today.

The first American Idol STILL can burn up the charts!

I am very happy for the chart milestones of three of my favorite Idols – Kelly, Carrie and Scotty.

It seems that “What Doesn’t Kill You” is shaping up to be the biggest hit of Kelly’s career. Given that her career’s already a decade-old, that’s quite an impressive feat! WDKY is likely to stay at #1 of Billboard Hot 100 for 1-2 more weeks, while it is likely to lord over the HAC and AC charts for many more weeks!

Carrie is surely a force in country music. I hope they release the video of “Good Girl” immediately. The song will be reaching number one in no time!

I’m happy to see Scotty’s “The Trouble With Girls” reaching Top 15, with Gold sales. Nobody expected that given that the song was underestimated the first time it was released to radio. I’m still hoping it would chart higher, but I am ready for a new Scotty song!!!

    Congrats to all with milestones!

Carrie is such a force in country that it might make it easy to underestimate how hard it is for everyone else (not named Carrie or Jason or Keith, etc.):)  So,  special congrats to Scotty:)))

LOL – Still remember a lot of ppl underestimated this song TTWG at the beginning, Ha ha ha…….Look at it now, not only it peaked at #15 but also GOLD status… The same way like ILYTB when it came out, but now, ILYTB sold 786,633 up to date… LOL

YES YES YES…. Such a happy way to slap at the haters’ face….. Happy dancing… wow wow wow… ha ha ha….

I don’t know about “haters”, but I think a lot of Scotty’s fans, and those who know the format, still think that a more upbeat song would have been a better choice.  Top 15 is a hit, but I don’t know if this song does a lot to help Scotty shed the image that he’s more than just the guy who won AI.  It may have done that, nobody knows at this point, but what we do know is that the song was released to appease the typical AI fanbase more than to attract new fans.  The labels that have signed idol alums have made this mistake in the past, even if the songs have charted or sold well.  In the long run, where artists development is concerned, the decisions didn’t help the artists.

I believe what Scottyasia refers to as “haters” are those who called the song a flop at first. The song was released to the radio without any promotion and sold only around 70k in its first month – I still remember clearly what a lot of people said at this point. TTWG no longer has the selling advantage of a coronation single like ILYTB, it also has to fight its way on radio chart like a new single of a brand new country artist. After reaching gold, currently, it is still selling around 20k/week – much more stable than how ILYTB once was. While not setting the chart on fire, TTWG still reach a remarkable position on radio chart, surviving the Christmas freeze last year. And I see every article from country music call TTWG a hit song. So I don’t think those called it flop now can say that again.

I don’t think TTWG help Scotty much in winning radio support (he is doing that now on the road actually), but I do think this song helps Scotty win a lot of new fans. I see positive tweets and comments about this song everyday, surprisingly many from guys who think the song speak out their thoughts. Besides, even though Scotty has many elder fans who love his family songs like Dirty Dishes and That Old King James, TTWG helps to build up his youthful image to young fans. And the truth is I see young girls screaming  for him at every concert and events that he attended, his mechandise also sold quite well at concerts. So, while it’s true that I prefer an uptempo song as the 2nd single for the sake of better radio reception, I still think TTWG has done some good favour for Scotty in terms.

I guess TTWG has peaked. It reached No 15 on mediabase but very likely lower on Billboard, the official record. ILYTB surpassed 20 million in AI while TTWG only surpassed 18 million in AI. Anyway, I am still very proud of what TTWG has achived, like I do with ILYTB. Can’t wait for the next single (which I believe is “You make that look good”) – hopefully he will perform in when he is back at AI and at ACM Awards.

I love how the standard for successful is constantly moving. It’s a flop if you don’t chart, no it’s a flop if you only make it into the bottom of the chart, no it’s a flop if you aren’t screaming up the chart, wait it’s a flop if you sell X in the US, wait you have to tour, no you have to tour this BIG, this long, this many and make this much and on and on.  What ever.

  • everything

Slow and steady = translates to sluggish and struggling.

At the pace BTIKM is performing, it is more of a song for an unknown artist who is releasing their first single.  Not someone who has been so hyped as much as Lambert has.

  • ronnie

I always knew BTIKM would do okay on HAC but what’s been pushed down our throats is that Adam is a “pop” star, not an HAC star, and on the pop format, it definitely has been a flop and is now dead.

  • LaurelG

I agree with you, Ronnie D.  I feel like the radio promo is just starting to kick in.  Adam is blitzing the DFW area today and he’ll be on Kidd Kraddick tomorrow live, the #1 Top 40 show in that area and one that is nationally syndicated to over 50 other stations.  Plus, Kellie Rasberry, one of Kraddick’s sidekicked tweeted that Adam will perform in the show’s canalside lounge today at 10am.  I believe they post videos of the performances on their website.

    KiddNation.com

And he has three autoadds already today …

Apparently the video is No. 5 this week on the Chinese MV international Chart …

Lots of good things happening for Adam.

  • Anonymous

So happy to see Casey J finally got an add from Chicago!

  • Anonymous

It’s all an expectations game.  Last era for Adam and even this era, you would see #ADAMSTORM posted all over in here & on twitter, talk about massive promotion and I think even Adam said his single would be “exploding” in November (or whenever he first started tweeting news about his single).  So, if a song isn’t barreling up the charts with the previous hyperbole setting expectations, then there is the perception of underperforming.  That’s the problem with hype, at some point you have to live up to it.

If anyone’s fanbase should be talking about STORMS, it’s Carrie’s and Kelly’s! That’s what a storm looks like to me.

  • Tess

Ronnie….just curious.  How has the “pop star” label for Adam been pushed down our throats.  Are these words just the musings of a fanbase or has their been a media blitz that “says” Adam will be the next great “pop” star.  From most everything I have read from the beginning of the BTIKM release is that it fit in nicely within the HAC formula but wasn’t quite what is being played on Pop.  I know I’ve seen Adam called a rock star, a celebrity, a recording star but I don’t think the “pop” label has been his main mantra.  I may be mistaken, though.

  • Kirsten

If anyone’s fanbase should be talking about STORMS, it’s Carrie’s and Kelly’s! That’s what a storm looks like to me.

    Those are category 5 storms.

  • Anonymous

Well, that’s a good question for his label, actually. They clearly picked a HAC song to lead things off with.  We will never know what their strategy was in doing this.  But someone at RCA made this decision.

Now we know that the UK is, wisely, getting a different single. And this song will be something uptempo and most likely is one of the pop songs that UK press heard and were crazy about. And logically this song will be the next single in the US, as well.

So, clearly RCA sees Adam as more than just BTIKM. And he isn’t getting only one single. In other words, “pop Adam” is coming; they just didn’t choose to open that way.

  • Anonymous

I think Adam is perceived as being part of the current pop culture.   I think BTIKM leans more towards HAC then pop but he did have two pop hits on his last album and this current album hasn’t even been released.

I still think the hype argument stems back from S8 when many felt Adam stole Kris’s thunder as the winner.   To me, Adam seems to be getting the normal promo in the US.   He’s getting some buzz for the Queen gigs and he seems to be getting some nice song reviews from the UK.

  • windmills

elliegrll: but I think a lot of Scotty’s fans, and those who know the format, still think that a more upbeat song would have been a better choice.

Exactly. I think we knew Scotty was going to make t20 with just about anything that was released after ILYTB but we also figured that TTWG wasn’t going to be the single to take him to the next level and get him a t10 hit.

I’m a little surprised TTWG managed to hold off Jason’s Fly Over States for the Mediabase week but that might have been Mercury Nashville knowing what it’s doing. FOS passed TTWG this morning, and the singles from Zac Brown Band and Carrie are likely to pass this week with no recurrents so TTWG will drop back to #18. I don’t think TTWG will hit t15 on Billboard. It took a small AI hit in this morning’s update on Mediabase and Zac Brown Band and Carrie both have higher AIs on Mediabase now. That means it’ll be a tight race at Billboard with 3 recurrents going (Toby Keith, The Band Perry, and Luke Bryan). Jason’s song definitely passed TTWG at Billboard. So, at best TTWG wound up at #17 Billboard and at worst it’ll hold at #19. I think it’ll end up at #18 with Good Girl passing next week. I tend to agree with hoa_teca that TTWG has peaked and it’s time to move on. But, I don’t think it did much of anything for him in any country demographic.

Good Girl will end the week anywhere between #16 and #19 at Billboard but my guess is it wound up at #19, closely trailing Scotty, Zac Brown Band, and Jason in that order. Obviously a great 1st full week.

CaseyJ had a rough week at Mediabase which I expect to transfer to Billboard. I think he’s just a tough spot in the charts with several established or superstar acts passing. He’s going to get passed by Rodney Atkins and Eli Young Band this week on Mediabase and probably got passed by Josh Turner and Eli Young Band at Billboard (in addition to Carrie). So his focus should be trying to stay ahead of the next pack of songs: Gloriana, Jana Kramer, and Andy Gibson (who’s further behind at Billboard than Mediabase). LDCIAN needs to have a recovery this week.

Lauren also had a flat AI week at Mediabase but there isn’t a lot going on around her. Alan Jackson picked up some against her but still isn’t tracking to pass this week.

    LOL, spin is everything.

BTIKM is only one song. A new, uptempo CHR song is coming soon. Personally, I would let BTIKM break top 20 and then introduce the second single.

  • Anonymous

If anyone’s fanbase should be talking about STORMS, it’s Carrie’s and Kelly’s! That’s what a storm looks like to me.

MJ given that my comments were my opinions (based on comments seen here all of the time) and not directed personally at any one I don’t see why they were deleted!

  • YankeeFan08

Adam mentioned recently that he had listened to a couple remixes of BTIKM.  I wonder if one of these remixes will be released to CHR stations.  It seems like a remix would be a better fit for some CHR stations, especially NY stations like Z100, WKTU and WBLI.  I definitely do think though that his next single will be one of the uptempo tracks, probably the same one being released in the UK as Chicagolaw said.

  • Anonymous

Well, I’ll give Adam more than a few months and one HAC song to “live up to the hype.”  Let’s see how the album does first.

  • mmb

Adam has been marketed as a pop star by both his label and management. Which is why everything surrounding btikm has been so head scratching: the album itself has been marketed as a dance/pop album. That’s how Rolling Stone described it, that’s how all the British press that’s heard it described it ( w a ballad or two thrown in). But RCA released an hac leaning lead single a week before Xmas, lead off with some big market hac adds, sent it to hac for adds first, scheduled no us radio promo til mid february etc etc. I’m glad to see him doing a radio tour in the us ( never understood why he didn’t do one era 1… He only did one abroad). But it looks like the UK finally listened to the feedback and are releasing a different lead single. Still suspect an uptempo more pop- friendly second single will precede cd release in the US. And for whatever it’s worth btikm continues to make progress at hac in the states.

  • Anonymous

This isn’t a smash yet, at least not in the US. Top 40 on CHR is nice but it doesn’t equal a smash. It is continuing to climb nicely, so there’s a good chance it will make Top 20, anyway.

  • http://twitter.com/Scottyasia Scottyasia

LOL – Seriously, did my post deserve to be deleted ? LOL

I just did my happy dancing when I saw TTWG hit top 15 and sold so well, so I can’t call some folks who called TTWG was a flop single right at the first releasing day as the “haters”?
I don’t know how do you doubt about its successful, and sure I don’t know the format as well as some of you guys do in here, but when I saw ppl singing this song so loud alone with Scotty on the concerts, I believe it has been doing really well. In fact it gained a lot of new fans because it has been sold at least 20K each every week for months… If a single with GOLD status plus top 15 is considered as a poor/not good/so-so choice… etc… so how do we say about a lot of the songs releasing at the same time but none them achieved such credits as ILYTB and TTWG have had?

And don’t worry, with the bad/so-so song choice, Scotty still got GOLD and top 15 hit, then definitely he will have Platinum and hits even top 5 when the label releases a better choice… But then I’m sure there are some ppl still saying that song appeases to typical AI fanbase and doesn’t do any good for his career development in long run….LOL…

We are all just the observers. Let’s see how the 3rd single could do…

  • Anonymous

Slow and steady is the norm for singles. Only a very few artists see their songs fly up the charts (Kelly and Carrie being 2 of them). BTIKM is making steady progress up the Hot AC charts and will likely end up going Top 20, at least. It’s not selling great, but the best selling singles tend to be the ones that are huge hits on Pop or Rhythmic radio. Hot AC play doesn’t seem to equal great sales, for whatever reason.

Adam already has 3 adds today, so the song is continuing to grow.

I don’t see anyone on here worrying about Chris Rene’s single, and that’s not exactly blowing up the charts, either. I think Adam is doing ok — maybe expectations simply need to be scaled back a little bit

  • Anonymous

I saw that Good Girl already has a couple of Hot AC adds today, so it looks like the label will be pushing the single as a potential crossover hit

  • windmills

They’re autoadds from stations that have played songs of her in the past (not just BHC, also Cowboy Casanova and Undo It) so I don’t think it means too much yet. I’ll be surprised if there’s any push for GG on other formats before it peaks at country radio. At the most there may be some testing going on for a possible later push.

BTIKM is climbing the HAC charts at the same rate as The Truth did, and I can’t see any indication that it is going to change.

It had a boost last week with some Cumulus station adding, but now it is back to limping.

This is not a follow up single, this is the lead single for a new era
after 18 months break off radio, and I don’t think that it is a good
    situation to be in.

At this rate, the song will peak around the time the album drops with a
low AI that won’t be enough to generate substantial album sales.

The hope is that Adam doesn’t waste his Idol performance on this song, but
uses it for the second one, and it has to be a killer single. The boost
and buzz may create enough traction for album sales, and a good start
    for the single.

His second single has better be the kind that sets the charts on fire, otherwise it’s not going to be pretty!

The problem with so much radio coverage of Kelly’s song is that a perfectly good song is now becoming the song I’m tired of hearing, much like LMFAO and Moves Like Jagger.  Seems like they play it every 15 minutes. So, back to the ipod…..

  • Anonymous

The way I see it, Adam gets a lot of hype/attention from the press that is greater than his sales might indicate.   He is a fascinating and very charismatic person.  This interest is a huge plus for his career even if sales do not match the hype.  For one thing, it really helps him fell seats for his live concerts.  It also brings in more international fans I would think.  To a degree, when you are treated like a star in the press tabloid or otherwise, you are a star.

I believe that had there been an upbeat song like YMTLG or WTT released as the 2nd single, we’d be talking about a #1 hit now, not just a top 15.  Mercury screwed up with this choice in the perception area of who Scotty really is as an artist.  Lets pray its not too late for the doubting stations to give single #3 which will be YMTLG a real chance of hitting the top 10 or even #1.

  • Anonymous

That’s where I’m at! I am starting to change the channel now when it comes on, and I absolutely loved it a month ago. That is the one downside when stations spin a song almost every hour.

  • Anonymous

Yes, we need to see how the album does.  My point was that fans of any artist can set expectations unrealistically, then if the song doesn’t perform as hyped, others point out it’s not living up to the hype.  I personally don’t see how all the storm talk does Adam any favors.

  • Anonymous

BTIKM is growing, but it is going to come to a point where RCA is just going to make the decision to cut it off. They are going to want a more “immediate” single out when the album drops.

That’s the trouble with HAC. Unless you are Katy Perry (or Kelly’s Stronger:)) the format is SLOW. And I think RCA is only going to give it so much time.

I have no idea at this point what Adam will sing on Idol.

  • Anonymous

Kelly has announced her 3rd single, right? So hopefully they will release it soon. I still like “Stronger”, but I don’t need to hear it every hour on the radio

  • Nele621

    Storm talk?

Anyway, didn’t Cook do a lot of promo like Adam is doing now, but radio still didn’t spin his two singles? Sure is a lot of work for little return for both of them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/cathy.mcguirekosak Cathy Mcguire Kosak

I like that song too but I really like ” Better Than That”.My 2 grandaughters sing this word for word ( 18 & 17 )…and they normally like garage band music..yuk!!!

  • gferna

Haven’t heard much about Daughtry lately…  Does he has a new single? How is he doing right now?

  • LaurelG

Consider the situation with Selena Gomez’s I Love You Like a Love Song.  It impacted radio on August 20, 2011, but didn’t start receiving major airplay until November.  Last week it peaked at 22 on the BB 100 after 35 weeks on the chart!  And it’s considered a mid-tempo pop song.

Moreover, the song is being played simultaneously right now on all three major Chicago stations, the HAC, TOP 40 and the Rhythmic Contemporary (cross between a Top 40 and Urban station).  The first one to add the song was the Rhythmic station which added it on August 29th of last year.  Last week they gave it 79 spins!  And they only play a faster, slightly remixed version of the song which seemingly counts as spins towards the regular song since it shows up that way on Mediabase.  (Both the HAC and Top 40 stations play the regular version.)

My point is that it’s really hard to compare trajectories of songs and say one song is following the path of another because in reality there are many different paths up that chart.  I understand that BTIKM leans HACish, but that may just make its climb a little slower.

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

People worry too much about Adam’s career. Adam is doing just fine. His first single on his first era was pulled by RCA and Adam went on to get 2 Top 20 hit songs. WWFM went on to go top#10 in over 30 countries and earning him a Grammy nom. The album is close to 2milion WW with over 5 million singles just in the US. The only people who care about Adam’s hype is non fans. If his label felt he didn’t live up to their standards he wouldn’t have gotten a second album with the label giving him more resources. All fan bases want their Idol to do well and if they expect the very best, so what. If anybody is hyping Adam it’s the media and they can do whatever they want. He is accepted among his peers and music industry alike. Even with all his little radio play it hasn’t stop him from getting top gigs, media print and great promo. Every artists goal eventually is to be able to tour and fill seats so they can make money. Radio hits don’t put money in an artist pocket unless they are selling millions of singles and albums and that ain’t happening to any Idol. Both Kelly and Carrie make their money on touring. Adam keeping his name out there is just another way of letting the public know who he is and hopefully they will show up when he headlines his next tour. I would hold on to the flop hat until a year from now  and see how Adam does.

Cook, Daughtry and tons of other artists do radio promo. It is a lot of work, but they all do it.

Next up for radio promo and weeks of radio shows: Kris! Sit back and enjoy!

  • Anonymous

Kelly has hinted at two possible ones. I’m sure they aren’t going to send out anything else when her current single is smashing at CHR!

I’m afraid you are going to here Stronger every hour for a while. That’s what happens with #1 songs! It’s a nice problem to have. lol

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

Does anyone know Kelly’s total album and single sales?

  • Anonymous

Tess I would say articles like this indicate Adam is regarded as a pop star by the media. Actually I do think the pop label has been his “main mantra.” I wouldn’t use the term “pushed down our throats” as Ronnie did, but whatever. I really don’t know what the original point was, but yes, I think the media does call him a pop star, or pop artist.

And Haley! And I think Chris Rene is in the midst of doing a bunch of radio promo. :)

I have a 4 yr. old, so I can tell you that the ”I Love You Like A Love Song” video was playing all the time on the Disney channel last summer. I was shocked when I just started hearing it on Chicago CHR in the past month. Songs take lots of different paths.

These are the latest numbers according to Billboard:

    Album Sales: 11,219,000
    Track Sales: 19,526,000
    Radio Plays: 5,197,000
    YouTube Plays: 194,160,919

Her worldwide album sales are around 23 million, that’s the last I heard.

Meh. Stans are always guilty of OTT hyperbole and inability of keeping perspective when it comes to their favorites. The best way to deal with it is just to laugh and shrug.

Just the other day Vision of love was one of the best songs of 2012 and a artistic masterpiece blending genres like no other song before.

My point was that fans of any artist can set expectations unrealistically, then if the song doesn’t perform as hyped, others point out it’s not living up to the hype.

Yeah sorry i don’t get this part. I’ve been on the internet long enough to know not to take stans’ opinions seriously. Blaming them for having unrealistic expectations and hold them accountable in any way sounds just ludicrous to me.

Stans are stans. They love their artist and think everything they do is so amazing and special. When something goes wrong they blame labels, management companies, other artists (or their fans) on the same label/management company, write letters, petitions etc. It happens all the time.

As i said the best way to deal with it is just laugh and shrug. We all live in a glass house, it’s better not to throw any stones, let alone big boulders ;)

  • Anonymous

according to last Wednesday’s sales post, her album has sold abt 617K, while the single “Stronger” has sold more than 1.7 million and MKIA more than 1.3 million

LOL, I agree with almost all of this. I was originally responding to people not understanding why some might be questioning the song’s performance.  But eh, I don’t care enough either way to continue thinking about it.  Hype from any fanbase is irritating to me, whether it’s an artist I like or not.

  • http://twitter.com/Justin_J9 Justin

lol ia, it’s irritating in both cases

maria4hitz, Sorry I was asking for her current album.

^^^Ain’t that the real truth. Adam gets accused of being hyped and than when you go on the official and fan sites of those calling him hype they are bitching and whining about how their guy isn’t getting the promo, attention from RCA. They want to know what the hell their management is doing. Didn’t one fan base send an open letter to RCA demanding that their guy get attention since he is a winner? All over the top behavior. And SMH when RCApromo tweets about Adam and they get tweets back about them needing to stop pimping Adam. Adam’s label, management need to stop doing their jobs by making Adam happen happen.

  • http://twitter.com/riskyladyfla MAS

Adam is only about halfway through his US radio promo; he’ll be in Dallas/Houston 1 more day, then I believe Nashville, Atlanta (radio + concert), DC, Boston, Hartford, Kansas City and Portland on the west coast. So, still time for a little more radio progress hopefully. The last one, Portland, is 3/25.

While everyone in the bubble is stressing over Adam, crowing over Carrie and Kelly and wondering about Scotty ;-), CaseyJ has quietly being doing a TON of shows and also scheduling new ones – most of them tied to a radio station. Here’s a taste:

    1/21/12 Milwaukee, WI
    1/27/12 Nashville, TN
    2/4/12 Des Moines, IA
    2/7/12 Las Vegas, NV
    2/11/12 Angel Fire, NM
    2/12/12 Cranston, RI
    2/13/12 Southington, CT

    2/15/12 Akron, OH
    2/16/12 St. Clair Shores, MI
    2/17/12 Winston, NC
    2/21/12 Nashville, TN
    3/1/12 Foxborough, MA
    3/2/12 Brick, NJ
    3/3/12 Mount Laurel, NJ
    3/4/12 Towson, MD
    3/7/12 St. Louis, MO
    3/9/12 Macon, GA
    3/10/12 Melbourne, FL
    3/16/12 Nashville, TN – GOO
    3/23/12 Fort Worth, TX – Billy Bob’s

    4/18/12 Rochester, NY
    4/20/12 Winston-Salem, NC
    4/28/12 Harrisburg, PA
    5/10/12 St. Louis Park, MN
    6/1/12 Buffalo, NY
    7/20/12 Angelica, NY
    7/21/12 Twin Lakes, WI

This is on top of the 30+ shows he did last fall all over the country. I would also expect that April/May/June/July will fill up as time moves forward – almost every day there’s a new concert announced on TheCaseyJamesBlog.

I wonder if this low key, taking it right to the local radios/venues, building a fan base without any big flash, no TV, no big tours, no big ads or hype - but having a song rising up the charts plus a vid on the big countdown shows - will be effective in building a long term career not based on his AI fame at all really. It’s going to be interesting to watch this play out.

^^^Every artist is different and requires different promo to fit for that artist. I think it’s great how Casey has been slowly doing his thing and I am rooting for him. Season 9 really needs a breakout star and I think Casey can do it and his good looks doesn’t hurt neither. I’m not big on country but I love Casey’s vibe.

Yes, we need to see how the album does.  My point was that fans of any
artist can set expectations unrealistically, then if the song doesn’t
perform as hyped, others point out it’s not living up to the hype.  I
personally don’t see how all the storm talk does Adam any favors.

MJ, you kept the posts that make Adam fans look crazy but deleted post that didn’t out right mention any Idol names that do the same.

    Reminder:

Keep your remarks focused on the idols, NOT your fellow posters. Don’t question motives of posters. If your comment includes complaints about “non-fans” or generalizes about how or  what is being posted in the threads, I’m going to delete it–even if you aren’t addressing anyone specifically.

Taking that kind of super-defensive posture just leads to arguments down the road.  Nobody here should have to defend their right to have an opinion.

According to some fans who attended Adam’s radio interview today, he said it’s “almost Maypril” and that his next single will be a “massive dance song”.  YAY for both!!

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

So complaints about Adam fans hyberhole is OK. My post about Adams 1st era had no complaints about other fans.

Yay for BTIKM moving up! Up is always good in radio charts. So yay!

Ronnie….just curious.  How has the “pop star” label for Adam been pushed down our throats.

The idea that anyone who doesn’t do well on the pop charts is a failure has been pushed repeatedly.  There have been those who have said that someone isn’t good enough for pop, or that only Adam and Kelly are pop.  Before Stronger, sometimes even Kelly was left out of that.

In the big picture, it doesn’t matter.  What does matter is will the song be where it needs to be when the album comes out.  Ideally, the label would want it charting on as many charts as possible, so it can reach as many ears as possible.   In this regard, Pop is not at some level above the other formats just because it’s pop, but songs that are getting played on that format have the chance to be spun a lot more during the week on individual stations, so they are likely to reach more people.   That doesn’t mean that any other formats should be ignored, I’ve noticed that the general perception of Hot AC has changed over the past few months.

He has being doing a lot of shows that’s for sure! Another new show just posted on the blog today is scheduled for 3/28/12 in Folsom, CA.

Way to go Scotty… He’s back in the Top 10 Country!

How has the general perception of Hot AC changed in the past few months?  I think it is agreed by everyone that it is better to have a pop hit because it is the largest market and therefore a song has the potential to sell more.   I’m not sure if people necessarily think pop is a superior genre, but rather, that format seems to reach more people.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AGWO435FL6UN2ICRVTFLWRJZSA Lexie

I think he was #10 country last week, since The Civil Wars counted as folk?   Hope so, and hope he keeps this position, too:))

  • Anonymous

In defense of hyperbole, making OTT positive statements is one of the joyful parts of being a fan.  It is an activity that one doesn’t get to engage in very often in our reality based everyday life. I love to do it, and love to read the hyperbole of other fans and other fan bases.  It is one of the reasons I come here.

  • Anonymous

Kelly is a pop artist. She has had a decade’s worth of hits that charted in the top 10 and top 20 on CHR. Stronger isn’t her first Pop hit!

  • Anonymous

Also there are no real life consequences to idol hyperbole.  :)   If we were to try and engage in that same level of hyberbole at work, well it wouldn’t be pretty.  “you mean this isn’t the best memo evah!?”

  • koshka

    LOL..

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SYFK77IYLRQIVATQ2MJKSW2J7Y Pam

As far as the numbers for Scotty’s CD goes, by the time the final chart comes out tomorrow, his position could go a little higher, or it may drop a bit.  That goes for any of the ones listed on this chart.  :)

  • Anonymous

I can’t answer that question, since doing so wouldn’t be talking about a specific idol alum.

  • Anonymous

Scotty was in the Top 10 country albums last week according to Billboard. He was #10 for Billboard Country Albums. The Civil Wars is considered a folk group on Billboard, even though they are played on CMT & The Country Network.

  • sagi

I am happy with Adam’s progress. It is not Carrie or Kelly huge but at least it is out there and getting play and charting. I think he is doing fine by my book. Would I like to see him smash? Well of course! But you know, all things considered I think he is doing well. Heck, I’ve been a little busy, but last time I saw a Idols on the radio thread, Adam was in the 800′s on Itunes and now in the 400′s. So I guess something is working in his favor! :) Glad to see Carrie, Scotty, and Kelly doings so well! Hopefully some day my Adam will be burning up the charts in the way they are! *fingers crossed :)

  • Anonymous

My kind of definition for shoved-down-the-throat songs are those that don’t do well on sales in spite of huge airplay or when airplay position becomes just a bragging right esp when songs below them are selling more. Hopefully BTIKM is not that.

  • Anonymous

Does Scotty have a song on his album that country fans think would make a great single?I like Scotty but I haven’t heard his album because country music is
like a foreign language to me. I don’t believe there is a country radio station in NYC.

You said something to the effect of Kelly wasn’t seen as a pop star, until recently with Stronger.

I think  I’m going to have to start quoting your comments, because when you delete them and then say you didn’t say something, it looks like I pulled my comment from thin air! LOL

Chris toured 26 radio stations on the WEST COAST within 6 days alone lol! No wonder he’s getting lots of adds and majority of the stations he toured are yet to add him, so I’m expecting lots of adds this week for him. SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT just put out a press release. YOUNG HOMIE finally has an itunes release date and it’s March 13th. He’s appearing on ELLEN SHOW  that same day!

Really no different then what every rising artist has been doing  like Lauren Hunter Hayes Love and Theft on and on the list could go .  He also has been an opener on a major tour hasn’t he?  I am sure he will be again this year.  In fact him and Lauren are together at the 4/18 event.  I also do not buy he has no boost from being on AI he was very popular I am sure some fanbase still exsist.  I think he is doing great but  not really doing it any differently then most others.  None of these rising artist get much TV exsposure (exception Lauren with AI and GP promo) It will play out as it does for all of them some make it some do not. They all ,even Scotty, must do this same sort of radio promo stuff or they will not make it.

  • Anonymous

You said something to the effect of Kelly wasn’t seen as a pop star, until recently with Stronger.

No, what I said is that people have said that Kelly and Adam are the only ones that people have said fit on pop, and that until Stronger, sometimes Kelly was left out of that group.

If you don’t believe that’t what I said, fine.  It seems to matter more to you than it does to me.

    Carrie (37)-GG
    Casey J (5)-LDCIAN
    Lauren (3)-GP

Carrie now has all but four of the 140 country stations on the Mediabase panel. Amazing.

I’m relieved to see those five adds for Casey after a pretty lousy airplay week.

And, I’m ready for a new Scotty single – uptempo, please.

  • Anonymous

There are a couple uptempo songs on Scotty’s album that many people think could be top 10 hits & even potentially #1. Even though, “The Trouble With Girls” (TTWG) has done well, many people think it’s one of the weakest songs on his album. There are many people who think if his management released one of the uptempo songs on his album instead of TTWG he would have a top 10 hit. I agree that while TTWG did well that an uptempo single instead would have given him a top 10 song by now.

  • Anonymous

    No, what I said is:
“that people have said that Kelly and Adam are the only ones that people have said fit on pop, and that until Stronger, sometimes Kelly was left out of that group.”

And my reply would still be:

“Kelly is a pop artist. She has had a decade’s worth of hits that charted in the top 10 and top 20 on CHR. Stronger isn’t her first Pop hit!”

  • fuzzywuzzy

The only problem with that is that fans who make OTT statements often believe them regardless of what the reality is, so they have lost all perspective.  Then, they attack anyone who doesn’t believe their delusions, like they are the mother of their favorite Idol.  It’s stupid.  It can be forgiven coming from kids, but so many of the delusional fans are adults.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“No, what I said is that people have said that Kelly and Adam are the
only ones that people have said fit on pop, and that until Stronger,
sometimes Kelly was left out of that group.”

Huh?  What “people” said that Kelly wasn’t a fit on pop?  No one in the music industry would have said that in the last 10 years.

  • Anonymous

Thanks for reposting that! My reply would still be:” Kelly is a pop artist. She has had a decade’s worth of hits that charted in the top 10 and top 20 on CHR. Stronger isn’t her first Pop hit!”

And my reply is that I’ve never said otherwise.  I could go further, but MJ already said that this isn’t about what fans have said.  I was just pointing out some of the things that have been posted about two idol alums in particular and the pop charts.

  • Kirsten

Okay….let it GO! I don’t want the thread closed or people being banned. MJ has warned us enough, today. Yes?

Look, a nice shiny little article about Ticket Scalpers.

    http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/touring/confessions-of-a-ticket-scalper-billboard-1006351352.story

What do you mean by “out of control”?

The bots. I met a guy who told me he had 600 modems in his piece of crap strip mall store that generated so much heat the neighbor couldn’t get their temperature right.

Something we can all probably agree on: They suck!

  • Anonymous

LOL! Chris Rene’s single hasn’t been released for sale yet, so technically, it can’t blow up the charts. Though it’s doing damn well so far for a song that hasn’t even gone up for sale. So there’s nothing to worry about now. It has been released to radio and about 41 pop and 14 rhythmic stations are already spining itas at 3/3. It’s difficult to track it because it’s not entered the top 40 yet.  I can’t wait for it to go up for sale on the 13th to see how it does and whether the big market stations will jump on it when it shows promise of good sales!

  • Anonymous

“I’m relieved to see those five adds for Casey after a pretty lousy airplay week.”

Ditto, Eileen. I was crossing my fingers that CJ would get some good adds today and not falter. I remember feeling the same anxiety after the Xmas freeze and this song made it thru that – so I still think LDCIAN has some steam in it.

That said, I do think it’s interesting that LDCIAN has had 325K views on You Tube after months of exposure and his acoustic Drive already as 186K after three weeks.

  • Anonymous

Huh? What “people” said that Kelly wasn’t a fit on pop? No one in the music industry would have said that in the last 10 years.

Glad to see I don’t have problems with comprehension. LOL

I was also wondering when Kelly has been considered to be an artist who did not fit on Pop? Maybe when she is doing her country duets? IDK?

  • Anonymous

Huh? What “people” said that Kelly wasn’t a fit on pop? No one in the music industry would have said that in the last 10 years.

Nobody in the industry said it, or would say it.  I deleted my post because it was something that has been said on the boards, so it was not about Kelly or her accomplishments, which is what I said earlier.  The topic was what had been said in the bubble, which is why MJ had the warning about fans not being the topic, and why I subsequently deleted the post.

For something that is about an artist, Carrie has two Hot AC adds, one from the station in Boston.

  • fuzzywuzzy

OK, thanks.  I didn’t realize the origin of the topic and that you were referring to posters on the internet.  That makes sense now. Any kind of crap is posted on the internet, but even then, I’m sure that it was a minority opinion. lol

  • Anonymous

Aside from his talent and good looks, I am a fan of Casey J. because of his interesting journey on the chart which seems to be based on a lot of ordinary dues paying.  He is the last best hope to redeem season nine, and because of his very obvious assets, I think he can do it.  I am not a country music fan, but I like his vibe which seems to have some blue grass in it. I love blue grass.  I might be off base about that, but that is my perception.

  • Anonymous

“Really no different then what every rising artist has been doing  like Lauren, Hunter Hayes, Love and Theft on and on the list could go.”

Yes, true. But it is different than your average Idol peep. IMHO of course. And I’m not sure that Lauren is doing small radio shows across the nation, is she? I thought she was on tour with Aldean and soon Sugerland. I wouldn’t say that kind of exposure can be compared to what CJ is doing.

“He also has been an opener on a major tour hasn’t he (Sugarland March and April 2011)  I am sure he will be again this year.”

Yeah, last year he opened for Sugarland. This year? I’m pretty sure he won’t land a big tour. I’d be thrilled if he did, but earlier this year there was chatter about looking at different ”offers” and then, CJ said he’d opted for doing small shows all over the country. Whether that was saving face or a choice… who knows.

“I also do not buy he has no boost from being on AI he was very popular I am sure some fanbase still exists.”

Coming off of S9 – a season roundly ridiculed as horrible – horrible singers, horrible judging, horrible ratings, horrible sales – I would say, sure, CJ had some exposure as anyone would on a TV show, but I’d say he had far less of a AI fanbase than let’s say a Scotty or a Lauren or even a Haley. And it’s two years out. Of course, he’s got some hardcore fans who’ve stuck with him, but all the fairweather fans – who could have driven up his sales – are long gone. Again, IMHO.

  • Anonymous

Our resident country music expert :) had this to say earlier about the two HAC adds:

They’re autoadds from stations that have played songs of Carrie’s in the past (not just BHC, also Cowboy Casanova and Undo It) so I don’t think it means too much yet. I’ll be surprised if there’s any push for GG on other formats before it peaks at country radio. At the most there may be some testing going on for a possible later push.

I can see Carrie’s new song as one that RCA will try to push on other formats.

  • Anonymous

Lauren does one or two radio promo shows each week she is out on tour I do not follow Scot but believe he might as well.  Her schedule looks very similar to CJ’s for the upcoming year small radio shows midsize shows with a couple of mid-level acts then she has the Tour.  Not at all trying to put him down he/they are all working hard he/they are all paying their dues. He is two years out so maybe Lauren will not get to tour next year either but he did his first year as she is. I do agree his sales will not be that of Lauren’s as the fanbase is smaller at this point.  Wish him a lot of success he is very talented and I like his sound have preorderd his CD and looking forward to it.

  • Blower

IMHO of course. And I’m not sure that Lauren is doing small radio shows
    across the nation, is she?

She had several radio shows and interview with local radio when she toured with Jason or when she had free schedule.

  • Kirsten

It’s difficult to track it because it’s not entered the top 40 yet.

Sign up for a free account at AllAccess and you can monitor down to the top 50 and you can also see how it’s doing on the top/new stations playing it.

If we look at the starters and leader pages for the song on Pop, we can see that it was spun 279 times in the last week compared to 107 the week before (spincrease is 172). Most of those spins are over night (171), but there are a smattering of spins during the day (13 during the morning drive in and 21 on the drive home). It’s AI is 0.446. That’s across 29 stations. The biggest spinners are KLJT in Tyler,Texas (33) and KMXV in Kansas City (21).

For the same on Rhythmic, there are only 13 stations, but almost as many spins: 201 with a spincrease of 73. 99 spins were over night and the AI is 0.586. The Top spinners are KDON in Monterey (33) and WKHT in Knoxville (27). Modesto and Fresno are right behind at 24 and 23.

  • Anonymous

I was talking about the radio play charts, not sales charts. Obviously it can’t do anything on iTunes since it hasn’t been released for sale yet. But a song doesn’t have to be released for sale to move up the mediabase chart, as those are solely about radio play. Chris R’s single is definitely moving in the right direction and it is getting some decent adds, but it is not racing up or “blowing up” the charts. I was basically comparing its slow and steady climb to Adam’s single doing more or less the same sort of thing on the Hot AC chart — and wondering why all the angst about one song but none about another song that was having the same sort of climb? In my opinion,  in neither case, should there being any angst, because both Chris R & Adam are doing ok with their singles.

  • http://twitter.com/AdamsArmyGirl Linda Vastardis

I remember Adam himself specifically explaining ‘why’ he and the label led with BTIKM.  Adam called it a ’bridge’ between WWFM and BTIKM.  He also said that BTIKM was the ‘mission statement’ for the album and that he saw it as an emotional connection to his fans and audience laying the groundwork for what was to follow on Trespassing.

Also, as a sidebar, they might have gone with BTIKM to lead because it is a Claude Kelly song and after what happened with the lead single from the album of the same name, For Your Entertainment, also penned by Kelly, they felt they ‘owed’ him another chance at lead single.  Just a shot in the dark guess on this, tho.

I feel pretty confident saying that Adam had a lot of input into the lead single decision, even though I’m sure it was the label’s final word.  Adam is very ‘hands on’ in every aspect of this process.

  • mmb

I think Chris Rene has the best chance of succeeding at pop radio of all of the new batch of idol, voice and x factor alums. By a wide margin. LA is gonna throw a lot of weight behind him, he is different in that 1) he has a rap/rhythmic edge and 2) his single is an original song that got a lot of exposure on x factor during the season. First time we’ve had something like that from a reality show alum. I think it is and will contine to get increasingly difficult for recent reality singing alums to get pop AirPlay. There is just, IMO, exhaustion from it and now, instead of 1 or 2 new artists a year pop radio is being asked to absorb 5,6,7 new artists from these shows in the course of a year. Plus you already have the older, established alums and then those embarking on sophomore efforts. I’m not a fan of Young Homie. But I think Chris brings something new and different to the table that could help him stand out in a very very very cluttered field

  • Anonymous

I haven’t been paying super close attention to Casey J’s promo, but what I have seen seems to be focusing on promoting him simply as a new artist, pushing his connection to Idol to the background, rather than making that a main point of emphasis in his marketing. That’s a lot different from the type of promo most ex-Idols have gotten when they are right off the show — seems like the Idol connection is generally the main selling point, sometimes to the detriment of the performer. I know Crystal’s team tried to minimize her Idol connection as well, but it seems to have been more successfully pushed to the background for Casey J.

But as I say, I haven’t paid real close attention to how they are promoting him, so maybe I’m way off here.

  • ronnie

I didn’t realize Claude Kelly wrote FYE, I loved that song.  This one, I don’t like at all.

  • Anonymous

General question: Are big market rhythmic stations usually slow to add songs by new artists and/or new songs in general (aside from ones from the biggest names, of course)?

  • Anonymous

No, Jean. You are not off base about the blue grass tones in CJ’s music. They are definitely there in many of his songs. Especially when he plays live.

  • Anonymous

“Not at all trying to put him down”

No, I never took it that way, DB987. Just having a discussion. Since I don’t follow Lauren, I wasn’t aware of her smaller shows. Good for her. Doing all this at 16 must be really tough.

  • Anonymous

I think the number of singing show contestants is making it harder for all artists to get radio play and sales, but especially other contestants.  I believe it was Lionel Richie who while being interviewed about Whitney listed absorbing singing contestants as one of the reason success was getting to be more difficult for artists.

  • Kirsten

Also, as a sidebar, they might have gone with BTIKM to lead because
it is a Claude Kelly song and after what happened with the lead single
from the album of the same name, For Your Entertainment, also penned by
Kelly, they felt they ‘owed’ him another chance at lead single.

Bah! They didn’t “owe” Claude anything. It’s not RCA’s  fault that song didn’t click on US radio. It was pulled before the AMAs, so Adam had nothing to do with the single being switched. Claude knows the deal. Not everything succeeds. Claude has lots of hits, so nobody needs to feel sorry for him. And he got paid mechanical royalties for every single/album sold, so he still made a lot of money on the song.

  • Anonymous

“But as I say, I haven’t paid real close attention to how they are promoting him, so maybe I’m way off here.”

No, I don’t think you’re far off, girlygirltoo. CJ is always very gracious about the show in his interviews when it comes up but lately, I’ve noticed that it’s the single that is what’s brought up first – and his hair, of course. LOL. Not much about the AI show anymore.

He also isn’t discussing going on the show and last year, he visited AI but didn’t seek out any screen time – or wasn’t offered it ;-). My impression is that he’s happy he did the AI gig, but glad it’s behind him. He’s placing his trust in his CD and not his AI fan base. I’d say his mgmt and the label agree with that strategy.

  • Kirsten

I believe it was Lionel Richie who while being interviewed about Whitney
listed absorbing singing contestants as one of the reason success was
getting to be more difficult for artists.

Well, that hasn’t stopped him from hitching his horse to the gravy train. He’s happy to appear as a mentor on The Voice to promote his new Country Duets album out in a few weeks (Mar 26th).

Maybe he should be grumbling about all these old geezers recycling themselves as judges on these singing competitions making it more difficult for new artists.

    Bah!

  • Anonymous

Glad it didn’t sound like a put down its hard to tell how something you say is coming accross.  IMO bottomline he has a harder road at this point then Lauren or Scotty but they really all need to be doing to some extent those radio tours and smaller shows  where they will get better exsposure and win over the radio people because that is where long term success lies.  I am happy they all seem to realize this and are working at it.

  • Tess

Anyone know how Kelly’s recreated MKIA has done in the country genre.  Is she getting any spins and has the song been available for purchase?

I am also happy with Adam’s progress.  It hasn’t been a very easy road for him and I believe he is handling it very well and progressing at a speed maybe not as fast as others but still progressing.  I wonder how many other artists out there could face what Adam has had to face and still be around but I believe he will prevail regardless of it.  He has the personality, charisma, courage and definitely the most important, talent, to overcome it all.  Can’t wait for everything to unfold.

Thanks ! Just registered! Yeah, looks like Rhythmic is spinning the song more lol!

  • Mateja Praznik

Almost 22K spins for Stronger … American radio really has a problem with overplaying the hits.

  • heartly

Not sure how it’s doing on the charts, but it is still getting some new spins at different stations around the country with a station in Minneapolis being the latest.  As for it being available for purchase, it isn’t yet but it might be.  Minor game of telephone with this info, so take it with a grain of salt… someone on Pulse is buddies with a person that met Kelly at her Atlanta show and said she said they might be releasing it to iTunes.

On a different note, Kelly is having a press day in Toronto today and confirmed that Darkside is the third single.

Dia has a new single out? Was this announced or did the label just drop it with no promo?

  • windmills

Tess: Anyone know how Kelly’s recreated MKIA has done in the country genre.
Is she getting any spins and has the song been available for purchase?

There’ll be an update after Billboard Country Update comes out tonight and I’ll post about it in tomorrow’s numbers thread. But, MKIA lost some AIs last week (down 101k to 690k AIs) on the Billboard country chart and dropped a spot to #53. But, it did gain 3 spins. With at least 3 recurrents this week there’s a chance it’ll make t50 Billboard if it didn’t lose more airplay and didn’t get passed. The airplay loss is not something I consider significant in the sense that the song is still in test phase and not being promoted. Stations are picking it up on a combination of Kelly’s name and prodding by her manager Narvel.

The Chicago station WUSN that picked it up for test spins is one that recently switched PDs and its current PD was most recently a CHR PD. So, MKIA’s getting major market test spins which means it has a high AI to spins ratio. It isn’t in the t50 at Mediabase yet.

Not fantastic adds for Adam, but better than 5,4,3,2,1 or 0 adds so happy.  Fingers crossed for more tomorrow, but not too hopeful about CHR and this song.
Five seems good for Casey J. also.

You’re right. He’s been working with some top writers and producers. What helps him too is that, he’s always produced his own songs  and has a sound of his own but at the same time fits in. It would be difficult for any producer to alter his sound and that’s what will help him. You just can’t make him what he’s not. YOUNG HOMIE is a typical example of that. They carefully produced it in a way that it falls in between his audition version and his old studio version.

I  know lots of people here said the new version wasn’t poppy. When you hear it on radio, it’s nothing but pop.

You can hear it here when KISSFMSEATTLE played it before interviewing him a couple of days ago. And oh, anyone listening should try and listen to both parts of the interview. It’s golden with a brand new song at the end of the 2nd part.

so is that like 10 people per listen download it?  isn’t she selling 2-250K a week?  or is that soooo not a factor?

  • Anonymous

It’s coming and I can’t wait for the release of the album. There’s a lot of fans waiting for it around the world and I think it’s going to sell even better internationally than FYE did. It’s great he’s being given this opportunity again to promote it overseas and then tour. Hopefully its going to be more than him, Kelly and Daughtry touring around the world.

Whoa … your comment is a bit ‘aggressive’, don’t you think?  Am I not entitled to an opinion?  Also, I did say it was a ‘shot-in-the-dark’ guess.  I know you are very knowledgeagle and I respect that, but there’s no need to come on so strong to me …

It appears on the Billboard Update that MKIA dropped to #55 down from #53 with -.084 in audience, -12 spins.

Hope Casey does well – he’s a really great musician.

Kris just tweeted that TVOL is going to radio tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if it gets any adds right away:

KrisAllen:Tomorrow your local airwaves will have “The Vision Of Love”!

  • Anonymous

I hope the radio people knows about this. LOL.
I don’t think anybody here knew about the add date, unless I’m mistaken.
O geez, come on radio ! Come on Kris ! TVOL !

  • Anonymous

I’m sure they did. A couple of stations have already spun the single

  • Anonymous

So far I’m a little concerned with Kris’ rollout of TVOL. Everything seems a little impromptu to me.. No official release statement from his label either… :(

  • Anonymous

Don’t worry, sending the single to radio doesn’t make tomorrow the adds date.  It’s just one step in promoting the single to radio.  Hopefully we’ll get an announcement of the actual Top40 and HAC adds dates tomorrow, though, or at least very soon.

  • Melitha Randolph

The promotion for this song started last year.  The tweet from the LA Hot AC station let us know that RCA’s radio promotions department was letting certain stations hear the song.  At least two other stations blogged about it, including one in Orlando, and the song was sent out to some stations for test spins.

The hype that surrounds Adam is huge. This is a lot of pressure for the guy. I have long thought that the hype for Adam was a bit much and did not leave room for ordinary, demanding extraordinary.  His voice is great no matter what he sings, but if the song don’t rise fast enough, there is panic. The guy is one person.  People are not superheroes no matter how much we want them to be. Adam has a long wonderful career ahead of him no matter how BTIKM does. It bothers me to see people saying ‘flop’. If it made the radio, it is not a flop.

  • Anonymous

IMO, Adam has had a hand in fueling some of this larger than life hype swirling around him, so if the expectations from the public are outsized, he then must shoulder some of the responsibility for fueling the hype… he’s been gambling and playing for large stakes and payoffs, so natch any failures, real or perceived, will be magnified… he’s gambling big, on a much broader scale than most alums, so if he succeeds, the payoff will be huge, if he doesn’t, his failure will be as well… we shall see how it turns out real soon.

  • Anonymous

How has he had a hand in fueling this?   I’m not really sure that he has much control over it.   Do you mean the way he dresses?

  • Anonymous

An interview Adam did yesterday in Texas was posted online today and he talked about Kris’ new single and how much he liked it. Adam is always so generous to other artists. BTW it was KiddKraddock or something and the guy acted like he was high, weird interview.

I expect the press release to come out today

  • Kirsten

Bah! They didn’t “owe” Claude anything.

I think the target of my ire may have been misconstrued. It wasn’t the suggestion I was “Bah”ing, but the fact that it may very well be true. In the drug-fueled egotistical world of the music industry, Claude and others may very well have felt that he was owed something. That implied promises were made and not fulfilled. That Claude had been made “to look bad” and this must be remedied. Too often, new artists are sacrificed to placate the massive egos of some of the industry powerful.

I don’t think that Adam can be blamed for the FYE single being pulled in the US. If that is why BTIKM was chosen as a single, I think that’s just awful. The best single should have been chosen without consideration to Claude’s hurt feelings. He’s a big boy and has had enough successes, that he can suck it up. I hope it’s not the reason it was chosen. I think that they really did have a strategy.
