Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Feb 11-17

This week, the charge on Mediabase Milestones is led by the UK franchise of the X-Factor and Idol both with three each. Carly Rae Jepsen, Crystal Bowersox and Little Wings have songs going for adds this week.

Olly Murs takes point on the British X-Factor invasion of the Pop charts. His “Troublemaker” featuring Flo Rida looks to establish him on US radio (he has had previous songs chart, but this one looks like it will get him wider notice). The song has just gone top 20 on Pop. Cher Lloyd continues her success in America with “With Ur Love” featuring Juicy J entering top 40 on Top 40. One Direction’s “Kiss You” (despite going old school with how they spell “U”) is marching up the Pop chart, but the milestone they hit this week is on HAC where the song enters the chart in the top 50.

Speaking of HAC, Phil Phillips, the latest American Idol winner, enters the top 40 in that format with his second single “Gone, Gone, Gone”. The song only went for adds last week on AAA (where it sits in the top 30s). His previous single “Home” also returned to the 40 on Alternative Rock radio. Stefano from season 10 of Idol (now with only one name) debuts in the top 50 on Pop with his second single “Yes to Love”.

Season 3 American Idol winner, Fantasia, enters the top 15 on UAC with her latest single “Lose to Win”. The title seems apt because sometimes you have weeks like this. The song was stubbornly stuck outside the top 15 for the last couple of weeks and this week, with a spincrease of only one, the song retained its bullet and climbed up 4 spots. Other weeks, a song is gaining spins like mad and going nowhere. The position on the chart never tells the entire story.

Finally, a mention of the voice. Chris Mann’s “Roads” re-enters the top 40 on AC.
