Idol’s Queen of Country has done it again and achieved yet another top 10 hit song. I don’t know how many that makes for Carrie, but I’m pretty sure that almost every single she’s ever had has gone top 10 on Country. Can she slide “Temporary Home” into the #1 spot for a home run? I don’t know, but I do know never to count to underestimate Underwood. Also, on the Country charts, we have Danny getting his first ever Top 40 airplay hit.

Meanwhile, over on HAC, Adam moves his single into the Top 30 making the “Whattaya Want From Me” a top 30 hit on two formats. Daughtry’s latest single returns to the top 30 on AC and Jason Castro’s “Let’s Just Fall In Love” whistles it’s way back into the Top 50 on HAC.

Here are your Monday Morning Mediabase Updates for airplay as of 8:45 pm of 02/07/10 after the jump (trying to be consistent with the Mediabase peaks and Idol Chatter).

I am happy that Danny has his first Top 40 Country hit. :) I saw on the published chart that he was ranked #38 for last week and was up 75 spins for the week. Today on the 7 Day Rolling chart, he is up another spot at #37 and is up 125 spins for the week.

I hope that Danny’s airplay keeps increasing and that he keeps moving up the chart. I hope that today is a good add day for him as well.

WWFM entered top20 today but it probably won’t stay there long with Kesha and Bierber breathing down the neck.

  • Kirsten

WWFM entered top20 today but it probably won’t stay there long with Kesha and Bierber breathing down the neck.

What’s amazing about Ke$sha is how she’s still got an iron lock on the top spot with her first single. As we saw with Beirber the other week, as soon as his new song went for adds, his old song plummeted like a rock. We are seeing the same with Rihanna’s song (new song going for adds next week so the current one started to turn negative last week and we’ll see that negative bullet increase over the week).

Always something happening on the pop chart.

  • mmb

Anyone think that cumulus will finally add wwfm this week?

  • steph6449

Congratulations to Danny for breaking the top 40 barrier on the country charts. Good news for him :)

  • mr

Hey- what’s with all this “Bierber” talk?
    Isn’t his name “Bieber”? :-)

Congrats Adam&Kris for rising up the charts- esp. congrats Adam for making top 30 on HAC and almost top 20 in Pop!! You go boy!

  • Indigobunting

    Go Gokey!

Making that slow rise up the Country Charts! Broke the top 40.

Just announced this am he will have a concert March 6 in Milwaukee at Turner Hall Ballroom; price of admission is the CD; will sign afterward.

Still no official news on his tour! Can’t wait.

  • lazyc0w

Yay for Adam! Now all I am waiting for is for the album to go GOLD this week!! YAY!!

  • TwigLA

Grats to Carrie on another hit. Temporary Home is a great song and I really enjoy the video for it. Also grats to Danny for breaking in on country.

Nice to see Kris Allen still in the top 10, 20, and 40 across 3 formats and LLWD’s upward mobility on iTunes. His album is doing great on iTunes also.

I just hope Bieber slows down… I don’t see his appeal but then I am not a tween.

Kesha seems to be the new Queen of the pop charts…

ETA: Seems like LLWD could reach top15 next week, no?

Probably not. Should be able to get past Jay Sean this week and perhaps Owl City. Has already been passed by Young Money. Might be able to hold off Justin. “Watcha Say” has slowed it’s descent and Rihanna is too far away. If LLWD is lucky, it will be top 16.

But one never knows on Pop. The end of the week can look much different than how the beginning of the week seemed to be trending. I didn’t think that Kelly could stay in the Top 20 another week at the beginning of last week, but she did.

  • saga

It was a slow week on top10-top20. Not much movement. The droppers stopped dropping and the risers are too far away.

  • tls62

I don’t follow country, so I guess I’m a little ignorant in that field. So stupid question…..I notice that Danny is doing really well, even entering the top 40, which is great for him. But here’s the stupid question part….why doesn’t that show up in the overall iTunes position? Top 40 is a pretty big deal…why doesn’t it translate over into the overall chart? Is it harder for country people to break through the overall chart? Sorry for my ignorance, but I’ve wondered this for some time now. :)

  • Mtlfan

Hope to see LLWD in the top 10 in the following weeks *fingers crossed*

congrat to danny for his top 40 country!

cool that WWFM is working his way up

  • jpfan

LLWD going top 10 on Pop would be a struggle but I can def see the song going Top 15. And I think the potential to go to 5 on HAC is there. WWFM should have no problem going higher on Pop.

I’m pretty sure Crush peaked at #11 on the Top 40 chart. Let’s see if either song can improve on that number.

I know this isn’t the sales chart but I could see LLWD going platinum in 3-4 weeks easily. And FYE the album is going gold this week.

  • steph6449

Reputedly country fans as a group aren’t that much online, although the top few artists sell a boatload of songs so I’m not sure that’s entirely true. Maybe those are artists who break into broader mass market appeal though. And country songs seem to take forever to develop. I read someone complaining on a country blog last month that Taylor Swift’s latest song had “shot to the top” by hitting ~#20 on the airplay chart in only 6 weeks, lol.

Last I heard Danny’s single was somewhere in the top 100-150 on the iTunes country chart. Sampling one chart today, most of the artists who are ranked in the 30s to low 40s for country airplay aren’t in the top 100 country single sales either. A lot of the songs in the iTunes top 100 look to be older songs, plus current top 20/top 30 hits.

Danny did get fairly high when his single first came out, I forget exactly where but top 25 anyway on the iTunes country chart. His music video got into the top 10 for country when it became available at iTunes recently. Should also keep in mind, his album isn’t yet available except for pre-order so the single sales are running on their own. I think we’ll get a better idea how his sales do in the spring once the promo hits harder for his album.

  • sr4mjc

WWFM was Auto Added by HAC Detroit this morning. #11 market, woohoo!

The Tampa Top 40 station (93.3) played WWFM during the talk morning show and when the song ended, one of the crew said something like ‘I like the song’ and they talked about Tampa’s Jingle Ball and that Adam was very nice and down to earth. And then discussed how thick his makeup was and one guy made a comment like ‘she sounds good’ or something. But then again said ‘all joking aside, he was very nice”

Sigh.. But the good news is that the morning show is sindicated so many markets heard it. And WWFM is up to #8 on their playlist.

These guys are kind of douchebags and were ragging on Carrie as well. I did try to call and defend her singing live.

  • Jx223

I think that this is the case as well.

The #1 song on the Top 40 country chart (Jason Aldean’s “The Truth”) is ranked #66 on the overall Itunes chart. While Kesha who has the #1 song on Top 40 pop chart is ranked #3 on the overall Itunes chart. So I do think that pop artists tend to sell more singles than Country artists do. Even though there are some like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Lady Antebellum who sells tons of singles.

  • sunny2

Congrats Idols, nice to see you moving up the charts.

Good news for Kris. A Top 40 station in Vancouver has added LLWD today(#3 in the market). Hopefully Toronto will follow.

  • RightNow

Congrats to Danny indeed on making the Top 40 Country charts. He should be very proud of the fact that he consistently held steady on the charts, always increasing spins. And it wasn’t until 2 weeks ago, that he had his video out. Danny is definitely performing at the level where he should be at as a new artist. Really looking foward to his album release on Mar 2, his performing on Season 9 and his tour.

  • monte

Congrats to Danny on his first top 40 hit. I agree that country music fans as a whole don’t purchase as many digital singles. They are more apt to buy hard copy albums. I also noticed that most of the country artists higher on the Itunes chart have albums out. I think Danny’s single sales will increase when his album goes on sale and with national promotion and also as his single climbs higher up the chart. It just broke the top 40. I also expect his music video sales to increase the more it is played on GAC and CMT.

  • Jx223

Danny just got an add from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania WRBT-FM.

I think her label should come out with a second single; I don’t know why they haven’t.

It certainly worked for Adam when FYE didn’t do well. I keep expecting Allison’s label to do the same but they haven’t yet.

  • tinawina

Look at Danny! You go boy!

Season 8 is shaping up to be the season of the slow growers. They start out of the gate with a casual gait, then pick things up as they go. LOL. Watch, all of them will still be charting in a year. :)

Didn’t Jive do some FIBOU industry advertisements for Allison last week? Lets see what kind of adds she gets Tuesday. **gives Jive the side eye**

  • lucy

Kirsten, are there some numbers for Elliott? Looks like his (probably paltry, unfortunately!) AC number for Can’t Keep on Loving You From a Distance (which is too long a title …) got inadvertently dropped from the post? Thanks.

They’re trying to push the song again, but I’m just trying to enjoy what I think will probably be its brief sojourn in the top 40/50? of AC.

And, yes, here’s hoping for ADDS for ALLISON!!!

  • girlygirl

Congratulations to Danny for his 1st Top 40 hit. And yay for Kris and Adam moving up on the Pop chart (and Adam on the Hot AC chart).

So far today, LLWD has one AC add and an add from a Canadian station (hopefully latter means he’ll start getting more spins in Canada, as he got some Canadian adds LW, too), WWFM has gotten 1 Top 40, 1 Hot AC and 1 Canadian station add, and MBD has gotten 1 country add

  • girlygirl

LLWD is #17 and WWFM #26 on iTunes this morning, BTW

  • mmb

If jive drops a new single for allison I have no doubt they will do it in conjunction with an AI appearance.

Also, interesting that danny has already spoken about appearing on march 4, kris has referred to appearing on s9 in interviews but when asked about an ai s9 appearance adam said nothing set up. Wonder whether they will have him on and if not, why not

  • steph6449

Look at Danny! You go boy!

All kinds of fun things right now for Danny.
    - hopping a ride lately on the corporate jet for his radio tour
    - after hovering just outside for several weeks, just broke top 40 country airplay chart
    - music video just debuted in regular appearances at both GAC and CMT
    - video hit #8 on one of the CMT countdown shows its first week in
    - album release in 3 weeks with hometown release concert the next weekend
    - appearance scheduled on AI9 (rumored as March 4th)
    - invite for second appearance at the Opry next month
    - will be on the Sugarland tour this spring, maybe into summer once we hear all the dates

Not complaining here. Btw, Danny hasn’t said March 4th himself. He’s supposedly sworn to silence on any specifics until press releases or something. But a person who appears to be the new drummer for Danny’s expanding band said March 4th on twitter recently. They are adding people to Danny’s band apparently in anticipation of the Sugarland tour and taking his performances out of the acoustic mode that’s been used for his radio tour and all the other appearances since October.

  • Indigobunting

I don’t think Danny has mentioned being on S9 March 4- he has said he couldn’t say; but a fan rumored it to be then. Danny has just said that he will be back.

I’m sure Adam will be on S9- he is he first runner up, signed to 19 and they have promoted the heck out of him; I am 100% positive he will be back!

  • Jx223

I do believe that Danny will be back performing on AI on March 4. He hasn’t officially stated this as the date, but one of his band members said that they were playing AI on that date.

Plus that is on a Thursday, an elimination night and is the week that his CD is released. Also I saw him posted under the special guests for Season 9 on the official AI website.

I think that Adam will probably be back later in the season like maybe Top 6 or later. I could see him back on the show like late April/early May to perform his next single from his album.

  • steph6449

I can’t imagine that Adam won’t be back sometime on AI9. Would like to think also Allison and some of the other top 10 who are putting out their own music as well.

  • lorismile

I’m pretty sure Crush peaked at #11 on the Top 40 chart. Let’s see if either song can improve on that number.

Wow, the way everyone talks about what a monster hit that song was, I thought it would be higher than #11. I know it did really well sales wise, but I just thought it was at least a top 5 radio hit.

Go Adam!!!!! Yeah….. I love hearing him on the radio! Let’s hope he gets some ADDS this week!!!!

  • windmills

Idol’s Queen of Country has done it again and achieved yet another top 10 hit song. I don’t know how many that makes for Carrie, but I’m pretty sure that almost every single she’s ever had has gone top 10 on Country. Can she slide “Temporary Home” into the #1 spot for a home run? I don’t know, but I do know never to count to underestimate Underwood.

Carrie’s been very fortunate that every one of her 11 singles officially released to country radio has made the top 10 on Billboard and Mediabase. She’s also charted a Christmas single in or close to the top 30 I believe. And she’s had a few singles chart from unsolicited airplay (The More Boys I Meet, her cover of I’ll Stand By You, her ridiculous coronation song).

Whether Temporary Home makes it to #1 is yet to be seen – I think it’s the least radio friendly song she’s ever released but I’m rooting for it because of how beautifully she sings it and because there’s so much of her in it as a writer. She’s in a tight battle for chart position with Hillbilly Bone by Blake Shelton featuring Trace Adkins and Easton Corbin’s A Little More Country Than That. Both those guys have albums coming out March 2nd so I think we can count on those songs continuing to do great until at least then and probably a few weeks after too. March 2nd is also relevant because that’s when Danny’s album comes out.

I just checked and My Best Days is at #171 on the i-Tunes Top 200 Country Songs chart. I don’t know how that compares to where he has been in recent weeks. Matt Kennon is the only guy around where Danny is on the airplay charts who’s doing a lot better on i-Tunes Country (he’s at #61 on i-Tunes Top 200 Country Songs). Making the Mediabase top 40 will help Danny because in a few weeks he’ll get some weekend countdown spins.

Not sure why Allison’s single is not doing that well.

I’ve never liked the song so I’m tempted to blame the single choice but radio is full of songs I think are crap that have become hits so who knows. I think Jive should be plugging Allison as a teen who can actually SANG, especially now. But I also think she needs a story to make radio people take another look at her and give her a chance.

I think Adam and Kris are almost guaranteed to be back during the finals and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were back multiple times (including IGB). Allison is managed by 19M too, right? I think she’ll be back as well and her appearance will either mark the launch of a new single or it’ll happen if by some chance FIBOU takes off.

  • YankeeFan08

Go Adam!!!!! Yeah….. I love hearing him on the radio! Let’s hope he gets some ADDS this week!!!!

Four adds so far today for WWFM:

    2 Top 4
    1 HAC
    1 Canada

  • Junior

I’m sure Adam will be on S9- he is he first runner up, signed to 19 and they have promoted the heck out of him; I am 100% positive he will be back!

I’m positive they’ll have him back too, but being first runner up doesn’t necessarily guarantee that would happen. IIFC, Katharine was not invited back the year following her loss to Taylor Hicks. And I don’t think she’s been back at all, ever? (i’m sure they wouldn’t have had Taylor back on either, if it could have been avoided, heh)

  • YankeeFan08

Oops … can’t edit. It should be Top 40.

  • girlygirl

Former Idols have been invited back on the show even if they don’t have hit singles or albums, so I’m sure Allison will be on AI9 at some point if her schedule allows it.

Adam will definitely be back. Kris will likely be on at least twice. Supposedly he’s scheduled to appear in April, and of course he’ll be on the finale (again, I’m assuming everyone will schedule their other stuff around the AI apperance(s) ). And it makes sense for Danny to be on around the time of his album release. It would be nice to see Matt and Anoop back, too, since they are releasing stuff — but that may be a longshot.

  • hoosiermama

Good news for Kris. A Top 40 station in Vancouver has added LLWD today(#3 in the market).

That is good news! Now they can play the heck out of it during the Olympics!! :-)

Kirsten (or whoever knows)–who/what is causing the bottleneck on HAC, preventing LLWD from moving up this week? I know Daughtry is right above it at #7, but who/what are #1-6? Any chance some of them are moving down next week? Thanks!

Kat has been back at least once. She sang with david foster and looked gorgeous

  • Kanadie Bonttell

but when asked about an ai s9 appearance adam said nothing set up. Wonder whether they will have him on and if not, why not

Not only do I think he will be on, but I believe he will be on twice. He will get a regular season spot, probably top 4 show or higher, and I believe we will see him on the finals show. Don’t forget that Adam’s manager is Simon Fueller, and American Idol is his show. :)

  • mmb

Re all the idols coming back, there are only so many performance spots and its starting to get crowded. If we assume adam kris danny (and probably allison) come back to perform. There are lots o other idols who will likely be promoting new singles or albums -kat, fantasia, kelly, cook?, archie?, jordin? Kim caldwell, carly (watf),jason, matt, anoop, elliot?, carrie (she is always on), chris d, jennifer h. And I’m sure there are others. That’s a lot o idols with songs to promote? Who will get the performance slots? Who will get left out?

  • Junior

Kat has been back at least once. She sang with david foster and looked gorgeous

I wasn’t sure about subsequent seasons, thank you for the info. I haven’t watched consistently since season 5.

But I do remember she talked about how she would have been happy to return on Season 6 but that she’d never been asked back.

  • girlygirl

I wouldn’t count on Adam being on the finale — that seems to be reserved for the winner only — plus all the non-Idol guest performers. Have any of the runners-up performed on the next year’s finale show?

  • mmb

Adam won’t be on the finale unless he sings the boot song, which I highly doubt, or it is his only appearance and he sings a song with one of the top 12

  • steph6449

They’re expanding the AI programming this year though, aren’t they? There are a lot of past AI finalists who’d benefit from being featured on the show and who fans may want to catch up with. I’d rather see them bring back more of the previous finalists for performances than fill up the extra time with goofy filler :(

Or let those who do come back on get a little more time. Perhaps they could do a slightly longer performance, more than one song? Probably unrealistic, but there’s a million worse things they could do (and have done) on AI to soak up the extra broadcast time…

Not sure about Adam and the finale. Another time that could allow for “extra” appearances might be the Idol Gives Back show.

  • J9BT

Here is a link to the HAC chart. Rob Thomas, Kelly and Owl City are above LLWD and moving down, but John Mayer is moving up pretty quickly, as well as Lady Gaga and some others.

Very happy with those numbers! Woot! Especially to see that WWFM actually had a pretty large HAC jump – was not expecting that!

Re Allison, I agree – new single pronto, but, as one bright side, I did see her MV more times than either Kris or Adam yesterday on MTV! I was watching all day (though probably leaving it a few times, so may have missed it), and saw FIBOU, but no WWFM, LLWD or FYE – so at least it’s getting out there!

Also, interesting that danny has already spoken about appearing on march 4, kris has referred to appearing on s9 in interviews but when asked about an ai s9 appearance adam said nothing set up. Wonder whether they will have him on and if not, why not

Yeah, I would expect Adam to be on at some point. Very likely that the details/dates just haven’t been worked out. If they are still working out his other appearances, commitments, even a possible tour, then a likely AI appearance would have to work around that, I’d imagine. Last year, many previous AI’ers came back (which was great – they tended to be MUCH better than non-AI folks like Miley, Jamie Foxx, or Kanye).

  • Q3

Nice news about Danny entering Top 40 on Country airplay chart.

And WWFM had a nice update today on both Pop #20 and HAC #26.

Finally, I have the answer to a question that is of interest only to true numbers nuts [about 3 weeks ago]. I just got confirmation from AT40 that their chart is based on an unpublished MediaBase chart and is NOT the MediaBase airplay chart based on monitored Pop [Top 40] stations including recurrents for any date. Also, if you look at the AT40 for past 4 weeks, the song ranking is very similar BUT different than the Mediabase Pop airplay chart from 2 weeks prior [or any date] with or without recurrents. [The AT40 does, of course, include recurrents.]

  • Kirsten

Kirsten, are there some numbers for Elliott? Looks like his (probably paltry, unfortunately!) AC number for Can’t Keep on Loving You From a Distance (which is too long a title …) got inadvertently dropped from the post?

Sorry, he appears to have fallen off of the AC chart. I should have deleted his entry. The song has bounced around a bit so it might be back.

Wow, the way everyone talks about what a monster hit that song was, I thought it would be higher than #11. I know it did really well sales wise, but I just thought it was at least a top 5 radio hit.

“Crush” is a classic example of a song that didn’t get all of it’s ducks in a row. It was one of the top spinners on a lot of radio stations, but not all at the same time. By the time the late adders were spinning the crap out of it, the early adders had moved on. It happens. The fact that it sold double platinum indicates that it was quite clearly a big hit. Monster hits are probably in the 3-4 million range though.

Yeah, this is a good example of how many factors play into what is called a “hit” – even if it’s high on the chart, the bottom line is how well it sells. I’m sure all the label really cared about in the end is the fact that it sold so many units. That makes it a big hit.

Here is a link to the HAC chart. Rob Thomas, Kelly and Owl City are above LLWD and moving down, but John Mayer is moving up pretty quickly, as well as Lady Gaga and some others.

Thanks, J9BT! That is an interesting chart and I see now what you mean about John Mayer and Lady Gaga moving up quickly behind LLWD and LAY. Those two need more spins pronto to hold the others off. Interesting stuff (and I hate numbers!!).

Just looking at today’s update — WWFM is going to have trouble staying at #20 — looks like it could drop and then move up again.

And there is a huge gap in spins between #19 and #18 — so that leave Adam, Bieber, The Script and Ke$ha fighting for #19 and #20 for the next week or so. Hopefully WWFM gets some good adds this week and breaks out of this logjam.

But there are 10 songs in the Top 20 that are at or past peak so looks good for WWFM which is still getting good updates.

Have any of the runners-up performed on the next year’s finale show?

I don’t think so. The Finale usually features the previous winner, Carrie (after S4) and sometimes some other winners.

Has Daughtry ever sung on the finale (he did sing on Final 2 night when he had the boot song)?

Clay famously did sing in the S5 finale when he surprised that kid that wanted to be the next Clay Aiken.

Who will get the performance slots? Who will get left out?

I think 19M clients have the greatest chance followed by successful Idols such as Kelly and Jennifer (Daughtry and Carrie are with 19M so they are in the first group). The others will get the leftover spots. 19 is a business.

IIFC, Katharine was not invited back the year following her loss to Taylor Hicks.

Yep. That was a weird year. Katharine was not invited back at all during S6 and Taylor wasn’t invited until the finale (and probably only got the invite because they wanted to have has many previous winners as possible on (all but Fantasia came) that year. Well, plus he was handing over his crown and sash to the next winner)). Neither Katharine nor Taylor signed with 19M. There is much debate as to whether that was their choice (and it made Fuller angry) or if Fuller didn’t want them.

How common is it for an entire broadcasting group like cumulus to not add a song that reaches the top 20 on the pop or hac charts? It seems clear that wwfm is going to have difficulty growing if not a single cumulus station plays the song

  • windmills

Neither Katharine nor Taylor signed with 19M. There is much debate as to whether that was their choice (and it made Fuller angry) or if Fuller didn’t want them.

I didn’t realize there was a debate. Just like 19R has the right of 1st refusal in recording, 19M has the right of 1st refusal in management with anybody who’s a finalist. For a few years after Clay took legal measures to get out of his management contract with 19 (that was 2004), 19M was only signing 1 contestant per season:

S3: Fantasia (Diana’s mother co-managed her with somebody)
S4: Carrie (Bo signed with Strategic Artist Management)
S5: Chris (Taylor signed with The Firm, Katharine signed with Irving Azoff, Elliott signed with Three Ring Entertainment)

I thought the reasoning was they were trying to avoid a conflict of interest accusation where they could be accused of undercutting the runner up to help the winner so that AI the show didn’t look meaningless. That’s why Clay got out of his contract with 19M.

But by the time S6 rolled around I don’t think they cared anymore because I think Jordin and Blake were both signed to 19M.

I don’t think 19M was mad at Katharine or Taylor for signing with anybody else. 19M passed on them.

Carrie’s tour has a gap the week of the AI finale so I expect she’ll be there. She’s also got a gap from April 15-22 when the ACM Awards and the Brooks & Dunn tribute are happening in Vegas (April 18-19). If IGB is in that timeframe then I expect she’ll be there. But other than that I don’t think she’s available for any other results show.

  • mmb

Fyi it appears that fye will hit the actual 500k in sales this week. Hdd has 68 percent reporting and has adam at over 8800 so far (his chart placement drops, but that is unsurprising as some grammy nominees reenter the top 50). And hdd underestimated fye last week both on sales and chart placement so we will see. But over 500k in total sales seems a certainty

  • lorismile

How common is it for an entire broadcasting group like cumulus to not add a song that reaches the top 20 on the pop or hac charts?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t add it this week. It doesn’t look like any of those stations are even spinning it period, so I don’t expect the block to add them.

  • Kirsten

How common is it for an entire broadcasting group like cumulus to not add a song that reaches the top 20 on the pop or hac charts?

I can’t find the post now, but they did some analysis of that on Pulse a while ago and it’s common enough. You kind of have to treat Cumulus as one mega station, because they all add together. Only one decision is being made.

Consider that LLWD has been in the Top 20 on pop for a couple of weeks and that song has only been added on 66% of the combined reporter stations. There are lots of PDs that go their own way. LLWD has been in the Top 10 on HAC for a while and there are still stations which have not yet added it. Only 81% on the combined reporter panel. Yes, I know, many people think LLWD sucks and it’s gotten more adds than it deserves (I disagree), but we are just looking at how a song can be successful on the charts and still there will be PDs that won’t add it.

  • Truthiness

It seems clear that wwfm is going to have difficulty growing if not a single cumulus station plays the song

Well boo to Cumulus stations then. What is the hold up? Well it is but a small dark cloud (ha!) on an otherwise good day for the Idols. Congrats to Carrie, she is such a powerhouse! And to Kris and Adam for another good week. Kris’s iTunes placement bounced back after all the Grammy and charity singles, so I expect that last week and this week will be good for sales for it as well. I expect less sales for single sales for Adam, but that makes sense, he’s lower on radio play charts as well. He had a slower bounceback from the Grammy’s as well, but is about the same place as he was last week now.

Allison? oh Allison. Another dark cloud. She keeps in there with the interviews, and is doing these balls and stuff as well with Kris, so they’re keeping her out there. But maybe it’s just time to try another single. I know that Jive can do the slow and steady, and that really paid off with LLWD, but I think they’ve put in a lot of time with FIBOU and I just don’t see it going anywhere. Changing singles worked for Adam, maybe it would for Allison. I know single releases are supposed to be spendy and Jive is frugal, but there can’t be a great return on FIBOU right now, so why not try something new?

  • saga

It would be really nice with Cumulus adds, but I think WWFM can chart without them. There is plenty of room to increase spins on the stations that have already added WWFM.

  • girlygirl

Anybody have a clue whether LLWD will crack the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 this week? It was at #23 last week. I was looking at the chart and it looks like most songs around LLWD were moving up, not down, the chart — so my first instinct would be no. But I’m not entirely clear on how Billboard comes up with its charts, anyway, so I’m trying to keep some hope.

  • Kirsten

There is plenty of room to increase spins on the stations that have already added WWFM.

Yep. WWFM averaged 35.4 spins per week on the stations it was on during the last 7 days. Compare that to Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” which received 85.4 spins on average (and that’s down from last week when the song got an average of 87.4 spins).

Every song in the top 16 is goetting more than 30 spins per week per station and every song in the top 11 is getting more than 40 spins per week per station. Moving up the charts doesn’t just rely on adding new stations, it relies on getting more spins on the stations you are on.

  • lorismile

Consider that LLWD has been in the Top 20 on pop for a couple of weeks and that song has only been added on 66% of the combined reporter stations.

I agree that there are alot of stations that haven’t added LLWD but it isn’t being ignored by just one block of stations. I’ve been keeping track the last few weeks of all the adds for the top 40 (POP) songs. I haven’t done it for this week yet, but WWFM is probably near the bottom regarding the amount of adds for all the top 30 songs in radio play (if the last couple weeks are any indication). Unfortunately, Kris is probably in that bottom group too.

Honestly, it seems like radio is very hesistant to play / add the AI group from last year.

  • girlygirl

Even if John Mayer and Lady Gaga catch them, Kris and Daughtry should still be alright, because the 3 songs currently ahead of them on the Hot AC chart are all losing spins, so they could pass any or all of those songs by the end of this next chart period.

I was looking at the chart and it looks like most songs around LLWD were moving up, not down, the chart — so my first instinct would be no.

Probably not. The Grammy’s raised the sales of a lot of older hits that are still getting airplay so it will likely crowd LLWD lower than it was last week.

Perhaps this coming week. It’s slowly edging up to a Top 20 AI hit.

LLWD is #8 in HAC which is really good. But being added everywhere also means there is less space to climb up the radio chart. Radio stations need to spin it more in order for LLWD moving up.
