girlygirl thanks for posting the 'general' albums rankings from itunes. I put more weight in these & they tend to be more interesting... however I don't usually 'pull' numbers, but did take a look for the pop albums since the numbers looked a little off.

Am happy Adam's album is doing so well. And Kris LLWD is also going well still. I just wish Kris's album was doing better. It's really a good album.

Just checked iTunes and Kris's album is #24 on pop while Adam's is #20.

S6 was considered the worst season of Idol and Jordin was supposedly going to be a huge flop. She surprised everyone when she held on after meh sales and went platinum based on huge Pop hits. That's the Jordin model (so to speak).

I think both Kris and Adam have the potential to sell like Jordin as Top 40 is accepting their music. But the more sales before Xmas the better, so this week is very important as well.

Just my impression that the VMA thing seemed to propel her to a whole new, crazy level of success (as in, lots of non-country people knew her and were rooting for her, plus all the awards she won after).

Oh, Taylor was very well known before the VMA's and has been for about a year or so (even internationally). I have seen her on several awards shows. I especially remember her doing some performance where she was dressed in a hooded jacket and just played with her guitar. I'd say that was more her breakout performance than the VMA.

Lots of non-country people knew Taylor even before the VMA's. The VMA's gave her a surge of publicity but even when she didnt have the VMA hype she was getting Top 40 airplay and had cross-over hits, she was on lots of magazine covers, she was quietly selling a shitload of CD's and racking up accolades. She's been a sales monster all year but like most everyone else she's benefiting from Xmas shopping, and with award season here naturally you're hearing about her more because she's getting nominated for everything.

I have a spreadsheet with SoundScan totals for all Idols every season, including Billboard 200 positions and I'm looking at it now. I initially thought Jordin dropped out of the Top 50 the same time Kris did but nope, she managed to stay in the Top 50 for 11 weeks.

Taylor Swift's first album sold 5 million so she had a pretty big career before the VMAs. And the VMAs were recognizing her for having a huge year with her second album even before the Kanye mess. Since 2006 she has sold 10 million albums and didn't really need Kanye to help her sell more.

Well, as someone who never followed Taylor (or country) before the VMAs, I can tell you I was hearing about her ALL the time ever since that moment, whereas before then, hardly anything (though I knew who she was, knew she was doing well, etc.)

Just my impression that the VMA thing seemed to propel her to a whole new, crazy level of success (as in, lots of non-country people knew her and were rooting for her, plus all the awards she won after).

How long did it take Jordin Sparks to go Gold and Platinum, cause so far sales wise Season 8 seems similiar to Season 6. How did Blake do his first five weeks?

From the looks of the totals above, this doesn't seem to be the case. Adam is outselling the winner and runner-up from season 6 and Kris is behind both of them.

At least we can quit comparing Adam to Blake. (I never did understand where that crazy prediction came from.) Looks like we should have been comparing Kris to Blake instead.

I am still hoping for SNL and Oprah for Adam in the new year!

And Glee! The creator and star already said they wanted him - here's hoping they can make it work! That would be great, especially with it airing in the spring!
