Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Dec 10-16

Eight days before Christmas, Mediabase gave to us, 3 Christmas milestones, 2 Idol winners and One Direction on the Pop charts.

Phil Phillips, the Season 11 American Idol winner, notches another number 1 this week. This time his coronation song hit the top of the HAC chart. The song is still dominating the Triple A chart, is top 10 on Pop and top 40 on Alternative Rock. It’s losing spins and chart positions on AC because of the Christmas song deluge, but it is the number 2 non-Christmas song on the chart putting it in a good position come January. It will be interesting to see when the label pulls the trigger on the second single. “Home” looks close to peaking on spins on HAC and AAA which are closest to his home format, but still gaining nicely on Pop and Alternative Rock (AC will do whatever it wants for as long as it wants, so it isn’t a factor).

Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood, winner of American Idol Season 4 is cruising up the Country chart with “Two Black Cadillacs”. The third single from her fourth album is now in the top 20 for that format.

One Direction, from UK X-Factor went top 20 on Pop with their second single (“Little Things”) from their second album of 2012.

The rest of the milestone news this week is all from Christmas songs. Jason Castro’s “Hark The Herald Angels Sing” skipped over top 30 and went straight for top 20 (almost top 10) on CAC. Also making milestones on CAC is Mandisa. Her” “Somebody’s Angel” entered the top 50 while her “It’s Christmas” is firmly parked in the number 2 slot having entered the top 5 this week.

Casey James “Crying on a Suitcase” has been flirting with the top 20 on Country for weeks and this week is one of the weeks where it is in the top 20.

Holy cow CJ is still getting his track played that many times. The single was released back in June. Country radio is saying “Merry Christmas Mr. James”.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/OSOOTOBRL4XGHQNICOXCCN5IXQ lisa

I’m so hoping Casey J.continues to climb charts!!!his album is so good.

  • jpfan2

I’m starting to hear Home everywhere …at the gym, on the radio, on ads for Idol so I think it could pull in some decent sales after Xmas (when downloads go through the roof because of iTunes gift cards).

I don’t think Home can match the sales for Stronger (close to/at 4 million) but might get closer to Before He Cheats which I think sold 3.6 mil or so before it flames out.

  • TheOther

Congrats Phillip for scoring #1 on HAC.  And it’s week 7 for #1 on AAA.

At 55.4% reporting, HDD is predicting The World From The Side Of The Moon to sell approx 26,800.  It is currently predicted to be #8.  When the final numbers are in, it doesn’t look like it will stray too far from the Top 10.

I hope Phillip this year oversale Kris and receives Gold in January – I am careful.

Kris sold 348000 copies of his album, so I´m very optimistical, that Phillip reach his sales-mark this week.

And good news just keep on coming.))
This Sunday Home had officially went #1 on HAC, Mediabase. And though Billboard is going to publish all of their charts per usual on Thursday, they have already confirmed in ‘Chart Highlights’ that Home had toped the Adult Pop Songs (Billboard methodology) as well. Making a little bit of history for Idol franchise in the process.

Headline: Phillip Phillips Makes History On Adult Pop Songs
Phillip Phillips becomes the first “American Idol” champion to send a debut single to No. 1 on Adult Pop Songs, as “Home” hikes 2-1. The Fox series’ reigning victor bests the peak of 2009 winner Kris Allen’s introductory single “Like Like We’re Dying,” which reached No. 3 in 2010. “Home” also debuts on Alternative at No. 39 (see below).

Home is #35 on Alternative (Mediabase).

    Congrats, Phillip!
Talk about the gift that keeps on giving. ;)

Everytime Home looks like its peaked on CHR it gets another great update. At this point I have no idea when it will peak on Top 40 radio. The Idol promo will help sell the song well into January so maybe radio will keep playing it. If all goes according to plan by next Wednesday the song will be 3xplat or very close to it.

I can’t see the album selling gold in 2012 but probably will be close enough for the label to certify it based on shipments.

Every time someone here says that he/she doesn’t think Phillip will reach a certain milestone, he ends up reaching that milestone (e.g., Home won’t go platinum, Home won’t go double platinum, Home won’t go triple platinum, Home won’t chart on Triple A, his album won’t sell over a 100K in its first week, etc.)  You may have just “prognosticated” Phillip into having a quadruple platinum single and the best-selling single of all AI alums.  LOL.

According to HDD, in its fourth week, Phillip @Phillips’ TWFTSOTM sold 66k copies moving up to #7 on the BB200 chart.
