Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Dec 10-16

Eight days before Christmas, Mediabase gave to us, 3 Christmas milestones, 2 Idol winners and One Direction on the Pop charts.

Phil Phillips, the Season 11 American Idol winner, notches another number 1 this week. This time his coronation song hit the top of the HAC chart. The song is still dominating the Triple A chart, is top 10 on Pop and top 40 on Alternative Rock. It’s losing spins and chart positions on AC because of the Christmas song deluge, but it is the number 2 non-Christmas song on the chart putting it in a good position come January. It will be interesting to see when the label pulls the trigger on the second single. “Home” looks close to peaking on spins on HAC and AAA which are closest to his home format, but still gaining nicely on Pop and Alternative Rock (AC will do whatever it wants for as long as it wants, so it isn’t a factor).

Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood, winner of American Idol Season 4 is cruising up the Country chart with “Two Black Cadillacs”. The third single from her fourth album is now in the top 20 for that format.

One Direction, from UK X-Factor went top 20 on Pop with their second single (“Little Things”) from their second album of 2012.

The rest of the milestone news this week is all from Christmas songs. Jason Castro’s “Hark The Herald Angels Sing” skipped over top 30 and went straight for top 20 (almost top 10) on CAC. Also making milestones on CAC is Mandisa. Her” “Somebody’s Angel” entered the top 50 while her “It’s Christmas” is firmly parked in the number 2 slot having entered the top 5 this week.

Casey James “Crying on a Suitcase” has been flirting with the top 20 on Country for weeks and this week is one of the weeks where it is in the top 20.
