No milestones this week from Idols, but the X-Factor contestants have it going on (or as the Dawg would say, “They are in it to win it!” When I start quoting the Dawg, I know I need more sleep). Not content with having a top 10 hit on Pop, One Direction from UK XF added “One Thing” to the top 50 chart. Meanwhile, their debut single, “What Makes you Beautiful”, went top 15 on HAC. Representing the US franchise of the show, Marcus Canty’s debut single “Won’t Make a Fool Out of You” went top 40 on Urban. The third and fourth place finisher of that show already have top 40 hits…when will we get music from those who came in first and second?

In other news, this week is a big week for adds with no fewer than 5 songs from singing competitions being promoted to radio. Cheryl Lloyd from UK X-Factor, Marcus Canty from US X-Factor and 3 of the original reciepe top 4 who were finally acknowledged by The Voice this week (Javier, Vicci and Beverley) have songs going for adds on various formats. Adam Lambert’s debut single,”Better Than I know Myself”, from his second album fell off our charts this week as his second single continues to gain spins.

HAC addboard wasn’t too kind to either Kris or Adam today… Not looking good atall for TVOL if more stations don’t come aboard and spin, but I’ll give it another week or so before calling it… NCOE has a little more time, but I’d have thought HAC would be responding better at this stage to it than they did BTIKM… Waiting to see how much butt Carrie kicked last week saleswise. Downloaded her CD on release day, and I’m liking it.

TVOL is a great song.  Anybody have any theories why it isn’t doing better?

Maybe because Carrie released her new album. All the promos are for her. Every TV show, every radio and even print ads (for Olay).

Lexie: I also agree that it’s a great sign that he traveled to see Scotty–they
said Dungan has only been at the job for a week.  The CEO also said he
has ideas for Scotty and they’ve been collecting/looking at songs.
Scotty said that he’s been sending his A&R guy songs and been
    receiving as well.

Good. It’ll be interesting seeing Mike Dungan does with Scotty. He’s got a platinum plus seller on his hands and as the incoming label head I’m sure there’s some pressure to convert that into a sustainable success. I have mixed feelings about Mike Dungan in that he’s the guy who famously made Darius Rucker ditch all the very traditional songs he’d written for his debut country album for contemporary country songs. It worked for Darius’s 1st country album but his 2nd country album was way bland and even more in that direction. But, he’s also the guy that let Eric Church be who he is and look at how Eric’s doing now (Mike Dungan is not responsible for what comes out of Eric’s mouth).

Another reason I feel very sure they’re going to move on from Scotty’s debut album after WTT is that I’m sure all the new personnel brought in with Mike Dungan have their own ideas about what Scotty should do to advance his career and secure his spot at country radio. They’ll want to implement that on a fresh new album and it’s more likely the new personnel will get behind a product they’ve had a hand in developing.

Apropos of the discussion yesterday in the Weekend Countdown thread that could be a reason they move on from Lauren’s debut album after a 3rd single too, but I still feel like there isn’t yet a definitive conclusion about whether that album has more career-building singles if the next one makes t20.

It is vanilla compared to what’s played on HAC currently.
