I may be mistaken, but I think that’s on HAC?

Now… back to hoping for holiday leaks.

So – Appearantly no HDD updates today, and no Ken Barnes this week either. I’m guessing if anything comes out, it’ll only be the Top 10 from Yahoo and Billboard, or is even that out of the question?

Oh well, this might be a good time to complete my long neglected final papers. \:

  • Kirsten

I may be mistaken, but I think thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s on HAC?

Right you are. Thanks for the correction!

Billboard might publish. SoundScan will have it’s numbers out and they may leak. The problem is that a lot of the leakers will likely be on vacation as well. They may leak later in the week than usual. The numbers are what they are. Knowing them sooner won’t change them. Two years ago, a bunch of us re-constructed the Christmas Top 200 based on the week after Christmas numbers (when not working on the King William’s Quiz). It’s a tough time for the numbers watchers. You’ll never know what you might get. It will eventually be figured out. Maybe we’ll get an early Christmas present. Okay, enough rambling. The answer is a firm maybe.

  • SashaB

Honestly, Magic Rainbow’s stranglehold on the HAC is just remarkable. After all these months, to continue to be in the Top 10 is just nutty. It just will not die. Hee.

    Great news about LO, too.

Thanks Kirsten. I hope BB will publish numbers, but since I’m on vacation through New Years, I can hardly grouse if others decide to rest as well.

LOL. Crush has a bullet in AC. I love that song.

You just answered my headlines thread question. LMAO! Congrats Archie!

  • SashaB

OMG. DC sold six figures again? 132K in 5 weeks? Insane.

Congrats on Archie – that’s awesome. Great 18th birthday present, too.

So by my calculations, DCTR has sold over 714k units in 5 weeks. AWESOME.

Geesh, it’s becoming redundant and rather obvious, but I must say it again, 19 and Idol should be sending the Davids a really nice Christmas gift. They lucked out with two amazing talents who seem to have be developing a growing fanbase outside of AI. Let’s hope it continues strongly for them both in 2009.

  • IGetCranked

I can’t believe both David’s got gold for their birthdays! Wow! I’m so happy!

  • Michelle

(Edited cause apparently they updated in one fell swoop to final) Woohoo for both the guys!!! Yay for Archie selling gold!

  • SashaB

Michelle, I believe those were the final numbers. HDD didn’t publish anything before hand. Published as final.

  • abbysee

    Truth!

  • Jolene

    Yay, numbers!!!!!!!! Wheeeeeee!

132k? Way to top the HDD predictions yet again, David Cook! If this holds, he’s at ~714,500, and that’s a pretty pretty number for 5 weeks out. *proud tears for Cookie*
Hopefully this holds and next week doesn’t see too much of a drop.

Congrats to Archie on reaching gold for his birthday, too!

  • mac

Wow, Cookie gold after 4 weeks and Archie gold after 6 weeks. Truly amazing. Congratulations to both Davids!!!!! No lumps of coal for these two guys in their stockings for Christmas…..gold nuggets all around.

    Happy Golden 18th Bday Archie!!!!

  • serenade

Gold in six weeks. That’s fantastic. It took Crush seven weeks to go gold and that was awesome but I didn’t know quite what to expect for the album. So proud of David. Here’s hoping for Platinum in 2009 for David Archuleta the album too.

Congrats on Cook’s awesome success as well.

HDD really surprised everyone by posting these up so soon!

  • Tatiana

    This is awesome!! Go Archie!!!

Now, with these two guys doing as well as they are, can the peeps who work at Idol please stop blaming the TALENT for the drop in ratings, especially for Season 7? I’m so sick of hearing Simon say they were boring, “too many blonds” (??!), etc. The issue is with the show, clearly, and not the performers, as the public is embracing this year’s winner and runner up! Put a sock in it, Cowell, and let Season 8 contestants sing something from this century, please! *end rant*

tatiana- I can’t for the life of me figure out why some people act like Idol is dropping like a bomb, when it was still one of the hottest shows on tv this year. It is natural for a show after 7 years to drop a little in ratings. People have very little attention span and lose interest, but for goodness sakes, the show was still very highly rated!!

And I agree that they should let the contestants sing some newer songs. I know that DA tried to get many songs approved and couldn’t for who knows what reason. Can you imagine if he had been allowed to do 1000 miles for the show or some other newers songs?!!!

  • SashaB

IIRC, American Idol was still the number 1 ranked TV program nationally. Their numbers (total viewing audience) might be down, but the rankings are still solid gold.

  • IGetCranked

Amen Tatiana! Simon needs to put a cork in it! The producers are the culprit.. Neil Diamond week.. *snort*

  • FolkFan

Eh, who cares what Simon Cowell has to say, anyway?

HDD gifted us with a chart after telling us last week that there wasn’t going to be one this week. And the chart is so very, very nice. Makes me downright cheerful. (Probably abetted by the wine.)

  • Tatiana

LK – it’s ridiculous. When you consider the show had been on its 7th season (even popular shows follow a peak and then slow descent pattern) as well as the overall decline in Broadcast TV ratings due to increased Cable use, DVR’s, online streaming, etc, its crazy to blame the contestants of all things when the whole industry is in flux right now

And I agree that they should let the contestants sing some newer songs. I know that DA tried to get many songs approved and couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t for who knows what reason. Can you imagine if he had been allowed to do 1000 miles for the show or some other newers songs?!!!

I’m SURE he wanted to do this song, maybe even on finale night. I think Idol should stop the “manipulations” and let things play out fairly and naturally – but then they might not get the story arc that they want out of the season. And who knows, they have produced the top rated show for all these years – maybe there is some method to their madness.

IGetCranked – I agree with you, the themes were ridiculous this year! They didn’t even get to sing semi-modern songs until what was it, Inspiration Week or Mariah week? And I think one week they should have to all write and perform their own lyrics/melody to the same backing track (they did this challenge on Rock Star and it was really cool!)
