WooHoo, Magic Rainbow!! As recently as yesterday I thought it was starting its inevitable drop in all three formats, and here I wake up to find out it’s #1 on AC. This is due to a combo of TOML gaining a bit and Sara B. and Leona dropping a lot. This week will be interesting, chart wise. He may not stay up there, but at least now he can claim a #1 airplay position. The Little Rainbow That Could, Did. :)

WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FINALLY MAGIC RAINBOW @ #1
is it the first time that the coronation song reaches number 1 on AC?

  • IGetCranked

    Congrats Big Dave C!

Has Jennifer been marketed to top 40? I kinda figured they would since she had so much buzz going lately.

Go Archie! 26 in pop w/o going to adds yet!

  • Trina

Unbelievable! I never thought it could actually hit #1. I’d like to know too if this is the first coronation song to reach that high? Go magic rainbow go!!

  • spritely

I hope LadyMadonna comes over here today. She put up some coronation song info at TWOP today, but I don’t want to steal her thunder, so I won’t link, unless she doesn’t show up today.

I hope Archie’s fans aren’t worried at ALL about his progress. He has been making huge jumps in Top40, and it’s really great that, like DC, he’s on all three formats.

  • ggdoorsfan

No worries… :cool1_tb: there are no people prouder than the Archies regarding David A’s success to date… and we’re proud of DC’s success too :) …. David A’s continued success in life, and on the charts, is sweet validation to us that his talent is getting the recognition it deserves in the mainstream… something TPTB and many others weren’t very positive he’d be able to achieve… Thumbs up to him, and thumbs up to David Cook – they both R-O-C-K! :thumbup_tb:

  • idolbeat

    Congrats to DC and DA!
Go Kristy – up 2 more notches! BTW, it is Kristy not Kirsty ;) Considering her lack of promotion, she is doing pretty well!

Hi spritely – I popped-in here today too! No worries about stealing thunder. But as far as I know, TOML is indeed the only coronation song to hit #1 on any of the major format airplay charts. As we know, all of the coronation songs prior to S6 hit #1 on either the Hot-100 or Pop-100 charts, which are calculated using a combination of sales and airplay figures. But it is pretty much unheard of to have the trophy single continuing to climb the airplay-only charts 4 months after the finale. Kelly did hit #4 on both Top-40 and AC, but since then nobody until Cook has made real in-roads on the radio with the coronation song. Even Carrie only went to #12 on HAC with “Inside Your Heaven” (and Ruben took “Flying Without Wings” to #27 on AC and #13 on R&B). I’m sure I’m missing some….but I do think Cook is the only one to-date to hit #1.

Of course, AC doesn’t get you the audience impressions nor does it fuel sales the way other formats do. But all things considered, I would say that “enormously promising” would be an understatement in describing the potential that both Cook and Archie’s first singles are showing out of the gate.

  • FolkFan

“Enormously promising” sounds about right. Magic Rainbow that Could, indeed.

  • spanishfan

It is indeed the first coronation song to reach No. 1 on Mediabase. A brilliant achievement and after 4 months on the charts too. It has staying power which is brilliant for Cook.

I agree with you ladymadonna! As far as I’m concerned, a #1 single is a #1 single, regardless of whether it’s an AC #1 or Pop #1. Congratulations to DC! :clap_tb:
