    Rainbow rising!

I’m so happy to see this, because a.) it reinforces the idea that he is a hit machine; and b.) it’s still a thrill to hear it on the radio; and c.) he said “abracadabra” and made me love the damned song.

    Congratulations, Cap’n Cook.

  • Jolene

Congratulations Cookie, for breaking into the Pop top 40!
A question for those who’ve bee at this longer than me – when do the follow up singles for winners usually come out? During the tour, straight after? I wonder how long it’ll be before David has a non-rainbow single.

During the tour, straight after? I wonder how long ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be before David has a non-rainbow single.

Jordin’s first single, “Tattoo” was released during the tour. Its first appearance on the Billboard chart was the 9/15 issue. In fact, I remember congratulating Jordin when I met her in NH backstage after their last tour stop.

Taylor Hicks didn’t release his single until after his album was released. That didn’t work out very well. I don’t think the label will make that same mistake twice.

Although the rainbow song is doing well (and I love the acoustic version) it would be great if Cook released a single during the summer or early fall. From what he has said, he has quite a bit of material (songs) already….shouldn’t be to difficult to choose one which is radio friendly (read pop/rock) as a single before the album drops.

Jordinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s first single, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Tattooà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was released during the tour. Its first appearance on the Billboard chart was the 9/15 issue.

It seems logical that they would want to release another single before the album drops (Oct-Nov), so a single in September does make sense. I was sort of hoping for something a little earlier than that, but in that case he won’t be able to promote it, because he’d still be on tour.
Guess early September is most probable.

Guess early September is most probable.

Jordin may have released late August. That 9/15 was the first week the single appeared on the charts. It may have been out a few weeks beforehand. I don’t quite remember. I do remember it got off to a slow start, but eventually had a steady climb up the charts.

ETA: According to an old post, Jordin released her single on August 27th, shortly after her signing announcement. Jordin and Blake’s signings weren’t announced until August of last year. It was a very strange summer…

I don’t understand why they can’t release ABMB as a radio single.

  • jpfan

They can’t make careers off doing cover versions on Idol. I can’t think of a single contestant who put one of their idol songs on their first album (except for the coronation singles.) The trick is to become a legitimate recording artist by doing original music not covers. (Plus I think everyone who wanted ABMB already downloaded it. Without the show to push the sales, how many more could they sell?)

  • jdanton2

i know Latoya London had a longer version of All By Myself on her debut album . there are probably others i am sure .

Ruben did Superstar. Elliott did A Song For You. Guarini did Get Here. Diana did Don’t Cry Out Loud. KLo did SOtR.

    >>(Plus I think everyone who wanted ABMB already downloaded it. Without the show to push the sales, how many more could they sell?)

If ABMB gets on a movie/TV soundtrack and gets serious radio airplay, it could sell much more than it has already. It was doing pretty well for weeks and weeks after David performed it on the show so there’s definitely potential.

That said, it doesn’t belong on the album.

  • Trina

I noticed that today he’s up to #14 on Hot AC and #37 on Pop. Go magic rainbow! It’s the little engine that could! Now that he’s in the Top 40 will TOML be included in the weekend countdowns?

  • itsalleternal

I know little attention is paid to those who finished distantly on the show, but Jeff Johnson, who was cut in Hollywood week in Season 4, is at #27 on the Christian AC chart with “Ruin Me”, and Brooke Barrettsmith is on the same chart at #337* (debut) with “More Real”.
