After all, what could be a more sound business model for a music label, after investing a dollar or whatever it costs them to produce each disc, then to turn around and buy them all back at retail price down the line?

Haha, of course. On a related note, have you guys seen this article from Forbes about Idol's top earners? DC apparently earned an estimated 2 million since June 2008. With all the speculation about the restrictive contracts Idols get, and how little they earn relative to 19R/M/whatever, I'm guessing DC earning 2 mill means the label and his management are doing pretty well as well. Also, go Archie with 1.3mil.

ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not surprised since the target market of the newspaper he is writing for (Manila Bulletin) are retireesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦no one reads that paper anymore!

Thanks for the local perspective, RV65!

I am not sure what DCTR numbers will be. But I am guessing between 9 and 10 thousand. I could be completely wrong but looking at last weeks numbers at this point and this weeks numbers this is what I come up with. YMMV

^^^"the fact that one reviewer in the Phillipines thought that fans there didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know his songs is related to his sales totals in the US, how?"

That reviewer does not know his facts!...i'm not surprised since the target market of the newspaper he is writing for (Manila Bulletin) are retirees...no one reads that paper anymore! How could the Davids have attracted AT LEAST 50,000 people witout them knowing about their songs in the album?.......tsss!

No wait, haven't you heard the best conspiracy of them all? It was actually RCA who was buying up hundreds of thousands of Cook's CDs! Can't recall where exactly where I came across this ace-theory, but it's to me BY FAR the most plausible. After all, what could be a more sound business model for a music label, after investing a dollar or whatever it costs them to produce each disc, then to turn around and buy them all back at retail price down the line? Those mad financial geniuses!

Oh, come now. One of you (us, hehe) Cook fans out there hacked the system and fixed the numbers. You know you did :)

Cookie might not have major radio hits but I swear his songs come on every time I turn around. I was out and about Saturday and went into Subway and heard Time of My Life (a/k/a song that will never die) there, then in the car Light On, then came home and heard Come Back to Me...

And if it wasn't Cookie there were Idol songs everywhere - shoot, I went to the grocery store and heard Taylor's "Do I Make You Proud?" LOL!

Sigh, Elliott. He's so awesome... love, love his voice... his album is great...

^^ Don't you just love conspiracies? Ooh, shady.

any guesses from the DC numbers guruà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s on the final based on this update?

I would guess a return to around 7-8K, indeed the region he was in before Mother's Day. I'd also guess we'll have to wait for Brian's update to know his numbers this week, because he probably won't appear in the final HDD update. Next week, I'm betting he'll be back in there.

^^ Looks like DC is reverting back to pre-Mother's Day levels... any guesses from the DC numbers guru's on the final based on this update?

Also, LMAO'ing with Jolene (heh, I made it a verb). Yes, there is a mass conspiracy involving Soundscan, 19Evil, iTunes, retailers, etc. to goose DCTR's numbers. Besides, which, I'm confused by the logic here-- the 1.1 mil is for US sales, so the fact that one reviewer in the Phillipines thought that fans there didn't know his songs is related to his sales totals in the US, how?

Satellite radio has been instrumental in shaping today's radio playlists. I think it's interesting that David Cook has sold the numember of CDs that he is reported to have sold with no real radio hit except TOML. Archie seems to be about average for today's pop artists. Cook, I really question some of these numbers. Some reviewer in the Phillipines even remarked that the fans didn't seem to know very many of the songs he sang at Sat. concert.

hi noctem.... nobody knows for sure what the final disposition of zero gravity will be... i'd love for it to be a radio single - with a new mix that captures the raw and live energy david brings to it in a concert setting.... i 've listened to it several times since you made the comment about the melody being derivative of tmh, and i can't hear it, but who knows..... it's seems to be a universal favorite among fans and non fans, domestic and international, so we'll just have to see how it plays out....
