Platinum this week! I’m excited. So happy DC will reach Platinum before the 2nd single goes for adds. Feels like chapter one in the DCTR era is closing and a new chapter will begin later this month. Hopefully – a very good one.

I think Jive has been pushing it. It had a huge mediabase ad – those things aren’t cheap, I doubt they’d invest in it if they didn’t care how ALTNOY was doing.

It’s getting airplay, but it’s hard to tell how much. Last I checked, which was a couple weeks ago, Crush was #19 on the English singles top 20. The album seems to be selling pretty well.

I vaguely remember Tattoo taking a while to take off, and Jive being really patient with it. Think maybe they’ll do the same for ALTNOY and give it some time? If not, I hope Archie gets a monster single next, because that will hopefully ensure that he gets more singles than Jordin. I’m still a bit shocked that Jordin only got one more single after the massive success of No Air. I understand that she’s new, but she’s a pop artist that’s singles oriented, and getting only 3 seems a waste… unless there isn’t that much good material in her album (which I’ve not heard). I really like her voice (esp. compared to the other pop girl voices on Top40), so I hope she gets better material on her next album that I could rally behind.

Yeah, but Tattoo was her first single. I think labels will push a first single a lot harder than subsequent singles. I don’t think they had to push No Air much at all. It just took off. ALTNOY doesn’t appear like it is going to take off even though Jive appears to be pushing it. For whatever reason, stations don’t seem willing to play it.

If the current single doesn’t go anywhere, he needs to release Barriers immediately thereafter, if he wants to have a chance to make anymore of an impact with this album.

Yeah, YELD? Seriously? That is like the weakest song on the album, and I guess someone agrees, cause it was replaced in the japanese version. I just can’t imagine that one doing anything on radio, Jive better not listen to the fans this time.
I agree, Barriers seems like the better option. Or go back to Touch My Hands. That song sounds good on radio.

i think the reason Jordin did not get anymore singles was the fact that she left 19 Managment around the time a 4th single might have been released and they would continue to get profits from the sales of Jordin’s album so Jive probably didn’t bother.By the way her Mother has managed her since then according to a recent interview and there was supposed to have been an announcement of new managment last week though it did not happen then though hopefully soon.

Speaking as one who is not a fan of his album, I would say that the whistling song is one that I don’t mind listening to. I think fans sometimes have a skewed perspective – I was a bit surprise when there was the big push by fans for ALTNOY to be released as a single, I just thought that it isn’t a good song, really quite dull in fact. I don’t think Crush is a good song either, but I have to admit that it is very catchy, and that is what caught the attention of the listening public, and what made it a hit. I think the whistling song can catch the attention of non-fans, and that is what matters if you want them to go out and buy his album.

(For some reasons the song reminds me Wamdue Project’s “King Of My Castle”, a very different song, it’s probably the “mmm hmm” bit.)

I am a fan and I love YEDL, I love Barriers too though, and would prefer that to be the next single. His live performances of that have been stellar. I like ALTNOY but I think that they should have stuck to Touch My Hands as the second single. Fans shouldn’t always dictate what singles should drop as they are already converted. I also think they preferred ALTNOY because David co-wrote it, it’s a good song, but maybe not a great second single. Anyway it’s not doing bad, it’s just not Crush. Maybe Barriers will be.

Here’s what I don’t get other than knowing radio stations/DJ’s can be jerks when it comes to breaking into radio even coming off a big single. But what about the video? Hasn’t the ALTNOY video been out a while? Why is it not at least on the VH1 countdown or something?

I can’t really see things that way. IMO if they pushed ALTNOY a second time is because they believe David and they thought the song could get higher, maybe get top top 40 and from there see what happens.
I dunno, I don’t see this as any sign he won’t have a third single. It’s not that awful to have a flop, they can just release a third single, maybe having its debut on Z100 and it could be another hit. After Crush’s success it would be dumb to just give up.

I think I read that VH1 is counted as HAC. They won’t put ALTNOY on the playlist until it gains some traction on the HAC chart, supposedly. It’s all speculation at this point, but if that’s not the reason, I doubt it’ll ever get on the chart. It’s been out 2 months already, what could they be waiting for?

That’s really interesting. So because the album was made while Jordin was with 19M, they will continue to get a % of future profits even though she’s not with them anymore? But why would this affects Jive’s decision on a 4th single. They get profits from singles/album sales apart from 19M, so why does the fact that the profit sharing structure did not change after Jordin changed management make them nix any original plan for a 4th single? That doesn’t make sense.

About Jordin’s nixed 4th single – I think Jive saw that her singles are not moving the album, and they probably realized there are no more hit singles to be had from the current crop (that’s the rumor I heard, I don’t own the album though). If you’re not moving albums, the singles have to do really well to make a decent profit for the label, so I think it’s understandable to want to move on to the next album when the hit singles have been tapped out. It’s a different case when every additional single sells the album, as the case has been for Daughtry.

I’m sure that Archie will have a 3rd single, especially since some of the best songs have not been released yet. As a non-fan, the two songs that I liked the most and downloaded were Barriers and YEDL. I actually think YEDL is potentially the best song on the album. However, the reason I listen to Barriers and don’t listen to YEDL is that for me, Archie’s delivery of YEDL (both live and in studio) is way too bland for that kind of song, whereas I think he does an amazing job with Barriers. If Archie can figure out a way to make YEDL sound a little spunkier (and maybe more fast-paced), then I think he would have a mega-hit. Just my opinion. I think ALTNOY will eventually do well with the right exposure … Jive should probably be patient and wait for him to perform it on Idol!

I buy this theory a lot more than anything having to do with 19. Why on earth would Jive care if 19 gets a cut? Though I don’t agree there were no more hits to be heard. IMO “Freeze” was a big hit in the making.

Re: the HAC date being pulled. Ok that makes sense as to why VH1 isn’t playing the video, but with the adds date being pulled does that mean stations can’t play it? I always wondered how that worked like if a format can just play a song even without an impact date. I guess a better question would be why was the date removed?

ALTNOY scored 76.10 on Promosquadà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Hit Predictor for the Hot AC format. When sorted by score, it ranks as number 10 on that list. So it could do very well on Hot AC. I wish they would put out an add date to HotAC already.

You’re right-we don’t know that he’ll get a third single, but I seriously doubt that he won’t. I think it’s a pretty safe bet that he will get single #3 regardless of where ALTNOY ultimately peaks on the charts. It’s not like Archie has two flop singles and a flop album at this point like Blake Lewis. It doesn’t look like JIVE is in any hurry to give up on Archie or this album (and I don’t see any reason why they should).

I still don’t think this song (ALTNOY) is done yet, but we’ll see. If it fails to pick up more ground, I hope they move on to Barriers. That was my preference for single #2, but better late than never. I still think ALTNOY was a better choice than Touch My Hand though. As much as fans are now saying that they should have stuck with TMH, I think that song would have struggled just as much (if not more) to climb the charts in my opinion.

And the fans didn’t have any campaign or push for ALTNOY to be the 2nd single. A lot of the fans didn’t care for TMH as the 2nd single, true, and frankly, neither did I. IMO, if ALTNOY doesn’t take off, I really doubt TMH would have. I’ve always thought ALTNOY was more radio friendly. I think some of the people on David’s team thought the fans would feel good by saying they were partially the reason the single was changed, but Jive isn’t the type of label to put an artist’s career in the hands of the fans. I think the fans had about as much to do with the switching of the single as any other testing of the song, like on Promosquad. And that’s about it.

ALTNOY isn’t dead, although people talk as if it were. It’s not taking off, that’s true. But that’s different than dead. It’s not over until Jive pushes something new, and David is still introducing ALTNOY as his “new” single. So whether people dig the song or not (and a lot of people dig the song, including me), it’s not done.

Whatever radio wants to do–let a novelty song about a college weekend bender rise to the top or allow Britney singing her ABCs to become a smash hit–Jive is going to roll with it. As much as we (and I) speculate, we have no real solid knowledge about what Jive is doing behind the scenes, and what they ultimately want to accomplish with David. What we do know is that David is selling out venues (not tiny venues, either, and at least one oversold by 150 tickets), and becoming one heck of a pop star. And Jive is seeing that (executives were at his sold-out NJ show). They believe in him enough to push him in the UK and Japan, two of the largest music markets in the world, and send him out on international tours. I have to believe they know his potential beyond one song that may not have found its timing on CHR.

It was very much on the radar of being selected. ALTNOY was on Promosquad before it was chosen as a single. Way before. TMH and My Hands went up first, then shortly thereafter ALTNOY went up on its own. And that was a few weeks before the album was released and before Crush peaked. Jive was thinking about ALTNOY as a second single before the fans new anything about a second single.

I won’t pretend to know everything, but from what I have learned from people on here, radio play has a lot to do with the success of a song. For some reason, stations aren’t playing ALTNOY as much as you would think after the success of Crush. It is all a puzzle to me, because IMO Altnoy is a great song. I can’t remember when it came out, but I think patience is in order. I remember that LO took about 2 1/2 months to really take off. If David Sang ALTNOY on AI, which may not happen since he is rumored to be on in early May, it would really take off. Although adds are slow, they are still coming, so I continue to be patient.

This is just speculation on my part, but I think how the song performed on iTunes the week of the album release may have played a small part. The song was outselling TMH in downloads the week of the album release. I remember that the weekend following the album release, ALTNOY showed up on promosquad. A couple of days later, a RTM survey for ALTNOY showed up. I had a feeling that they were thinking of a switch at that point, and one of the Archie fansites (FOD?) confirmed the switch later that week.

I think one of the fansites put up a snippet of ALTNOY not long after TMH and My Hands showed up on promosquad. ALTNOY didn’t show up on promosquad until a few days after the album release IIRC.

I don’t know about fan input, but I do remember hearing snippets for TMH and MH here on mjs because they were testing them elsewhere. Then I remember hearing ALTNOY a short while later for the same reason. I had the impressions the songs were being purposely leaked because they were all being considered as singles.

They got a snippet, yes, but I believe they got a longer snippet from Promosquad. People were spazzing because you could hear the entire bridge on the Promosquad version. And they wouldn’t be spazzing if they already had the album.

Timing doesn’t matter anyway (whether I’m right or I’m remembering wrong)–it was obvious they were considering ALTNOY as a second single before they ever announced TMH as the second single because ALTNOY wound up on Promosquad before that time.

Since it came up earlier in the thread I thought I would report that I have heard Crush a couple of times in Japan. Once in a kids bowling alley and once in a clothing store. I would speculate that if it is being played enough that I heard it twice casually, it is probably getting pretty good airplay here.

Have you guys heard the snippet of David’s recording of Zero Gravity that was leaked over at Snarky Archies today? Honestly the song sounds like Lady Gaga…I think it’s great but what do I know, I thought ALTNOY would be bigger than Crush :wacko_tb:

I think David will end up being huge overseas (especially Asia), but always have a loyal following here. And that’s fine…as long as he keeps making music and performing that works for me :smile1_tb:

I might be remembering wrong myself, but I think we were both attempting to make the same point anyway (that the decision to switch the single didn’t just come out of the blue).

I think the song that Archie co-wrote with JC from NSYNC, “Don’t Let Go” would be an excellent single. It seems current and radio-friendly.

I had actually thought that ALTNOY would do better than Crush too since I think it is a far better song than the latter. (Not that the latter isn’t a good song, it is. But I like ALTNOY more). FWIW, it did well in the Philippines and the video is still doing well in some radio stations. The video is doing great as well. As to whether or not they’re giving him a new single, I guess only time will tell.

On Kelly now, I love the fact that they have a new date for a new single despite the fact that MLWSWY still has a bullet on all formats. Way to go Kelly!

Maybe not. I’m just glad he had new stuff on the horizon when the record finally started to run out of steam. He’s had a pretty good run under LO and TOML. Now its time for CBTM and Barbasol to take up the banner. Fingers crossed.

I’m also glad new singles on the horizon and hope, hope they do the job! I do like the idea of LO being the only single to get him to platinum though! Good stuff! Again, hoping for more!

Eh, I honestly could care less about the numbers from now until the new singles start climbing (or he appears on AI, which will probably happen sooner). I’m just happy the album got to Platinum before anything other than LO went for adds, I didn’t think it could happen and it did. That’s amazing to me – selling Platinum without a big CHR hit, just shows DC has mad potential with this album.

Z100 added ALTNOY. So yeah, with a Daddy station on board, the song may get more adds. There’s a whole lot of stations that simply won’t add a song if a Daddy like Z100 isn’t on board. If it does nothing else, it’ll help it sales-wise.

That’s great news! To be honest, I didn’t think that was going to happen, since it took them so long. It seems though, that Jive really does have a great relationship with Z100. They added Britney’s song also (not so happy about that one though!)
