The big milestone this week is “Don’t You Wanna Stay” moving into the top 5 on Country. This duet between Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean seems poised to take the number one spot in the next few weeks on this chart.

The other milestone this week is from one of our new judges. Jennifer Lopez’s song with Pitbull has reached top 40 on Pop.

Meanwhile, we say goodbye to Lee DeWyze as his debut single from his debut album “Sweet Serendipity” is purged from the HAC chart. Also leaving the chart is Fantasia’s second single “I’m Doin’ Me” from Urban.

Details after the jump! (as of 7:22 pm on 02/20/11).

Crystal Bowersox:
“Farmer’s Daughter”: ^47 AAA (44)

Daughtry:
“September”: 2 AC (2)

Fantasia:
“I’m Doin’ Me”: ^5 UAC (4)

Jason Castro:
“You Are”: 15 CAC (15)

Jennifer Hudson:

Kelly Clarkson:
“Don’t You Wanna Stay” with Jason Aldean: ^3 Country (7)

Kimberly Caldwell:
“Desperate Girls and Stupid Boys”: ^46 HAC (48)

Mandisa:
“Stronger”: ^17 CAC (19)

Jennifer Lopez
“On the Floor” featuring Pitbull: ^38 Pop (44), ^46 RHY (47)

Note: Numbers indicate position on the chart while numbers in brackets indicate the position on the chart the previous week. The “^” (aka “a bullet”) indicates that a song gained spins since last week

This is the daily numbers thread for Monday.

Wow, Sweet Serendipity fell hard and fast. Maybe clearing the way for the next single?

  • luly

    Congrats to Kelly :D.

Good luck to Crystal with the adds today.

I don’t get what RCA are waiting for and why Lee’s next single hasn’t been released yet.

  • girlygirl

    nvm

  • Valentin432

I’m a little worried for Crystal single, it’s been some time it has been released and has apparently stalled on AAA. Neither HAC nor country have picked it up (even tough CMA is giving it some love), so it’s not getting any airplay so far.
Album sales have stayed somewhat steady but I can’t believe it will stay that way for much longer without the single performing better.

  • Tess

I think Lee is one and done. His album is no longer on the Billboard 200 so there is no reason to spend the money to promote a single for an album that has vanished from the charts. He will probably get a small tour this spring and summer and when the next Idol champ is named he will be dropped from RCA.

No need to feel sorry for him….he made a boatload of cash, has some industry cred, and is better known to booking agents.

  • Elliegrll

Farmer’s Daughter was already added to 5 HAC stations, but three of those stations didn’t play it at all last week, and at least two of those didn’t play it at all the week before, either. I wonder if that will have an effect on how many adds the song gets today.

Since there aren’t a lot of AAA stations, and spins for that format are so low, it’s hard to tell when a song has stalled on that format. It could have stalled, since no new stations played it last week or the week before.

Where did Lee’s SS peak on HAC, #22?

  • windmills

Annoying development on the country chart. Taylor Swift’s label just started a monster push for Back To December so it suddenly jumped 500 points in 1 day on Mediabase and moved up to #2 passing Brad and Jason/Kelly, pushing DYWS down to #4. This might be another situation like Taylor’s lead single from the album where it was going to peak at #5 but then the label did a monster one week push to get a #2 peak at Billboard and a #1 peak at Mediabase before the song had a record collapse. It’s stupid but I guess they want the bragging rights even though country radio’s obviously not going to take the song to #1 naturally.

DYWS should still be ahead of Back To December on Billboard. It’s a little under 300 points behind Brad’s single and less than 320 points behind Back To December on Mediabase. It wouldn’t be hard to repass but I think Taylor’s label means business so I think DYWS might have to sit back for a week and be content to just pass Brad’s song.

#23 was the peak that was showing when SS was still in the HAC top 40.

Ok.. hopefully you guys can fill in the blanks for me. I don’t follow Crystal, but I like to follow the airplay charts. Doesn’t she has some sort of performance scheduled where she performs in front of a number of exec (or other folks) from AAA stations? Sorry I don’t recall the details about the event. Did this already happen or is it scheduled in the near future. I seem to remember folks thinking this would be a game changer for her single.

  • plays strings

Your probably referring to Sunset Sessions which happened this past weekend. Haven’t seen any video or many comments to indicate how well she did. Maybe more info will surface today.

  • koshka

plays strings… that was exactly it! Thanks. Hopefully something will bubble up.

  • easyrider707

Plays strings – the big AAA event you are thinking about is South by Southwest in Austin in March.

I just get this picture of some die-hard country stations starting the morning with a rousing rendition of the anthem to get their listeners out of bed. I just find this too amusing.

  • tripp_ncwy

I had forgotten about the Charlie Wilson song featuring Fantasia. So I added it to the chart.

Sunset Sessions is the AAA event that happened this weekend…On Thursday she opened things with an unscheduled performance and got an encore…she tweeted that it was great crowd…her scheduled performance was Saturday night, nothing posted but she also performed at a late night party. she tweeted that she was happy meeting Stevie Nicks…

That event could get her adds…its more focused than South by southwest where there are hundreds of acts. Sunset Sessions was more important for Radio since she was the only one performing when she performed…South by Southwest has stages all over Austin.

  • steph6449

Has Crystal’s official HAC add date already occurred? I thought it was around now. (I haven’t seen anything indicating they have made the song available to country radio, just the video to the CMT outlets.)

Lol. But you aren’t all that wrong ;) My country station often plays a version of the NA at noon on their weekday broadcasts. The artist varies.

South by southwest is big, but Sunset Sessions was an AAA industry conference. I think it has more bang for the buck.

  • tripp_ncwy

It’s today. Kirsten has it posted in the up top.

  • girlygirl

SXSW isn’t a AAA event — it’s a huge music festival with artists across all genres. Many of whom are unsigned. It’s one of the places where you are sure to find tons of A&R execs.

Sunset Sessions is the AAA event Crystal performed at over this past weekend.

  • plays strings

I’m learning that these industry things can be a little frustrating because they don’t seem to release much for public consumption. Crystal was so strong going into this thing (the Kink videos were amazing) that I hope it carried over. She seemed a little road weary. I did see a tweet about her “burning the place down” with Bobby McGee which is her wheelhouse. I’m just curious what else she might have done for these folks.

  • easyrider707

From comments above it appears SXSW is broader marketed event and Sunset more exclusive and focused. Good strategy to hit both broad and focused. I could not find any videos up last night of the winter (AAA) Sunset for any of the acts.

I think Bobbie McGee was from late Sat party for some reason? She is typically very good, even on a bad day. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING WILL SURFACE TODAY.

  • BeachBum

This whole radio process fascinates me. Can anyone point me towards getting additional resources in regards to how the whole radio/promotion process works these days? For example, I don’t really understand the whole “adds” thing. Can a station only add the song on or after an official add date… do they have to play that song or can they play another song from the album? Do they have to play the song a certain number of times? What’s the label’s role in the process and is the process similar for commercial and paid/satellite radio? From everything I read on this and other forums, it sounds like payola/plugola is rampant in the business. I know from my radio/TV history classes it used to be “illegal”, but I believe that all changed after the Communications Act with basically deregulated the entire industry. Thanks in advance and everyone have a great week!!

  • Tess

Payola: as long as no cash changes hands and DJs are basically kept out of the process (if they are “free” to spin by choice) then it does exist. Artists are not paid for radio interviews and or on-site visits and they will often “donate” their time to special radio gigs. Artists will also donate tour tickets to a station.

I have a feeling that Taylor’s payola for her across the board spins will be numerous free tickets for the stations for her upcoming tour to support her last album. I am sure the label marketing people inundate the stations with this promo and restrict the give away unless the station complies to the mass date.

The more a label can do for a station in terms of freebies and advertising the more a station will do for artists on their rosters. But…the bottom line for any radio station is profitability and no amount of “payola” can force a station to play a song if their audience doesn’t connect to it. It’s a tough world for radio…they need to have their market share or advertising dollars just dwindle.

Lee no surprise with SS basically gone from the charts.

But Crystal didn’t pick up one HAC station on her add date, or any new AAA stations. Hmm. Are they reporting in today, or is the holiday messing with the results?

Good for Jennifer Hudson, didn’t realize she was someone who might get radio play. Thought she’d had more exposure in theater/filmwork.

I think a lot of PDs took the day off. So far, only 6 Triple A and 29 HAC stations have reported.

  • revolution

Bobby Mcgee might have been Thursday night, she did an encore that night after bringing the house down. it was the first night of the conference…Saturday was her featured show…

Good forr Mumford. I am glad the publicity they are achieving is helping this folky bluegrass genre that has many very strong artists in the US and Canada. And finally some recognition for the Avett Brothers and the guy hosting VH1Top 20 mentioned Old Crow Saturday.

For die-hards in this area the Mumford rise is a bit perplexing in an area where there are so many long time acts. My theory, right or wrong, is that Mumford being much less technically proficient than many of these acts actually makes them more attractive to a broader audience. The die hards will still make comments, but I think any publicity is good and these guys are good guys that support the genre.

However, the grammys should have brought out Old Crow with Dylan and the groups should have joined in on Wagon Wheel.

Wow, Sweet Serendipity fell hard and fast. Maybe clearing the way for the next single?

Glad about that. SS is a very mediocre song. His next single will probably be 19′s last attempt to ‘revive’ his much album failure and the other fact that its been out of the BB 200 since, ?3 weeks ago? Even his future performance on Idol will not do miracle wonders for his album.
