He is very picky musically.

I love how one week changes just about everything in the blogosphere. All of a sudden, Phil will make top 3, Blake will be the surprise elimination, Melinda will not win, Lakisha will make it further than top 4, Chris will be in the top 2. Gah – it’s all craziness. I say, why don’t we wait until the performances before we decide who’s going to be eliminated weekly?

Good grief… *** looks 40 something in some of those pictures.. Nothing wrong with looking 40 when you’re 50, 60 or 70, but to look 40 when you’re ONLY 22.. NOT GOOD..JMHO

Kimmel is probably a repeat. Sanjaya might parlay that charm into an actual career.Too bad he’s still a pretty lousy singer. Elliott is now #41 on one Top 40 charts and 40 on the other Mediabase Top 40 chart. So congratulations Elliott on having a top 40 hit on an indie label without benefit of payola.

Kat looks great in those pictures, as usual, of course only my opinion, and I think the reason there were so many pics of Kat is because she won the Exciting New Vocalist Award and it was presented to her by Randy Jackson. This is the 9th annual awards and Katharine won. Way to go Kat!!!!

And also on the front page of the blog it says this is Katharine’s second week at #2 on the VH1 countdown, well actually this is her second week at #1, not 2, just thought I’d help straighten that out.

Kat is a stunner. Let’s see what kind of career she actually has. I predict model/theatre NOT music//concerts. That’s how my Magic 8 ball sees it. As I said awhile back, I can see Clive dropping both Taylor and Kat (for different reasons.) It still sucks for both Taylor and Kat that they’re off the idol radar for now. I assume they’ll be at the finale but who knows.

Congrats to Kat for winning an award that doesn’t require internet voting (probably a good PR person is enough.)

Melinda and Elliott are both great singers. I don’t see much other similarity. Melinda is really out of the Christian scene and Elliott is much more urban. I can’t see Melinda putting out a song that can go on a playlist with Ludacris, Bow Wow, etc. (It’s a little weird to see E there as well.) Plus Melinda is the clear favorite and E was the classic underdog. Different roles on the show.

Nothing, I have nothing bad to say about Katharine, I really, really like her, she’s my favorite, just like you have yours, I enjoy everything she does, and I don’t say all that stuff like “omg look at Kat in glasses, or she’s so dorky, blah, blah, blah.” I am almost 30 years old, not 13, Katharine is my favorite person to ever be on American Idol, I can’t explain it and really don’t feel like I have to. Well, it’s always nice to see your favorite celeb being recognized. But “flipping out?” No. To me it’s much more of a reward to see Taylor being invited to play onstage with greats such as Widespread Panic, Keb’ Mo’, and the Allman Brothers. Every time he’s invited to play with one of them, it’s recognition. The only difference is that these bands don’t need to hand out trophies to signify their respect for Taylor. Not that receiving a statue is any small feat, it’s great, but in my eyes, Katharine gets recognition from the glittery Hollywood circle, while Taylor gets recognition from the musical one. One is just more public than the other, but they’re both doing well.

Oh yeah…I heard somewhere that Kat gave an interview in which she stated “I don’t really read books.” True or not?

Kat’s award wasn’t A or D list so she’s floating around C/B-, right around now.
However, if she starts showing up at movie premieres, she’s going down the food chain fast.

I didn’t want Kat to win American Idol, I wanted her to come in second place, I guess you could say “oh well lol no you didn’t” but i did because you have more artistic freedom, a shorter contract and get basically the same perks as the winner. Katharine had a condition when she was younger in one of her eyes that caused it not to focus and hence was tough for her to read and she was constantly known as the “dumb pretty kid”. Knowing this I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t like books. Oh wait, here come the “OH LOL YOU’RE JUST MAKING EXCUSES FOR KATHARINE!!” so either you guys think she’s perfect, and hence will have nothing wrong with her ever. Or have the hate-pretty girls complex, which is if someone is pretty, how can their life ever be difficult! They must have everything handed to them and never have to work for anything!

I just read an interesting email re: a Kat fan who has bot-voting down to a fine science. Now I understand the #1 VH1 and TRL rankings and why the posters at the VH1 message boards were having a melt down this weekend.

1. If one “fan-base” can bot-vote, so can they all. Unless there is some computer geniuses amongst the Kat fans, which I suppose that there could be. Is the accusation here that Kat fans are the most intelligent fans? If I was a Kat fan, I would be thrilled.

2. What is the difference between bot-voting and manually voting for 3 hours? Both are stuffing the ballot box.

3. I’ve read the VH1 message board and I CANNOT believe that the Daughtry fans feel morally superior to Kat fans for this alleged bot-voting. This is a freakin’ video popularity contest, not something world changing.

4. Kat’s number one status has been blamed on everything from Taylor fans voting for her, Elliott fans voting for her and now Bots. Next thing you know, Call Centers in India and Global Warming will be blamed. Why can’t it just be that the video has a lot of fans who don’t mind spending time voting for the damn video? It’s not my cup of tea, but I’m not know that not everybody agrees with me. If we are going to come up for conspiracy theories and morality plays for Kat, I guess we need to do that for all Idols who manage to get the number 1 video.

Congratulation Kat and her fans for having the number 1 video! However it was done, it was an achievement.

OK, OK….a BOBBY BENNETT concert recap teaser….

Midway through the sold out performance, Bobby sat on a high stool off the stage….suddenly the lights dimmed, the disco ball reflected the light from a lone spot light around the room, then suddenly the American Idol theme song blared from the speakers.

After a minute or so of this, the AI music stopped, then a tape recorded version of Bobby singing Copacabana during rehearsals for the AI show, from which he was ultimately booted, played. He provided commentary for the recording…he shared that Nigel and Simon F questioned his choice of song, but he persevered. During rehearsal he was spot on pitch, key, and tune for the entire song. He poked fun of himself for slaughtering the song during the live taping…”why didn’t it turn out that way during live television” he asked aloud. Then, he got up, slowly walked to center stage, and performed it once again…..COPACABANA.

Suffice it to say, all in the crowd were on their feet….my black feathered boa even made a brief appearance in the performance.

Last night, as I was reading Dr. Suess, I thought, “Hey, Blake could be the new Bartholomew and his 500 Hats. Though, he would need to buy 200 more”.

So, later, instead of focusing on doing my taxes, my mind drifted to what other Dr. Suess characters could Idol characters be.

Phil would be Horton because he’s always being mocked. I was torn between whether Simon should be the Grinch with Ryan as his dog Max, or if he sould be the Green Eggs and Ham guy with Ryan as Sam I Am. Clive must be the Onceler, but who would be the Lorax? Paula would be the Fox in Socks.

But then, I started thinking, am I better than any of those people who spent last season wondering what type of ice cream Taylor would be?

Maybe they were just trying not to do their taxes too.

Kristen, I was under the impression that tbe videos on VH1 Countdown earned their ranking by some tally up of air-play, where they sat on the charts, and votes? Is it just votes alone that sends a video to the top of the VH1 Countdown charts.

Honestly, I have never seen Kat’s video on VH1 once since it’s debut on the Countdown back in January. I was a bit surprised when someone posted that it dropped in from nowhere into the number one spot after being out for four months. I can see why some would be a bit suspicious.

Oh, ITA. If Taylor had a video out there, I’m 100% sure that his fans would work their fingers to the bone dialing, voting, and bot-voting to make sure it reached #1. All the Idols have dedicated fanbases that are willing to artificially inflate their Idol’s seeming popularity. It’s just the way of the game. I guess that’s why I don’t think anyone can make any long-term predictions about the success or failure of any of these people until a few years down the road.

And so Taylor’s CMT (tm Kirsten) is/was satisfied with his sales and the negative publicity he’s gotten that they didn’t/don’t aggressively pursue other avenues to try and boost sales. But….. Taylor is having one heck of a fantastic, awesome, and SUCCESSFUL tour, and that’s every bit as important to an artist who wants to stay in the business long term than numbers of cds sold. Just wish that fact was getting more attention than ‘units’ sold.

There have been fan wars and ballot box stuffing/spamming ever since there were fans. All popular singers have a fanbase, you should hear some of the stories about the Christina Aguilera fans vs the Britney Spears fans, N’Synch vs BSB. It isn’t unique to AI.

I love how one week changes just about everything in the blogosphere. All of a sudden, Phil will make top 3, Blake will be the surprise elimination, Melinda will not win, Lakisha will make it further than top 4, Chris will be in the top 2. Things got very interesting on Idol last week: Some of the players upped their games. Specifically, both Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks raised the stakes of the game, and one of the powerhouses faltered in her song choice. Watching the show last week also made me think of something. Maybe this season seems so bad to most of us because of last seasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s group. Think about it: Elliott Yamin has incredible vocal talent. He can sing literally anything and is still one of the best vocalists this show has ever seen (thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nothing; wait until you read my review of his CD).

Chris Daughtry has the whole package: vocals, presence, and rock star looks; Taylor is the entertainer; Ace is the sweetheart with the falsetto; and Bucky is the enthusiastic country boy. Yes, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m talking about the men. The men this year canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t touch the group from last year.

I’ve purchased a bunch of them for fun and beyond loving every single mp3 of Phils — especially “Make You Love Me”, I seem to keep playing Haley’s Missing You. It’s the only Haley one I have and Diana Ross was absolutely right — her voice is made for recording.

Now back to Phil’s voice–if your Phil’s wife I apologize ahead of time, but when you have his voice front and center and don’t have to worry about the visuals, his beautiful voice really comes into its own.

This thread could almost use some hijacking today. I totally agree about the yield. It’s like collecting rent in Monopoly, challenging your opponents in Risk or tapping a ball in croquet. It’s a strategy, use it that way.

The only negative publicity Taylor has gotten about his cd sales have come in the form of the silly AI comparison games and the critics picking up on it… In the “REAL WORLD” Taylor’s cd is doing very well for the type of cd that it is.. Maybe Taylor’s CMT are more looking at the reality of Taylor’s music career and keeping him in the business for a longtime and less about keeping the fan competition going..

I agree about the yield. I never would have yielded Eric and Danielle though. I would have yielded Charla and Myrna. Though in retrospect, I guess they made the right choice, since Eric and Danielle still managed to get to second place (not including yield time).

I’ve asked people to stop it. AND I MEAN IT. STOP IT.

RE whoever asked if anyone has purchased any of the mp3s. I have. I have all of Blake’s, plus 2 of Gina’s (I’ll Stand By You and Smile) and Jordin’s Broken Wing. They all sound great! I know I’ve said this before, but Blake’s version of When The Stars Go Blue is absolutely gorgeous. And I had never heard the song before(don’t like country.) But what he did with it is amazing. His recorded voice is awesome. I see him going far. I can’t wait to hear what he does post AI. I love all his stuff pre- AI too.

Well, I’m sorry to hear that you won’t be able to witness the GREATEST CHARITY EVENT IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE!!!1!ONE! but I’m sure there will lots of recaps and video clips available. Seriously, I know it’s not quite the same but if it helps, I can record it on DVR if you want to see it.

Steve-o – as JJ said, make pizza! It’s really easy. If you don’t feel like making your own pizza dough, go to a local pizza place. They will usually sell raw dough. Just make sure to keep it in the fridge until you use it (buy it the same day). Use some leftover marinara sauce, some cheese and done. Super easy. And there is nothing like homemade pizza.

The stone just makes the crust crisper (is that a word?). You can roll the dough out right on the stone (with the Pampered Chef mini-roller, lol I should sell this stuff).

I’ve tried making my own dough, but it never turns out as well as the store bought dough. I’ve acutally freezed it and it is fine. We’ve made all kinds of pizza. Last week, dear hubby made white pizza with clams, YUM!

undecided – just follow the seasoning instructions that come with the stone. The first few times you use it, you have to use cooking spray. After a few uses, you don’t have to use anything, nothing sticks. Most stones come with a cleaning tool that you use to scrape the stone when cleaning it. (sorry about all the OT stuff, MJ)

Steve – you can use it lots of ways. As JJ said, you can prepare your pizza while heating up the stone, transfer the pizza to the stone and cook. We’ve always rolled the dough out right on the room temperature stone and then put the pizza in the oven. The crust doesn’t come out quite as crisp that way. We do it mainly because we don’t own a pizza peel so don’t have an easy way to transfer the pizza to the hot stone.
Also, if you buy pizza, transfer it to the hot stone in a warm oven to re-heat. It re-heats pizza almost as well as it makes it from scratch!

Hezzer19 is our resident expert at dealing with flying, stinging insects. I believe that she uses hairspray and vacuum cleaners. Chuck Norris is sometimes required.

Seriously, for the underground bees, try contacting your local beekeeping club. Somebody may come and take them off your hands for free. Either that or they may have some advice on what you should do.

Big and Sexy hairspray worked for wasps (just ask Hezzer), maybe it’ll work as well for bees.

Sorry – but I am going back to the pizza stone thing for a minute.

Yu can also use it to cook chicken fingers or frozen french fries, stuff like that. It retains heat evenly so you don’t need to flip anything over 1/2 way through and it doesnt get overdone on the outside and not on the inside.

I also use mine for cookies. I buy the buckets of refrigerated cookie dough and it’s perfect if you only want to make a few at a time and you have no will power like me and will eat as many as you make. Just make sure it’s been used a few times for something else and is seasoned or they will stick – of not try parchment paper.

Your stone will look pretty bad after a while but they say the worse it looks the better it works.

MJ – Pampered Chef should pay you or sponsor you or something for this!

That is odd, Kirsten. Maybe they want extra time so the idols can prepare something for Wednesday night? Seems they’d be doing that at the expense of performance night. Unless they allow multiple takes, since it isn’t live, to compensate for less rehearsal time.

I read that the show is being taped this week because the songs and intro videos are a little longer this week (probably to discuss why something is a life anthem or inspirational song to the contestants). They want to make sure they don’t run over so pre-taping is best.

Plus it gives the Idols tomorrow to rehearse for Quincy Jones’ new song for them.

I know you aren’t the one who mentioned it, but I’m still curious if anybody knows the answer. It just seems odd to me that one contestant would be allowed/have the time to fly all the way across the country for such an event.

That may be the reason they are giving, but that does not pass the sniff test for me. The intro videos are prepared in advance so they know exactly how long they are. Again, the songs are spliced to the second. This is a live show they’ve been doing for 6 years. They know the drill.

They’ve been having the 1 hour format since final 10. Do they expect me to believe that they cannot fit in 6 performers all of a sudden?

I suspect that, as you said, it has more to do with rehearsing for the IGB night. If I was cynical…I would say it was so TCO’s could have do-overs if they mess up their performance. And maybe they fear another live eye-rolling controversy. They are leaving nothing to chance for this week.

I’m pretty sure they are taping the show because of all the stuff going on for the big IGF special. They are hosting it in two different locations and have Ellen as a cohost.

I doubt they will do “do-overs” because it is still filmed in front of a live audience. I know someone who is attending the rehearsals today. I hope we get some spoilers.

I think they probably don’t have the time to prepare and pull off a live show Tuesday AND pull off the big extravaganza Wednesday which is 2 hours from 2 locations. Too much in too short a period of time.

Wow. Excellent numbers for Bucky. He could eventually do as well or better than Kellie. I feel sorry for Ace. So far, he’s the only guy without a deal and that’s got to feel bad. The show made him seem like an airhead but he’s really a decent guy. Mad props, Ace.

Hey guys. OMG Jersey – I cannot believe I forgot to mention Leather Pants Man! Picture if you will people, a new kind of Taylor fan: He was kind of a short guy, with jet black, slicked back hair. Nothing against Sanjaya who seems very sweet but the fact that he’s the big media darling this year does not bode well for idol. Kind of like the show needs some freaky stuff to make it work. It’s still huge but feels past its prime. Please next year more backstories – people with parents in jail, overcoming illness, etc., etc. More emotion guys.

Possible reasons why I’m not all that excited:

1) It always seems like the Idol PTB have alterior motives. Is it really just to help poor kids or is it to pat themselves on the back, boost ratings, a gimmick or Emmy bait? Idol has done things for charity in the past, so perhaps I should not be so cynical.

2) They chose to focus on Simon. This is the dude that likens people to bush babies and publicly complains that he only earns a $100 million a year rather than the $500 million he is worth. I think that they would have done better to focus on Paula. People could see her being charitable. Plus, I think she would have actually connected with the kids they visited rather than looking like she was photoshopped in later.

3) Why not have the Idol Gives Back as a Sunday Night Special? I’m sure that Fox would be thrilled to have another night of Idol. It seems so cynical to have all this feel-good stuff whilst preparing to boot somebody from the show at the end of it.

4) Lack of focus on the charity. It seems to be to give money to some deserving folk, but we don’t know who those people are. At least with the big telethons and specials, they seem to have a set goal. Find a cure to something or disaster relief for Tsunami victims. Helping the poor is noble, but how do you plan on doing it? The school in the box is a great idea, but they never actually said that was what they are going to do. They haven’t even completely explained how they plan on getting this money. Some will come from voting and some from sponsorship. How will IGB earn money? Further, why are they telling companies like Exxon to send them an e-mail if they want to donate? Why not phone Exxon yourself? Beat the pavement a little. Oh, and what are their administrative costs. Oprah covers them herself so that every dollar donated goes to help the intended recipient.

It will probably be a good show though.

Coming out of lurkdom to say “YAY” regarding Bono possibly appearing on AI this week. And another big “YAY” for Bucky!

And for those who really ARE interested in a little Daughtry news (okay, I was suffering from a major case of PMS earlier today but the drugs are working FINE now): Daughtry will be performing on AI on 5/22, Ellen on 5/24, opening for Bon Jovi in Las Vegas on 5/26, and at the Indy 500 on 5/27. The band is also scheduled to appear on Letterman sometime in May.

The “Home” video was released last week and is a tribute to the Greensboro concert (I so LOVE this video!). “What I Want” is being released to rock radio today (it’s already #1 on my local rock station!). So yes, there are currently 3 singles released from the Daughtry CD. “There and Back Again” is the official theme song of WWE’s Backlash pay-per-view and is featured on the WWE website.

Daughtry is headed to Austrailia in June and Asia later this year on a promotional tour.

And just to get the focus back on Season 6….Any REAL spoilers? I like to know ahead of time so I can prepare myself for a possible trainwreck. Seriously, I think this week could be really, really good.

I’m sure this was all in the works when he said they didn’t have plans to have Daughtry on the show. I don’t trust any of TPTB.

I don’t pay attention to the Idol’s personal relationships all that much, and I hope this isn’t too much of a generalization, but what is it that the Kat fans don’t like about this Nick guy? I CONSTANTLY see them badmouthing him. Okay, it’s a little odd that she’s with someone who’s 20 years older than she is, but if they truly love each other and make each other happy for some reason, who cares? If you (not you, AFan, but “you” in the general sense) are really a fan of someone and want the best for them, why talk so much trash about the boyfriend? A lot of us just rag on Nick because it’s easy, he’s always in the back of her pictures lurking and we just have a laugh about it. We don’t actually dislike the guy that much. I make fun of him a lot probably and I like the guy! And AFan, as hard as it may be to believe but Nick is rather attractive in real life, i don’t think he photographs well. And he has a great sense of humour.

Checking in to see what the general discussion is this afternoon. About this charity event. I have heard Simon say that he does not want children. So does he like children at all? Will he be heard calling the little children bush babies too? If I were younger I would be all excited about seeing all of these stars, plus contributing all this money. The thing is, many of these charities have poor oversight and most of the money goes to administration. The company my husband worked for, gave millions to United Way, until they found out that only about 25% went to the actual charities. The employees were stunned and stopped giving. I prefer to give food to my local church social service office where I actually see it feed people. Whatever good they can do is worth it as long as it isn’t all about lining peoples pockets like Katrina. I know from people that this happened.

The only AI 5 alum that deserves to appear on finale night is Taylor so he can pass on the torch to the next winner. Of course, this is just MY opinion.

Totally off the subject of AI or music….How do other states handle severe storm warnings? I’m watching television right now and am watching the total life cycle of a tornado in NW Oklahoma, from formation of the storm line, to the wall cloud, to the funnel going up and down, to the actual debris. When there are severe storms here, all network shows are interrupted for HOURS on end with weather coverage.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m watching television right now and am watching the total life cycle of a tornado in NW Oklahoma, from formation of the storm line, to the wall cloud, to the funnel going up and down, to the actual debris. When there are severe storms here, all network shows are interrupted for HOURS on end with weather coverage.

Exactly the same here in Alabama. Ugh! And our ABC station, that guy will be on if it’s anywhere in the state. He pinpoints what street the tornado is coming down. It gets annoying after a while. I mean I want to know when they’re getting close, but I don’t need 2 hours of coverage.

CarlaD and Rolltide…………here in SoCal they treat even the slightest drizzle as “STORMWATCH”. We do have terrible storms on occasion, but they do this no matter if there is drizzle, a little wind or an actual storm. They love the drama. Of course we do have alot of drama on a daily basis, so I guess that is the mode they get into. Like right now, it is the AI deluge happenin. LOL

Regarding idols keeping in touch. In a radio interview I heard last wek, the dj asked Elliott if he kept in touch with anyone from last seasomnn. He said that he talks to Chris, Ace, and Mandisa about once a week and Bucky a couple of times a week. So apparetnly, busy or not, some of them are staying in touch.

Never meant to imply at all that Taylor is a bad person. I just thought it was cool to hear Elliott talk about how some of them were staying in touch. It’s funny because the people that Elliott mentioned were the same ones that Ace mentioned at the ice cream party. Elliott and Ace mentioned that they stayed in touch with each other and also mentioned Bucky, Mandissa and Chris.
Maybe Taylor just tends to be very intense and focused – especially now that he’s touring. Nothing wrong with that – everyone handles things differently.

I’m not familiar with any of those except for Blake’s and Chris’s. I mean I guess if Fantasia’s was her coronation song, I’ve obviously heard it on the show that year, but it apparently wasn’t memeorable to me.

I heard on the radio today that Taylor will be in Portland,ME in August and that tickets go on sale Friday. He will be at Merrill Auditorium which is a really nice place…great seating with fantastic acoustics. The Portland Symphony plays there. I didn’t notice it on his tour list so maybe it’s just been added.

Just watched DWTS. The ending jitterbug was superb! DWTS fun and happy, even with occasional sour judges. AI………..angst ridden and snippy. MO

Just read the comments on the subject of honey bees. Here on the Mason-Dixon line we haven’t had any more than a few honey bees for years. We were told by an agricultural agent that a mite was the culprit in the disappearing bees. One bee gets affected by these mites then it takes the problem back to the hive and before long the whole hive is wiped out.
