Michael Johns – Original Song – Fools Gold

Michael Johns is in Australia doing some press and events appearances. He stopped by radio station Australia Nova 969 to sing an original song, “Fools Gold” that will appear on his upcoming album. He says it’s not the single but “representative of what will be on the album.”

ETA: Michael co-wrote the song, It appeared previously on his 2007 Solo album. Peeps are linking some of Michael’s earlier work with The Rising and Film in comments. Good stuff!

Whoa, me likey! It’s blusey, soulful–perfect for Michael’s gruff vocals.

He tells Nova the album is “Van Morrison meets Joe Cocker meets INXS” and will be released in February, with a single in November.

    Wow. I didn’t even finish listening before I had to post comment! I already decided I would buy his album. And I’m still buying, even more so! Is that possible? Lovely, wonderful, spot on vocals. He could sing this with no accompaniment and still sound fantastic, I think. He’s really a better singer than what we saw on AI AND in his 2 numbers on tour. This is the IAWBIAR bluesy vibe fer shure, which was my favorite from him by far. I can picture myself listening to his album A LOT. And singing along – but only in my car…. Thank you, mj!

    Michael’s original music that he did before AI (including solo and stuff he did with Film and The Rising) IMO completely outclasses anything I heard on AI this past year. It’s truly exceptional as is Michael’s voice and “sense” of music. It really is rock-soul. For anyone who hasn’t heard Cradle Me, here it is on youtube:

    Swoon! I really like it. His voice is so rich when he is not straining it’s upper reaches. Mellow, robust, sultry. I like this alot.

    He never showed his true aptitude after hollywood week. This is what he should have been doing. He would not have won, but he would have stayed a bit longer… I think he needs to write songs for Taylor. Not joking.

    WOW! I totally agree. I didn’t like him on the show at all, but that was amazing! Hope it sells. John Mayer’s pretty bluesy, and he sells. Hopefully he’s paved the way for Michael.

    I enjoyed this song from Michael and look forward to the single and the album!

    As mandalay mentioned, Michael’s song also reminded me of Taylor. Hope there’ll be a sophomore album from Taylor in the spring that will showcase his songwriting/singing talents.

    I don’t think it’s a new song. He did Fool’s Gold in his solo album released in 2007, heard that song in YouTube before, but can’t check if it’s the same song because that song has been deleted from YouTube.

    That? Is the Michael Johns I love! I’ve listened to and downloaded every song of his pre-Idol that I could find. Q, Fool’s Gold and Fire and It’s Too Late are some of my favorites. I also love River of Life and Somebody to Love. Michael’s voice is simply amazing and I truly hope this time he succeeds. He’s had such bad luck with labels, I hope going the independent route works for him. I will be first in line to buy his album.

    This song sounds amazing, thank you so much for posting MJ! Michael’s voice is rediculously sultry…and this was in the early morning. If he can sound this good in that radio studio booth I can’t imagine how great his album will sound! He’ll be doing a lot of appearances in Australia this week so hopefully we’ll get a further preview of his album.

    I like this song from his solo album plus Little Bear and a couple others. I believe the 2 of them may be on his album but cleaned up a little from the solo one. I’m so anxious to hear his single!

    I like it–and it is kind of John Mayer-y. I wonder how it will be produced? Nice use of his falsetto, too. On AI, I didn’t think that his falsetto was very dependable–compared to Jason and Cook, who really used their falsettos quite a bit with confidence. Sounds good.
