I interviewed American Idol Season 7 alum, Michael Johns, and also got to meet his lovely wife, Stacey, after the Little Kids Rock Gala press conference. We chatted about music education for kids and what Michael has coming up in the future.

He also answered reporters questions alongside Kris Allen, Maureen Van Zandt, Steven Van Zandt and Max Weinberg.

Later, Michael took the stage to perform Steven Van Zandt’s “Salvation”, joining a slew of other musical artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Tom Morello who were on hand as Steven was presented with “The Little Big Man Award.”

I don’t follow Michael Johns’ career but i liked him on idol and I’m glad to hear he keeps busy. Nice performance.

I don’t follow Michael either but glad to know he is doing what he likes to do.  Very nice performance.  The Van Zandt’s seem like very nice people.  Maureen is a sweetheart and very giving.   Both Michael and Kris are blessed to have them in their corners.

Also don’t follow Michael but enjoyed him on AI his season. I do occasionally hear of him playing clubs around LA.

It was interesting to hear his take on being indy. I couldn’t understand what he was saying about sometime releasing songs with a label (?) for a 50/50 split. Is that 19R or some other entity?

Glad that he is doing well and is happy.

Maureen is a sweetheart and very giving.

She is nice, but her bias regarding AI are the rocker boys.

Aw, I’ll always have a soft spot for Michael Johns, he was my fave for season 7. Thanks for posting MJ. BTW, Salvation was amazing!

Awe what a cutie!!!! Great job on the song. And great interview MJ. I also don’t follow Michael John’s career either, but he really seems like a great guy, and he loves what he does.

Always loved Michael, and personally thought he should’ve at least made the Top 3 S7! His elimination is still the most infuriating for me. This performance, of course, reaffirms why I loved the guy in the first place. Good job Mike!

Unlikely 19R but any other entity willing to act as a middleman & distribute his cd.

  • milwlovesadam

Wow, this performance just seals how wrong his elimination was on his season. He’s one of my all-time Idol faves, and I’m so glad to see him doing well. This performance may get him more well deserved recognition.

Thank you so much MJ for the videos & interview. I have followed Michael’s career closely & I can vouch for him being very busy lately .[Once asked to perform at an event he seems to go down so well that he is constantly booked again ]

It would be great if he is able to focus now on his new music so he can release it next year sometime. The EP he released this year was available on i-Tunes here in Australia  which was great.[unlike his 1st album after Idol where only his single was released here] He was able to do that through the contacts he has made .

BTW it is Michael’s birthday today -so 3 cheers to him.

    Great performance by Michael Johns.
I think that his elimination was the only time I gasped, because it was so absolutely not expected. And that week was the week after the Dolly Parton song I think, which was awesome. Oh well, nice that he is still performing.
