I did not watch AI when Melinda was on, so I had no preconceived notions about her, but watched this video simply because of MJ’s “blow the roof off the joint” comment. Melinda did not disappoint. Wow!

She can communicate a song like nobody else!

She’s f*cking fantastic. Not everybody who appears on Idol (regardless of how talented) is going to become a pop star, but I do believe the genuinely gifted will get their acclaim in due time.

Between this and the Betty Buckley accolades for Diana DeGarmo, I’d say it’s been a *very* good week for former Idol “non-winners.”

Melinda was my favorite to WIN Idol, Season 6 ~ and Simon’s too! She is one FANTASTIC singer and the SWEETEST young lady EVER! She is so excited to be singing with the Boston Pops too! I do hope they have her back!

This has got to be reason #19387563929 why I absolutely adore Melinda Doolittle. Like BootStar said, “not everybody who appears on Idol is going to become a pop star, but I do believe the genuinely gifted will get their acclaim in due time.” Melinda is certainly gifted, and I hope she has a long career full of acclaim.

I wonder if there was a more legitimate recording of this concert?

I’ll say it again: one of the most talented, soulful singers EVER to come out of American Idol — almost too good for Idol! (don’t hit me)

She & LaKisha set a standard for the women that has not been equalled since, IMO, just in terms of sheer vocal power and soulfulness. Kiki seems to have dropped out to be a fulltime mom (she has two kids, one more on the way), but I fervently hope Mindy Doo will continue to record, get great gigs and be recognized for ther fantastic talent she is. for those who don’t know her well, just a couple clips:

There is a weekly Pops show on PBS, so yes, this probably will eventually turn up on TV.

Melinda and Bo Bice taped an appearance on Praise the Lord yesterday, and they each sang a couple of songs. The show airs on TBN Friday night.

Love Melinda and always happy to see her getting opportunities such as this. I always hoped somebody like Tina Turner would give her the opportunity to open for them. Wish they (Simon) would have promoted her post Idol. Also think she would do well on Broadway and PBS. Her album didn’t come out until she was off Idol two years which may have hurt sales and many fans after waiting two years were a little disappointed that she did covers.(I bought it anyway) In any case she always seems happy.

Amazing. Melinda needs to come to Broadway. I want to hear her sing on the Tonys.

Oh Mindy Doo! This woman can sing. Really, really sing! Makes me feel like I should get my fan out to cool off and dab my forehead with a hanky, while shouting the occasional amen and praise Jesus (I grew up in exactly that kind of church, btw). Does anyone else wish she’d sung longer, and that she’d been able to go off on some crazy good call-and-answers with the choir?

I have to say she looks cute with the fro now that she’s ditched the wigs. Good for you, Melinda!

Melinda has a CD out called “Come Back to Me,” but it’s not a gospel CD. It’s more retro soul. I like the music, but it’s definitely not Pop style.

Melinda was my first favorite IDOL since I started watching in S6. I was quite devastated (as was Simon) when she went out Top 3. Now, after watching 4 seasons and following the IDOLs a little more closely, I understand why she didn’t win.

Her voice is the most technically amazing I’ve ever heard, but I don’t think she was really interested in going the Pop route, which is what IDOL viewers tend to prefer.

What did (or didn’t) she do to her hair? Don’t like the look, even though she’s singing a gospel song.

while i love jordin sparks to death (vocal tone to die for + very likeable), melinda is my favorite idol ever! i had the same reaction as collette above – too good for idol. i hope we keep getting clips of her here, and can’t wait to catch her on PBS.

Melinda sounds wonderful, and it sounds like she got a very warm reception too. Yeah, she was never going to win AI that season (for lots of reasons that had nothing to do with her singing ability), but she really was one of the best vocalists AI has ever seen.

Such a great voice. She would sound great on Broadway.

Melinda sang four songs total. There is no video for the last song she sang with the choir that REALLY brought the house down but you can listen to the audio of “I Won’t Let Go” on the Multimedia board of the melindasbackups website. It’s freakin’ fantastic!

Love this performance, love her. She is “old school” in the best possible way. The most pissed I’ve ever been at Idol was the day she got voted off. I agree with those who think she has the best voice of any Idol ever. I really can’t think of anyone her age or younger that is comparable.

Melinda kick’s butt! One of the very best of Idol. It’s a damn shame someone with such a voice is ignored by the mainstream. The music buying youth of today don’t know what singing is. I’m looking at you Bieber, Kesha and most of the “guests” on Idol results this year.
