According to psychology, Simon has made a mistake.  The sub-conscious mind hears positives, like “fail”.  It does not hear negatives, like “don’t”.

In other words, it hears “don’t fail” as “fail”.  It will be interesting to see how it works out here.  Case in point, Archie’s Down album did just that…it went down.

I really hope this goes well for her.

This might surprise some of you who know how much I absolutely loathe this show, but watching the XFACTOR post game I have been impressed with the quality of the songs and the management of the contestants. I think it is just a matter of time before they launch a real career for someone.

I will never be a fan of the show but I do want it to do well, so that there can be a viable option out there for struggling arists who are trying to break in. Idol just feels stuck in a boring rut right now, though maybe they can break the cycle as well. Anyway good luck Melanie.

A complete makeover???  I hope that doesn’t mean an auto-tuned album.  Or that the 5 million she won was spent on the makeover.  Seems like hearing from her now feels like old news….*ho hum*.

It will be interesting to see how she does. I’m wondering if having more time to work on her album will work to her benefit, and if the promotion is good, that this might be better for long term success.

ETA: I know the UK X Factor finalists take longer for their albums, and do not release them until at least a year later in some cases, and they have had some success, even in the US. Maybe more time for artist development helps.

If your song is set to come out in 4 days and the reason anybody knows is because you posted on twitter……

    That is very sad :(

Given what she did on XFUS, I’m expecting a boring diva ballad. Hopefully my expectations will turn out to be wrong.

Since it has been mainly L.A. who’s been working with her post X-Factor, that gives me a bit of hope that it won’t be a boring ballad.  I blame Simon for keeping her stuck in that “boring diva ballad” rut during the competition.  IMO Melanie won X Factor in spite of Simon’s crummy mentoring (I didn’t think he was that good of a mentor to Drew or Rachel either).

I think they were always planning to time the rollout of her first “real” single to coincide with the season two X Factor debut.  I hope it does well for her.  Looking forward to seeing and hearing from Melanie again.

There should be a tv commercial saying the :

WINNER OF X FACTOR USA IS ABOUT TO CHANGE THE WORLD WITH HER NEW SONG!!!

Maybe that is coming the day after its out?

are trying to break in. Idol just feels stuck in a boring rut right now

Even over the last few seasons idol has helped struggling artists break in. Look at Scotty-he has won numerous awards, platinum album, 3 top 40 country singles(2 that have gone gold), opening for a country superstar, and even selling out his own concerts. I wouldn’t call that being stuck in a boring rut.

I feel like Idol has excelled at helping new artists have a great first year selling and touring to mostly Idol-generated fans, after which they promptly fall off the face of the earth. Jury is still out on Scotty. My fingers are crossed for him, but considering what has happened from season 6 on, I have finally become very jaded.

At least the XFACTOR contestants have been solidly marketed within thier niches and have released actual radio friendly songs. Thier management made appropriate choices as well IMO. Idol alumni post games have been very spotty in that regard, though I do think handling of the season 10 alums was a slight improvement.

I think Simon has the clout to get it played. One Direction were being played every hour on our local radio and the DJ’s were wondering “Who are these guys?” He definitely greased the right palms.

I think its too soon to say when none of the X Factor US contestants have made a dent on the radio yet. As far as the UK version, Leona Lewis was really the only worldwide success story until One Direction came along.

If by clout you mean money, than yes…

“Don’t Fail Me Now” …Although the title isn’t the main issue in a song, this specific one doesn’t send good vibes for someone who people is doubting that can be marketable and successful.

Haley and the Idols posted on twitter when their songs would be out.  Nothing different. I wouldn’t have know if I weren’t a Haley fan and an MJ reader.

Didnt PP just get a gold record for his winners single? Didnt Scotty also do well with his single? If they can find a good song, it can be a hit…and could let the winners fans have a way to support their contestant – more than just through text messages. Im assuming young people especially are huge buyers of itunes pop songs

I’m sorry, but I would rather not have a brand new artist saddled with a sappy sentimential song right at the beginning of their career.

I know that in the last two seasons AI is trying to move from “mountains and rainbows” type of songs for winners, but the songs are still sappy and appropriate for occassion.  Sappines kinda works in country, but less so in other genres. So far I’m not impressed with what they came up with for Scotty, Lauren, Phillip and Jessica. Especially Jessica. Phillip’s definitely got a better song than her and it’s not fair – give both finalists songs of comparable quality or don’t give them original songs for finale. It also doesn’t help that these songs are picked and recorded in the last few days before the finale.

I think it’s better to avoid this mess. I admit I would love to have a studio recording of “Listen”, but I understand why X Factor just didn’t bother with the winner’s single.

Having a winners single at least gives them something to promote right after the show. So far, Phillip’s song is doing really well and has been getting played on the Olympics. None of that would have been possible if he didn’t have a winners single. I think having a winners single that does well at least keeps them somewhat in the spotlight.

So far I’m not impressed with what they came up with for Scotty, Lauren, Phillip and Jessica.

Better than that generic song from Cher Lloyd.

Whay do they need to promote anything right after the show? After the show they need to get in the studio, not promote sappy songs that might not even represent their style well.

Good original songs are usually not written, recorded and finished in just three days.

For example, One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” is a pop gem and big international hit. Perfect single to launch a career.

If they had won their season of X Factor, their debut single would be a cover of “Forever Young”. Recording leaked and well … I think the boys are today happy they didn’t have to release that.

Little Mix had to release a poor cover of “Cannonball”. It debuted at #1, but doesn’t really represent them.
